      @@Malm-us2utwell said, Ødegaard and Saka combine on that right wing with overlaps from Ben White. Martinelli has almost no support as Zinchenko inverts when he is played and doesn’t have a partner in midfield helping him down that lane. After Rice has been moved to a left 8 instead of a 6, that wing sees a lot more day but Martinelli needs an overlapping runner in JT or else he’ll get doubled up on as more of a touch line winger rather than a trossard which comes infield more.

      @@Malm-us2ut Arsenal's problem is a lack of a pure finishing striker. Havertz up top does not provide a big enough goal threat. Jesus is also more of a playmaker than a finisher. I want Arteta to experiment with Trossard centrally dropping into midfield and Martinelli on the left wing. Also, the conversion of Declan Rice to a 6 changed their midfield dynamics.

    "Most isolated winger in Europe". That about sums up what I see of Martinelli. I therefore think he is so hard to assess, because he is so incredibly isolated for large parts of the game. What I will add, is that I like how he works really hard in defense, but so does Trossard. Worth noting that Saka often gets into those positions of the box because of White's many overlapping runs, which happens far less often on the left for Martinelli. While Martinelli can feel easier to control by the opposition, he also does not have Odegaard and White circling around him, exchanging passes and positions, so again I think it is difficult to asses. What Suarez and Salah has is that raw explosiveness, that thrives on and creates chaos. I am not seeing quite that with Martinelli either, but then again it is not truly required in Artetas system.

    Mikel wants a wide playmaker with pace... not a pacey winger that can finish. I think the future for martinelli is to move inside and become a striker, and Arsenal should go big on bringing in a player that can play the Saka role on the left. Musiala/Leao/Khvicha would be the sweet spot.

      @@LilJones-mj4ys this may come as a shock... but no I am not Mikel. The fun of fandom is getting to extrapolate based on context - no need to jump down throats. Look at how Mikel favors Trossard more recently. He's more collaborative, switched on in all phases and inclined to stay in his lane rather than get his. I love martinelli but he dominated for us last year in the positions that we have now have occupied by another player. It's made him very limited and one-dimensional. Like Alex, I believe in the player, but if we have to be ruthless then there is a very clear cog in the front line that's not working. Not to say it can't, but profiles have to be different.

      It's not so much Havertz as it is the 8's role in the team. Rice/Trossard/ESR all play the role the same way. It's a system not platforming him. There's less interchange than there was last year which means Martinelli can't cut inside as freely. It's made him very one-dimensional. He either gets in behind his man or passes back to the middle.

    9:14 Let's not forget that Saka has Benny Blanco on his side who overlaps into the number 7 position, which allows Saka to drop deeper into the box. Plus, the fact that we invert from the left, we quite often end up with the ball crossing over to the right of the pitch, leaving Martinelli isolated very wide at number 11. Tierney would have been the player that would have helped GM to drop into the box. But obviously, we don't play with two wide full backs.

      we dont need 2 fullbacks in order for martinelli to get the ball.. we need a player like Timber who is a playmaker and who can defend. Martinelli stopped receiving the ball because he lost 2 playmakers that were operating on his side last season, Xhaka and zinchenko

    Thank you for bringing up this Martinelli issue. I have been commenting on the way Arsenal plays by intentionally isolating him
    The LW has bcm a haunted ground so much so that even when Trossard plays they thought he was Martinelli and they isolate him too. But the problem may be when Arteta started limiting Martinelli to 70mins of game while Saka, Ordegaard, whether injured, 50% fit plays full game and plays every game. Martinelli became the sacrificial lamb for Trossard! I love Trossard right from 2021/22 or so when he scored against Arsenal at the Emirates. In fact I was wishing he was Arsenal player bcos of his pressing and aggression. Why can't Martinelli play with Trossard? Bcos Saka will be affected! Was Martinelli suffering from a lapse in his contract? Arteta please don't kill this budding talent! God wil not forgive you! If you are tired of him please sale him to a club that can bring out the gem in him.
    Why are his teammates pretend to like him yet hate him on the field. Once they stop giving him ball that's a signal to Arteta to substitute him and surely that's what he does.

    I think there is one additional reason (it's small but not insignificant) for his drop-off that you didn't menton: our right-sided players are just better than they were last season. They were amazing already but they are still better. White for example was good last season but this season he is just monumental on the ball, not only on the overlap but also in the half space. Odegaard as well, he is an absolute monster now (he wasn't as good last season i think). Because we have such brilliant players on the right it's only natural that we focus play on the right more.

    Is Martinelli sufficiently intelligent to play the role that Mikel requires of him in this team? That, for me, is his biggest problem. He has the pace, the effort, the desire, and the courage to keep showing up. Even when his confidence is low, he don’t ever really quit. But I’ve never thought him to be a high IQ footballer; he’s more of a street baller with blinding pace who is more interested in open spaces than open teammates. But that’s just me, though

    The point you made with the lack of switches is in no small part due to Partey's absence... The chaos that Martinelli loves is easily find in sudden breakaways... Which a distributor like Partey would have helped massively with... Also I don't think comparing him to Saka is realistic... Not just because of Sakas quality... But because of the partnerships you just mentioned... Martinelli doesn't have that much of a problem taking shots on his weaker foot... He scored almost half his goals last season with it... The system really is just closing him out right now... Also I'd also like us to consider the number of times he used to put crosses in the box that no one's even bothered to attack... That also reduces his productivity as he is less likely to take that option even when the space opens up... I honestly think that in Martinellis case... The issue is more the teacher than the student... I believe with a bit more stability and someone else willing to make the runs outside from time to time... This issue wouldn't even come up...

    I believe the main issue is transition speed! last year our counter attack was quicker with Xhaka and Partey! but this season we suffered a lot from Partey's absence and his progressive passes! I think Declan can do Xhaka's role really well and suites him the most beside Partey! but when Arteta plays Havertz in midfield and Rice as number 6 something goes wrong and we don't look as sharp as we used to be! even with Jorginho we are good but not as good as Partey playing due to physicality! I just want to see us playing Martinelli - Havertz - Saka and Odegaard - Rice and Partey behind them we will flourish!

    I wrote a comment about confidence and how he will regain it, but a huge factor is the lack of playing happening on the left side. Zinchenko has honestly been pretty lackluster this season, but even when he is on his game, he wants to play in the middle more than with Martinelli. Rice, Havertz, Jorginho, same with them, they want to play the middle, and this is OK! I think having different playing styles on the left compared to the right is a good thing, can be very surprizing. The problem is, nobody is really complementing or amplifying Martinelly like they do on the right. Martinelli is a really fast and creative guy, who can carry the ball. I think we only need one new player to help him. Either, it should be a left back with good pace that can keep up and combine with Martinelli, like say Davies or Grimaldo as fun examples (this would also solve the "Zin cant keep pace with Salah/Doku" situation). He could also be complemented by an Ödegård style of play with precise through balls that he can make a run for, tearing the enemy defence. Finally, Arteta can tell Jesus to keep dropping left as he likes, and maybe he and Martinelli could co-ordinate a bit more than they have done, complementing eath other with Jesus' ball retention and Martinellis pace?

    Do you think Arsenal XI next year could look like this playstyle & player wise
    Martinelli (Wide playmaker w/ high defensive work rates
    Havertz (links up and gets in behind)
    Saka (Saka)
    New player/Rice (as the B2B left 8, intercept god)
    New player/Partey/Rice (Supports the defence & calm on the ball)
    Odegaard (deep playmaking captain)
    Aura Defence + Goalkeeper
    Timber - Gabriel - Saliba - White
    Raya
    Havertz should always stay at CF, maybe left 8 against low blocks teams even then I want him up front
    Rice against big clubs should be the 8, and 6 against counter team & low block sides

    Martinelli & Saka need some strong competition in order to up their game as for the second season in a row they fade towards the end. Arsenal clearly need to bring in either Eze or Olise from Palace.

  • @S14N9LS
    @S14N9LS 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    He's got like 8 goals and 6 assists (I think, could be wrong. All comps.) and that's while being completely isolated and sharing game time with Trossard and missing a few games injured. He's not doing what he did last season and certainly not living up to his potential but he's not really been in a position to, either. I think he'll be fine. If we can find a way to keep Rice pushing up more and get a LB that can work with him; maybe bring in another midfielder in the offseason to spread the ball around on the left... He'll find his best form again. He's too determined and works too hard to stagnate for too long.

  • @jay_archie
    @jay_archie 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    What makes feel it’s a martinelli problem more than a system issue is when Trossard plays he isn’t left out wide he receives the ball a lot more and cut in early enough to take a shot or cross

  • @sigfigronath
    @sigfigronath 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    I agree, it both the player and system issue. He doesnt have a fullback or creative player to help him. But he also doesnt do enough.

    • @nomnsookeke4882
      @nomnsookeke4882 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Because they’re different types of players. Trossard is a playmaker and ball retention specialist, who excels at press resistance and control in tight spaces. Martinelli is a sprinter who, for better or worse, has a selfish gene and is more focused on finding spaces/opportunities to shoot

  • @eviltechnology
    @eviltechnology 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    it is pretty simple. we don't play at left at all, and we don't do fast transitions this season. Trossard scored more than half of his goals from the middle or from the right.

    I think I’d be genuinely upset if we sold Gabi, as said in the video the guy is only 22. He seems like he loves playing for Arsenal, he’s happy to work hard out of possession, and he’s got bags of talent, that’s exactly the sort of player I want in the squad

  • @JJforGuvnor
    @JJforGuvnor 17 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Yeah i’ve been saying, its no coincidence his influence on the team has dropped off directly after selling Xhaka and swapping Kiwior for CB’s more often. But his individual brilliance kinda hasn’t: winner against City & Liverpool
    I reckon he’ll pop right back up if we buy the targets we’re crying for - on the left.

  • @oikhena
    @oikhena 20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

    I think we expect too much productivity from our players sometimes. Literally not every attacking player can contribute 20 G+A, and that is ok. Look at this year's Liverpool squad; I don't hear a lot of questions around their selection of forwards (bar Darwin's wayward finishing, and Salah being out of form last few matches). But Luis Diaz literally has 8G + 4A in 33 appearances so he has essentially the same productivity as Martinelli.
    Not everyone can increase their productivity every year especially as the focus in attack and how we attack changes, then naturally goal scoring patterns will also change.

    Our wingers were the stand-out performers last season - and with Arteta's new structure they have both suffered, Martinelli and Saka. Again it is Arteta's overthinking and tinkering. Odegaard smothering Saka on the left, and Havertz making Martinelli redundant, with no interplay and cohesion. Sure Arteta is a great tactician, but he's letting our best and most 'dangerous' talents down.

  • @e.h_8
    @e.h_8 20 วันที่ผ่านมา

    He’s still a special player, he’s improved season after season since he’s joined, of course with the exception of this season. He just doesn’t have the consistent help on the left after Xhaka’s departure. I’m sure next season will be when the team is finally at a complete balance all around the pitch and the beginning of Arteta’s peak arsenal reign.

    What do people think about ESR being trained as a CF?
    He has played as rotation for Martinelli and scored a few from the left. He knows the number 10 role and could drop into a box CM (Rice, Thomas, ESR, MO8). Can score, provides good linkup, not short, can swap roles with others for short periods as he knows those roles already....
    This isn't to suggest we don't need to sign a CF. Curiosity. (^.^)
