Some of their videos have over a million views, it's a shame that album didn't sell a million copies. It's probably one of the most influential metal records of all time.
I love The Gathering, have ever since I first encountered them. Sand and Mercury will probably forever be one of my favourite songs, it's so magical and mesmerizing.
It's J.R:R Tolkien talking about life and death: there's no such thing as a natural death nothing that happens to man is ever natural since his presence calls the whole world into question all men must die, but for every man his death is an accident and even if he knows it in a sense to it an unjustable violation whether you may agree with the words or not but those are, the key-spring of the lord of the rings
Yes actually it makes a good coincidence that those words are spoken by J.R.R Tolkien. Sand and Mercury is just like Life and Death. Unseperable pairs, tightly connected to each other...
Holy Hell! This is the greatest Gathering song ever! I have never since witnessed such perfection! Mandylion was when I fell irrevocably in love with Anneke. How could you not want to cherish her for all time? And Holy Fuck, that sample intro at the end made me jones for some In Motion #2 too!

SAND & MERCURY: Title of the song means sand 6 m under the surface of planet Mercury. This sand resides on earth to, average 160 m under surface. This is wet white sand which Mercury reverts in it's crystal into black oil, every 6800 earth years. Last time this happened was in 2008, when I reverted copies of MilkiWay galaxies in my head, which are copies of processor bits. Earth and Mercury which turned rewerse for 6 seconds created 810 million tons of fresh oil, average 150 m under surface. Devil is created so oil can never be harvested to extinction, before new one is created. Only oil produced by animal remains is catrane, because of which oil needs destilation. Only Anneke, autor of the song, knew the meaning of the title, beside me.
@@Zoombynation. No. The drummer is pure shit. But regarding the producer, what I mean is a good one that help them soundwise accent all those beautiful tones and ideas. Love them.
Most likely worst comment in the world. The guitarrist is awesome as the whole band is, you're just jealous because you can't do shit with your guitar *-*
This song was like a helping hand pulling me from bottom of my live while in the hard corner of one where suicidal tendencies starts. Now as a happy man i`m every time crying listening this and getting flashbacks. Being stronger mentally as i ever been, i`m going forward with head up grabbing every one doubting in their own fate with myself. Powerful piece of art this song is.
Pfff thats heavy… i myself am going through a difficult period as well an music helps as specially the this band. Anneke is pure gold. First time for me was 30 years ago!
There's no such band like The Gathering, truly unique. I'm so proud to be a part of their lives as I worked for them as their merchandiser, I will never forget all the shows I've witnessed in the nineties 💚

I love how she handles rude shouters at her acoustic concerts, this woman rocks so much... And I never for a second saw her loosing her shit and be unpolite.. Amazing human being.
When i see Anneke' s smile everything looking like rainbow even during dark sounds . She have beautiful heart , soul, smile and voice. Anneke is angel without wings ♥️🤗
If anyone is interested in knowing, the quote at the end was by a French feminist writer and philosopher named Simone de Beauvoir and the quote was recited by J.R.R. Tolkien. Tolkien quoted de Beauvoir in a BBC documentary from the 60's. The audio clip here is taken from that documentary.
I don't think so. I had to google it, but it looks like the audio clip at the beginning of Eleanor is from a National Geographic documentary. Such an amazing song.
Anneke was soo hot and beautiful back then. I still think she is hot and beautiful but she was way younger then and I loved her long beautiful hair. Her voice is so awesome. I loved the way her voice sounded in holding notes, very beautiful voice indeed, with the unique sound the band has!
Oh my, oh my. This is definitely my favorite uhm, era? Epoch? The 94-98 years. They looked so young, and Anneke, oh my god. Anneke looked beautiful. Not that she doesn't now, but back in those days they were all young. I mean, I'm 22, lol. So I was never there or anything, but I wish I had the chance to be 18-20 in the mid 90's, having the chance to see one fo their performances. Damn.
An epic performance by everyone. It was by random chance in 1995 that discovered this band while listening to a Century Media compilation. Amazing vocal by Anneke and excellent song writers by the everyone involved.
