  • Thought this was interesting. Quick comparison of the before and ofter of just the Solex reflective 1/4" insulated house wrap sometimes called double bubble vs the areas where I had installed R19.

Put the cooler and fan up high as you can that will help with cooling.

    What was the OUTSIDE temperature?

I recently made a better more thorough follow up video to this one. Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/64olnZc0xcA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=9FjsX1HlBFSpO887

I just finished framing my shop and I’m planning on doing the R-19 roll insulation as well. I’ve also got that same exterior vapor barrier stuff. You think it would be beneficial to take twine and staple gun and make “netting” to hold the insulation in?

Awesome to hear your shop is going up!
Why would you need to hold the roll insulation in with netting if it was faced? The paper part of the faced insulation gets stapled to the framing.

@@diymetalfabrication well I was thinking of not doing any framing. I was going to run some horizontal 2x4’s across the posts. Trying to save some $. They also have this product called “insulhold”. Just curious what you think

They sell 8' wide unfaced Batts that hang from hooks placed on the outer stringers just for that purpose.
They talk about it here. I believe it is available at Menards and most post frame building suppliers

Here is a build thread where the guy shows how he put up his 8' wide bats.

I’m sorry but your video was of absolutely no value at all without knowing what the temperature of the siding is without any insulation.

Thanks for the comment. Sorry you didn't find it useful. I thought a 17 degree difference between the two types of insulation was a significant observation. The Solex insulated vapor barrier was installed before the tin was put on the building, so I didn't really have a way to temp gun the steel without cutting a hole in the Solex. I suppose in retrospect I could have gone outside and took a temp reading of the metal on the outside.
The shop is now fully insulated and sheetrocked with a ceiling and R60 worth of fiberglass blown in the attic. I have it on my list to do an update video here soon. Feel free to subscribe so you can check it out!

Insulation is installed wrong, flaps go on inside of the studs

    • @diymetalfabrication
      @diymetalfabrication  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

Discussions are plenty on this topic. Per the Owen's Corning install guide, either is permissible. My insulation was approved by the city prior to any sheetrock being hung.
      Typical discussion points:
Face stapling provides more consistent vapor barrier, no compression of the insulation, easier to install.
Side stapling: flatter surface for drywall insulation and ability to use glue on studs behind drywall.
I'm curious why your preference is on the inside instead of the face?

@@diymetalfabrication In my area we must glue the drywall to the stud with a specific liquid nail for drywall, this accounts 80%!of bonding and the screws are only 20 %, the paper interferes with the glue bond. Great videos you are making.
