Blood Will Tell is the Best Game You Can't Afford to Play | Review The PS2

- Once an obscure title, now a cult classic, it's Blood Will Tell! I was planning on reviewing Sakura Wars after the last video, but when I found out about the new Dororo anime, I had to rush to make this and get it out as soon as possible.
Blood Will Tell is a hack and slash action adventure game based on Dororo, a 60s manga written by Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Astro Boy. It's great fun at a great cost, with a couple downsides. Such as the music. The music in this video was taken from Way of the Samurai 2 and Genji: Dawn of the Samurai, because Blood Will Tell has really bad music, which I didn't touch on in the video. Oops.

The most I've spent on a used game was probably in a trade deal, spending around $90 for a Game Boy game I needed for my collection. Otherwise, $60 for a "used" copy of Xenoblade Chronicles (one of the reprint variety) is probably the most.

I payed $90 for a complete copy of gogo hyper grind. That’s the most as far as an individual used game goes

I'm playing to the game the first time myself and I have to say, I did not have the issue with the knife part at all. That room is the first time you ever pick up those knives and if you look at the inventory description, It explains that it can be used as a foothold on certain walls
This game broke me. lol Some of the fiends were just too hard. But what REALLY did me in was hearing “Dororo punch!! Dororo kick!!” Over. And over. And over. *Eternally.*
I burnt it to a dvd and can play it on the ps2.
I don't know what made me think about this game today. Watching this just brought back so many memories. I broke my controller trying to kill the last damn monster at the end lol.
I want to buy it, the only thing I want to know is; does the game have level select? For example when you completed the game. So I'm not forced to replay the puzzle segments a second time.
Great review! I will have to keep my eyes out for this one at pawn shops and Goodwill, to see if I can pick it up on the cheap. Looks like a neat game, and I like the concept, so it probably would be fun to play through.

I saw one at my pre-owned shop. It was 125 euro. Cost more then PS2
You can get a repro for cheap. I got mine for $20. It even came with an authentic looking case even though the print on the disc looks a bit dusty. You will need a modded PS2 to play repros. I use a soft mod method using a device that resembles a memory card so there is less risk with bricking my console.
Great review man, the game element and mechanics are great. If they refine it and removed the issues or tedious parts then it would be a great game

This is one of the best if not THE best games made for ps2 and that is one hell of a statement given the amount of other games that are top tier. It was way ahead of its time and deserves a remake

Loved this game so much I just had to track down all of the fiends. Some of them are very weird but it's worth tracking them all down.

I was a big ps2 nut back then I know nearly all of them but this game surprised the hell out of me it’s the one ps2 game I never heard of and would have wanted how did I not notice this why was nobody on g4 talking about it how did I miss this one? I don’t understand
I mean, its a game based on a 45 year old abandoned franchise that never got a real ending to it. Throwing a lot of marketing dollars at it wouldn't have been smart. But it's still a shame

Just enulate it, obscure stuff like this is NEVER getting a remaster. And even though the anime was incredible, it's likely to be the last piece of Dororo we see. At least in this century.
I actually saw reviews of this game on TV and wanted to get it. For around a decade I could not remember what the name of this game was. All I needed was to Google search the plot and I found it >_
You complain about having no hints you're supposed to use the kunai to climb up the walls, but the item description flat out tells you that's what it's for, and it does come up again afterward at the last level of the game, and in Dororo mode. Otherwise, the review was great and I agree with most of the other issues you brought up, especially that terrible camera in platforming segments.
But you wouldnt think to use a weapon as a platforming item, and you dont actually have to use it at the end. Thats optional.
or you could just emulate its rom and play it easily. thanks for the review!

You can use repros if you want to use actual hardware.

"This game does something that I refer to as, bad game design". Intentionally funny or not, that line had me laughing. The most I've spent on a used game... yeesh, I'm embarrassed to say. I don't like going over $60 bucks I have done that once for a complete in box NES game from my childhood. $100 for Ninja Turtles 2 the Arcade Game.

You kind of spoiled a bit there by referring to Dororo as a girl. That was supposed to be a reveal later on in the manga, though admittedly it's not really that dramatic a reveal.
The reveal changes nothing in the story, so I was fine with saying it

Dororo in this version is to overpower to be honest, Machine gun arm, knee cannon. his anime counterpart cant compare to this.
In the manga though. Hyakkimaru's nose (i think that is the part) is actually a man made bomb lol

"Dororo" lacks brand recognition in the West, so they gave it a different name and subtitled it "Osamu Tezuka's Dororo"

I never get it what people see in this game. It was not a success when came out and that's because that is not much to it. Is not bad by any means but is mediocre that for sure
It likely wasn't a success when it came out because dororo wasn't a well known property in the west, hence why it's called blood will tell and not just dororo
I think I've played more lesser known, not perfect games than the top rated ones. A game doesn't have to be perfect for me to enjoy it. For example for some reason I played through Getaway even though it was frustrating at times. On the other hand I've only played an hour or so of grand theft auto. I prefer Maximo and Sly over Ratchet and Jak. I enjoyed Haven Call of the King and completed that. Shinobi and Nightshade are simple games but are fun games.
Just finished streaming this game and I was blown again from how fun it was! I wasn't a fan of the final chapter though. That boss was absolute BS and making Dororo become a sexy female character too. It was pretty...eww. Though it didn't spoil the rest of the game! I've been taking my time to spread word of this game everywhere!

I sold my copy for $135 on ebay in 2018 and now it's twice as much! (I remember back when I was collecting in the PS2 era seeing another copy of it at gamestop for like $18 or less and was thinking to myself I should buy a 2nd copy because it's probably going to be worth money.) At it's current price it's only for the collectors out there. And the PS2 is one of the best systems to collect games for.
TH-cam collectors who can afford going crazy once in a while. The rest of us get a ROM and install it on a PS2 hard drive or we use PCSX2 emulation. This one along with Rule of Rose have absolutely disgusting prices but thankfully we have alternatives.
That lisp annoys me more than it should.

6:05 That's not poor game design, that's poor game playing. The Kunai clearly state in the menu (as you yourself showed) "Can be used as a FOOTHOLD on some indoor walls." Did you even read the menu? I checked the menu and knew exactly what to do. The ironic thing is, there are barrels in the corner of that room that you can use to get to the higher platforms anyway, so your criticism is totally useless.
The game has poor, clunky platforming, yes. But your gripe is just noob impatience.
