Mandylion es el tercer álbum de estudio de la banda holandesa The Gathering, publicado en 1995. Este disco supuso un cambio muy importante en el rumbo de la música del grupo, dado que fue el primero en el que participaba una nueva cantante fichada poco tiempo antes por la banda. Anneke van Giersbergen debutaba además escribiendo las letras de los temas vocales, y demostró una fuerza y carácter inagotables, además de una técnica muy pulida y un amplio registro vocal.
El disco fue un gran éxito de crítica y público en toda Europa, y supuso el despegue definitivo de la banda, que con el tiempo ha ido evolucionando su estilo hasta desembocar en lo que la propia Anneke ha definido como "Trip Rock", más atmosférico y menos gótico que en éste primer álbum.
"Leaves" y "Strange Machines" fueron lanzados como sencillos con su respectivo vídeoclip.

This is when live music was 100% awesome. No one with their annoying smartphones, especially the people that hold their smartphones up high for the whole show. No technology devices to distract from the concert with people there to just 100% concentrate on the actual live music.
Yes, and those who go to the show but spend the entire time looking back and taking pictures of themselves? I am there to watch the show, not to take pictures....
What I like about Anneke? There is nothing professional about it: she just loves the music, loves what she does and she is unbelievably darn good at it!

Yo recuerdo que a los 5 años mis padres me ponian a escuchar The Gathering....me gustaba pero no entendía nada. Despues me ponian los VHS y despúes los DVD. Al crecer amé esta banda tanto como mis padres. Ellos eran fanáticos y eso me lo transmitieron a mi. Este concierto de 1996 fue el primero que vi a mi corta edad.

Mann ja!!! So eine geile Band, ich hab sie so geliebt...es muss nicht immer geballer sein, Rumposen ist Energieverschwendung. Die haben es damals einfach gut auf den Punkt gebracht und waren eine geile Liveband. Wie schon jemand oben schrieb, bumms - sind ma' eben 20Jahre dahingesaust und trotzdem zeckt die Mucke wie am ersten Tag.

Don’t worry, you not the only one. I found them a year ago and like the band a lot. I was a dj in the 70’s and 80’s and don’t like this kind of music, but when get older something is changed maybe due my background. Classical, jazz, soul, old-fashion rock and roll. But this band is amazing and my favorite is “Travel” special for me the rendition from their 25 anniversary. Stay save and love music.

We drowned in our Tents, cause of the Rain, we listened to Obituary, cause of Death and i nearly cried cause if Gathering. The best Band that Year was Gorefest, i still listen to them and i think i need to get back to Gathering too...❤

Los 90 fueron tiempos maravillosos para la musica: el grunge y rock alternativo de la época, el shoegazing, los inicios del doom metal, nu metal o el death melódico, el hardcore punk de grupos como Bad Religion, The Offspring, NOFX, NO Fun At All...
Sin embargo sigue habiendo muchisima música de calidad, solo que no se promociona en las listas de éxitos. Hay que entender que el mainstream solo son modas. Aparece una, se exprime y se pasa a la siguiente. Ocurrió con el New Wave, Glam Metal, Grunge, Nu Metal, luego el pop-punk, los grupos indie que imitaban a Television y las modas que vinieran a continuación, que sinceramente las desconozco bastante. Mi consejo es que ignores por completo los singles de moda y lo que suene en la radio, ya que sólo es negocio y es una gran manera de anular los gustos personales de cada uno (independientemente de que haya grupos o cantantes con talento en el mainstream, que de vez en cuando los hay). Indaga un poco por youtube y descubrirás miles de discos igual de buenos que los más antiguos. Saludos!

Man, i think it was over ten years ago that i heard this album. I found these guys by accident. Glad i did. I had no idea she was so cute and a red head. She looks very happy with what she does. A smile the whole time. The first song i heard from them was i think “ strange machine “ same album this song is on. I think the album had continued versions of one song. Like they are related. Sorry. Its been a long while since i last listened.
I saw her in a festival (Printemps de Bourges) in 1999 co-headlining with Moonspell. One of my first metal shows ever. She was like 25-26, so tiny, smiling, shy and all red-blonde... and with such a powerful and mesmerizing voice I was in shock for the whole set.
I've seen her several times after at different stages of her career, she's the most delicious artist I can think of. And I can still listen to Leaves and have goosebumps like when I discovered them back then.
She's one of a kind and simply the first female frontman to magnify a band like no other, way before the Nightwish, Evanescence, Within Temptation, Epica etc... (Doro Pesh is the historical/cliché exception).

This band will always hold a special place to me. I "rediscovered" them a year or so ago and in doing so I rediscovered a part of myself. I had played this so many times back in the late 90s. Wonderful musicians and timeless classics.
