We stayed in Ridgway. I think it's the perfect place. Size, it's between Ouray and Telluride. Just enough to make a long stay pleasant, like with a decent grocery store with all necessary items. And more affordable places to stay. From Ridgway, Ouray is about 20 minute drive. Telluride is about an hour, +/- how you drive on mountain roads. Love Ouray, small town feel, very lovely, beautiful scenery. Even taking the Million Dollar Highway is about an hour drive, one way. Visit Box Canyon in Ouray. There are many beautiful stops along the way. Telluride is more famous, popular and way bigger. It is truly stunning, the scenery and the town. Make sure you do the free gondola ride to higher grounds. Telluride has been a bucket list. After fulfilling, one drawback for me was that it is a very large town. It's like a city town, hustling bustling everywhere. Ouray feels more peaceful. And almost same with Ridgway even though it's bigger. That whole area is just spectacular, tons of outdoor activities and scenery. It's a must. One caution. In summer time, or other times I suppose, if they are getting good rain, they will have landslides here and there. So try to keep your ears open and find out before you head out. I KNOW! We went south on the Million Dollar Highway, about 15 minutes down, it started to rain where we were. We waited it out 20 minutes, didn't let up, so we decided to head back to Ridgway. There was a landslide blocking the road, 3 feet high, 30 yards wide. This was around 2:00pm. We drove down to Silverton to wait it out. We waited until 5:00pm. Still then, the estimated time to re-open the road was 1:00am. There was no place to stay in Silverton. Only place with rooms was in... Durango! So we drove down thinking we will stay in Durango. But on the way down, looked like it rained less on the way down. After dinner in Durango, we decided to take a chance the roads heading back up on the Telluride side were safe. Fortunately, no closures. So from Durango, to Dolores, to Rico, passing by Telluride, we made it back to Ridgway around midnight. Oh, on our way to Ridgway, we did drive through roads where landslides had occurred earlier. Check for landslide conditions!!!
Thanks for visiting and sharing our beautiful town! When you come back, make sure you stop into O'Toys in Ouray! We're a great place to play out of the rain!
amazing video! I love Colorado, hoping to experience those lake hikes this summer. I could see the emotion in your eyes and knew that visiting the San Juan Mountains is a must for a amazing experience! god bless and safe travels.
If you get some time, rent a 4x4 and take a trip up into the mountains. We drove from Ouray, up to the top of the red mountains, and down into Silverton all on back roads. There's really some awesome stuff you can get up there and see. We did this in June and there were spots were we literally drove through snow drifts that bulldozers had plowed through. They were taller than the Jeep!
Been going through a lot of videos about CO lately (including other videos from your channel), and this is the most helpful to us. Thank you for showing us the true beauty of Colorado.
On my trip to Ouray we went to the Orvis Hot Springs near Ridgway, and its clothing optional but definitely not water park like which is why we skipped the Ouray Hot Springs park. Great video!
Currently on a southwest Colorado road trip and the blue lakes hike is on my bucket list for sure. I recently did the Ice Lake Basin trail hike near Silverton and was blown away it’s definitely a bucket list hike too for anyone.
If you visit here please respect the land, pack out your trash, keep your dogs leashed, leave the wildlife alone, obey the traffic laws. Be a good person and have fun.
I love Colorado 💜 thanks for this guide, Colorado is certainly beautiful. I’ll have to get over to that trail. So majestic💜 I’m Wanda, new to your channel.
Omg Im so excited! I just move to Colorado and all your Colorado blogs are so helpful to my husband and my friends, we’re planning a road-trip to Telluride and this content is so helpful to us in this moment 💘 thanks so much !
That's so exciting! Welcome! There so much beauty to be seen here on CO! And this area is definitely one of the best! Thanks for watching! So glad there are helpful to you!
If you are ever in Ouray again, be sure and grab a burger from Maggie's Burgers. They are really good! Also, next time you are in Telluride, instead of driving up to Bridal Veil Falls, hike the Bridal Veil Falls Trail. You will get three different waterfalls on one trail that is less than 2 miles in total! It is worth it. Also, another quick waterfall pay-off is on the Cornet Creek Falls Trail. The trail is a quarter-mile round trip but is a great trail!
Which trailhead did you use when you did the Blue Lakes Trail? I see there are multiple starting points online, but not sure which one to start at. Also, what month did you do the Blue Lakes trail? Thanks for this great video. Very informative and helpful for trip planning.

Thank God it's not a national park or they would ruin it. Country Lodge in Montrose has some nice themed rooms. Dallas Divide is my favorite Colorado pass, breathtaking every time and I used to drive it almost daily.
Awesome video. We are going to Colorado in june. Looking for something not as busy as Estes park RMNP, and breck. Was it really busy when you were there? Also wondering if any activities like zipline, alpine coasters rafting in these area you went?

True Grit Cafe, Oak, and Mi Mexico look EXCELLENT!!! Thank you!!!
I didn't realize how lucky we were to grow up in that area. Lived there through the 70s through 2009 left 12 years ago.
Wow, those lakes are so blue and the greenery is gorgeous!!
Yes, they are so dreamy! Thanks for watching!
The blue lake is in Peru not Colorado.
That Blue Lakes hike looks amazing! Definitely adding that to my list of things to do next time I'm in Colorado.

Does the Ice Lake Basin trail require you to have a 4X4? or is there an easily accessible trailhead there? I'd like to check that place out.
@@nathanbranson9149 no it’s not required it is a dirt road to get to it but it’s not a difficult road.
You don’t technically have to pay to get to box canyon you can get to it through the perimeter trail
That's true.
Better to pay them since they really work hard to maintain trail.
Great job on the video!!!

I hope you can make it too! Thanks for watching!
Orvis hot springs just outside of ridgway is a great option that’s less water-park-y. It is clothing optional, however!
Thank you! I'll keep that in mind! I just don't like "waterpark" hot springs. Doesn't give me the "hot springs" feel! Thank you!
