My god! Move over Alco PA's, say hello to the new honorary steam engines of the world! Do engines in Russia ever receive any maintenance? Ive never seen a cloud of diesel smoke so big that it envelops a whole town like that! As much as i like clag, i would NOT like to be on the other side of the tracks when those beasts past. Great video, the lighting really highlights the massive smoke show.
What the Bloody Heck are they burning in this thing, ground up tires!!!!???? This thing makes a Deltic look clean enough to pass a 2012 Emissions Test!!!! :)

On TE3 it was practically pure copy (only some measures changed to metric),with 10 cylinders and 2000hp,but then they developed 3000hp diesel for TE10. Originally,they packed 3000hp into 12 cylinders (by introduction of turbochargers),and first test examples of TE10 loco had such diesel.Then somebody decided that it would be OK to pack 3000hp into 10 cylinders with only minor changes to supercharge,to save an amount of metal, and 10-cyl. was committed for all TE10* series.You see the result :)

Sadly, most RRs Hated the Upper and Lower Crankshaft Design and Maintenance Suffered Accordingly. Upper Crankshaft had to be Removed to Change One Cylinder Liner, or All. Adequate Engine Cooling Water was always a Factor as Exhaust Manifolds on F-M OPs were Water Cooled.
@eshieldx 30 years is nothing for a diesel loco. Just look at the german V200 or the BR 218. Some of them were built in the 50s, and they do not smoke like that...

I rest my case. I think we have a communication problem here.... If you wanna know what freight locomotives Germany has, you can google BR185, BR152, BR140, BR151 or BR155. Further there are in use: Taurus, the American Class 66, the old Russian Ludmilla (but maintained and not smoking therefore)and many more.
They have two-stoke heavy-weight diesel motors that hadn't been properly maintained for a long time, but still works fine - no one's concerned about the smoke. They're like the AK-47 - you can drag that thing around in the mud or dust for hours, it would still work. Not as accurate as it would be just after cleaning, but still working. These engines are the same...

@mihan2d Обьяснение этому очень простое. Коптят, потому что горючая смесь переобогащена. Это значит, что топлива подаётся слишком много, а воздуха слишком мало. Из-за этого топливо не успевает сгореть до конца, недогоревшие частицы топлива - это и есть копоть. В данном случае смесь переобогащена из-за того, что дизель работает на полную мощность, и соответственно в него подаётся очень много топлива
But you are aware that I´ve talked about the enviromental standards of Germany? Further I hope you are aware that the loco in the video isn´t a German one, right? My main issue was your formulation "rest of the world" in connection with the "high" enviromental standards of the USA. If you talk to somebody from Switzerland or Germany about "high enviromental standards of the USA" you will probably see laughing people...

These diesel locomotives are emitting huge, enormous amounts of smoke, not at all normal for diesels. Is something wrong? Эти тепловозы испускают огромное, огромное количество дыма, а не на всех нормальных для дизелей. Что-нибудь случилось?
@22fret Not comparable things. And V200 retired many years ago. =)) Put your V200 in heavy freight service in Siberia conditions with poor maintenance. Ha-ha. I want to see it, really! These TE10 have very old 10D100 diesel. Diesel originally from USA Fairbanks-Morse company copied in USSR after WWII for TE3 locomotives. For new TE10 series they took again this diesel, but improve its with new more powerful turbocharger. Power was increased from 2000 (TE3) to 3000 h.p. (TE10), but....
@22fret but this turbo is weakest thing in this loco. Very unreliable thing and need punctual and often maintenance. Depots not want to do it properly, unfortunately. And here we can see "good" example of this maintenance. Turbocharger is heavily coked and dirty and turbine can`t provide enough air for fuel. As a result too reach fuel mixture is not burned completely in cylinders, and is thrown out with a large amount of soot.

Yes, it is based on TE3, while TE3's diesel IS a copy of FM from some ship, so don't tell people false. Soviets DID copy FM.

Such locomotives still run on a regular basis also in Baltic states which are considered now "civilized" by Western Society.
U may be right but they all seem to smoke like this so I have a suspicion that theyre overfuelled to get power and maybe not that efficient?
