      @@tnix80Fine. Wenger had nothing to do with the plan to move to the new stadium. Zero. That is what I objecting to in the original comment - to suggest it was Wenger's vision is to put it mildly, absolute fertiliser.
      He had input into things such as home dressing room layout and certain aspects of the new training ground at Colney but the buck stops there.
      Kevin Withcer's excellent book "The Making Of A Modern Superclub" documents the move extremely well should anyone wish to properly educate themselves on the subject.

      Definitely. The high press only works when players press together. Odegaard leads this press with his relentless running and tenacity. He works so hard for the team. I remember seeing him still press after 90mins and 4-1 up against Newcastle. People who don't appreciate his game use the lazy analogy of how he never turns up in big games. Their definition of presence is only through goals and assists, but they don't see the work ethic he delivers every game. The guy works for the team first which is why he's a respected leader and why Arteta favours him. I love this team!

    Porto closely studied our setplays. They knew about Ben White's job to obstruct the keeper. I think Jover will mix it up, but I believe we're going to score at least 2 goals from open play. The players have learnt from last season's failures on how to deal with adversity and challenges that come with negative results. They turned up against Liverpool knowing we needed to win to stay in the title race and came out strong against Newcastle after the media blasted the team for being naive in Europe. Arteta hit the nail on the head when he made a point about Martinelli's incomplete pass to Saka in the dying seconds of the first game. He said the narrative would have been different if the ball reached Saka and he scored a goal on the break. That's just "part of football" as the manager also stated. So many people were quick to create and invent all sorts of reasons why we lost the game, but what it really came down to was a simple pass that didn't reach its target. Yes we appeared nervous initially, but this team is still young and developing. I'm confident that back at the Emirates in the 2nd tie, the team's mentality, unity and resilience will prevail.

      Today his best mate Jover has told him "The players have learnt from last season's failures on how to deal with adversity and challenges that come with negative results" as shown by Arsenal being worse off now than they were last season - Genius!
      But getting schooled by Porto? Plastic's not having that as "that's just part of football" because according to him this team just like the kids he speaks to online everyday are young and developing.

      Can we stop this unbearable condescending attitude when talking about the Porto game?
      Porto had us figured out, simple as that, their mid-block was very effective, yes they were diving at times, and yes the referee was a pain but we have to adapt to UCL officiating (if you think this is bad wait until we meet Inter or Madrid). We created essentially nothing for 90min apart from corners (Porto is the best team at defending corners in Europe so make that what you will), reinterpreting an incredibly difficult pass at the 90th min+ isn't a great argument to the contrary, especially when Porto comfortably doubled our xG (1.21 vs 0.44). If the plan was to get a draw, we failed, not because we actually lost but because we deserved to lose.
      Porto is the 1st team this season to successfully nullify our attack, we have lost 6 games in all comps before Porto each time I never felt like we'd been nullified offensively. Let's stop analysing that game through the lens of our recent run of form in the Prem, and admit that we were beaten in Porto.

    • @JackBowyer-rn1py
      @JackBowyer-rn1py 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @o3br Can we stop this unbearable condescending attitude when talking about the Porto game and worthless xG (1.21 vs 0.44) excuses for why we got absolutely schooled?
      Arteta's spent 700m quid and 4 years putting a side together that would then have zero efforts on target against a side who had a CB older than he is
      So please let's stop analysing that game and now all get behind the team for tonights huge FA Cup 5th round tie and hopefully go onto win it this season.
      COYG ❤

      One pass that didn't happen doesn't explain 0 shots on target and 0.1 open goal xg. Arteta didn't respond. We nearly got away with it but we deserved to lose that game. Hopefully we overcome Porto and it is a nothing game and result but hopefully lessons not forgotten

    • @slyarsenal
      @slyarsenal 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @virupakshawalla5734 well I hope the following explains it. Porto have only conceded 16 goals in 22 leafue games. They had a 10 game winning streak at home before they played us. They're a solid defensive team. They were up for it with the crowd behind them. Ffs, we can't win every game. No one can. Come back to me after we sort Porto out and then talk

    If there was a blueprint on how to eradicate the stale stagnant culture of a club. Bringing back the basics of good coaching and hunger and a team that plays for each other and the coach while improving individual players, then Arteta has made it. And yet, he is still learning as a young manager. He hasn't even reached his peak. I have no doubt Man City will try to sell their soul to have him replace Pep once he steps down. He has absolutely reinvented Arsenal. The only thing this young team is missing is the silverware, which Im confident will come. The team is only getting better and can dominate the league over the next decade.

      @bighamster2 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think it is mostly team specific. There was a game a few months ago where we *only* did short corners, so I think that was likely due to identifying a specific weakness there. But the fact that our team is especially tall ATM with 4 CBs, Havertz and Rice means that a blunter approach can often just smash the door down.

    • @kennethm.4998
      @kennethm.4998 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @bighamster2 Thought so too. I believe the game you're talking about in Everton away at Goodison Park earlier this season. Not once did we swing it into the box.
      I also wonder if the personnel on the pitch affects this. If Zini plays instead of Kiwior we have one less big guy in the box and maybe we go shorter for some of them with Zini at the edge of the box as he normally is.

      He's got much better at doing it without it being given as a foul, too. If you touch the keeper with your arms it will usually be given, and now just gets his whole body in the way and makes sure he's "looking at the ball" (which I think is key).

Saliba normally(this season) is very cautious &patient on the ball. That's the one change which surprised me,we were so eager to snatch the ball,press Newcastle that everyone probably played 10-15 metres higher than their actual average position

    I never thought personally that the patterns of play were an issue, rather the fact that the distances between players were indeed too big in the first half of the season or even in Porto game.

    Distances between your team mates during possession is crucial to beating the press. It requires players to have a touch and go mindset....touch the ball, pass it AND make yourself available in a good position to receive the ball....and we go again.

    I think it's time we recognize that maybe Arteta's greatest skill, and perhaps his weakness is his ability to recognize the skills of the people he brings to the project. I mean, set piece coach? And of course the players.
    But perhaps in recognizing what could be improved has also resulted in him stepping on toes and hurting egos. Perhaps he could be less single minded in that, but he is uncompromising. He expects Arsenal to be at the top, and anyone who is distracted from that goal is perceived as a weak link.
    Perhaps once Arteta has dragged us back to the summit, he will sit down and see the bodies of those we lost along the way and be more forgiving moving forward.

      If we lose people a long the way its probably for a good reason. Of course you forgive mistakes and errors, everyone is human. But if you're not up to the task... then it's an unforgiving business, if you want to be at the pinnacle 🤷‍♂

    Basic knowledge in systems thinking will help in our understanding of whats happening.
    A system is a group of interconnected elements working together to achieve a common goal. Each component within a system has a designated function or role, and each role is essential for the system to function effectively. This concept emphasizes the importance of organization and synergy within a system, where every piece fits into its designated place, and every place accommodates its corresponding piece to ensure smooth operation and optimal performance.

    We are freaking good. Something that could be improved is our sharpness in front of both goals. Usually we concede from individual errors and miss belters down to lack of precision. However that is usually how things fail in a tactically solved meta and as such this is not an easy thing to do. I´d much rather have 2-3 mistakes more pr. game while retaining the way we play now than removing all individual mistakes and losing our pressure play, energy off the ball, passion, well as you say basically everything else.

    Arteta just isn't a normal manager. He's still young and only got a handle hand full of seasons behind him as a manager compared to several others.
    Yet his ability to transform arsenal from a failing team that had to fight tooth and nail to qualify for champions league football, to a team that is challenging for the league that has a team that just won the treble, and despite our loss against Porto, overall we've dominated our games in the champions league.

    In the past you’ve talked about other teams’ “inevitable” players like Salah tearing up any defense or KDB finding a ball to Haaland.
    Our version of that is our attacking movements and rotations. We just keep plugging and keep doing the right things with variations. The rotations between Saka/White/Ødegaard, everyone is either receiving the ball or moving into space. No one wastes time on the ball. If an attack isn’t on, recycle and move to a new position. If we keep doing the right attacking movements, we’ll get a chance

    I agree with you TDK, we're almost there. By there I mean winning the league of course. I don't think we need to go crazy in the summer, just shift 3-4 players that don't fit our current system, and bring in some fresh profiles that would add even more to our depth. Imagine if we could swap players like Eddie (sorry), Ramsdale (Sorry), Reece (sorry), etc and bring in some real talent. Then our squad would be ready. Just need that extra 5% of quality within our ranks and we can shoot for the stars.
