In the case of GM, they repaid the bailout with millions of dollars in interest within 6 months, a net positive for the economy. There are plenty of legitimate, factual arguments against mainline automakers and their shady business practices, to the point where it's completely unnecessary to make sensationalized claims like yours.
@@The_Mixed_Ron_Swanson Oh okay, I guess you know all that and prefer the route Ford took of shutting down factories, liquidating assets and laying off thousands of people across the country, tens of thousands across the globe. Keep pretending like you lost money then. Say nothing about all of the Big Three moving production overseas, foreign ownership and mergers with Chinese conglomerates. Certainly don't mention the bailout being the inevitable result of the idiotic tax structure that will prevent "50 small car companies" from ever being a reality. And act like someone else is the NPC while spouting the one relevant talking point you have, which you were taught by billionaires.
It’s amazing that car prices in the US in the 70’s through 2010 were so low/ cheap compared to Australia Now except for Tesla they are far far higher !! And with no import tariffs on Chinese made cars that discrepancy is getting larger !! The US consumer is getting screwed badly So who is winning in the US ? Only Tesla So it’s a very bleak outlook for the big 3
It's dirty, because I don't have free time from my job at the "Big Chevy" assembly plant. We're barely staying ahead of orders. It would almost seem that people are fine with the price.
I'm an old man, so I can recall that the world's most expensive production car in 1962 was the Rolls Royce Silver Cloud at just under $18,000, at a time when a Chevy Impala sold for $2,800. Now we have Jeeps... JEEPS!... selling for the price of 7 Rolls Royce Silver Clouds!! It boggles my old brain.
To be fair, $18k in 62’ is just shy of $190k today still cheap for that class of car through. Although $2800 for that Impala would be a reasonable $30k today! These companies love to claim “INFLATION! INFLATION!” But are selling 2x~4x the current inflation rate. Greed, plain and simple.
In the 70's I would walk to the corner store with a dollar...1 dollar ...and buy a soda....chips... piece of beef jerky... some candy...a pack of gum...and a little package with a toy glider...yes with a dollar..
I'm 68. I bought 5 brand new cars in my life. Over 30K was always a luxury vehicle. Real wages haven't risen since I last bought a brand new vehicle 30 years ago.
Your missing a big issue. People are finally seeing the difference in repair and longevity differences between the engines in different manufacturers and after warranty repair costs. Having a solid naturally aspirated V8 versus turbo V6 with all more issues is a big selling point.
Ford got clobbered like everybody else in the EV cars, MachE sales are down, and the lightning F-150 production has been stopped with layoffs.... two vehicles required by the overburdening government EPA....
92K for a Chevrolet pickup truck! High Country or Low Country or whatever they want to call it.... it's grossly overpriced! Add 10% for all the extra sales costs and it's over 100K!!! Only a billionaire or a fool would buy one of these.
Just look online , I was looking for one last week and you can get new ‘24 high country for 66k plus 3k off and have it financed for 36 months 0%interest special financing , not as bed as this guy is showing you
Or business owners. I bought one two days ago and they had 4 trucks with that configuration available. FOUR!! They're selling them like hot cakes. Construction companies buy them by the dozen. Especially now before the tax season.
I drive one 8 hours per day 5 days per week. It was given to me new at work and I've been doing this for two years. It now has 20,500 very hard-use local miles and LOADS of idling... it has NOT ONCE gotten me stuck off road in the most adverse conditions you could imagine. It's had two or three recalls for unimportant stuff. It is a very, very good vehicle - don't get me wrong. I don't really care for Chevrolet vehicles, but this one is quite a bargain for what my employer paid for it.
Imagine paying $80,000 for a rapidly depreciating item such as a GM vehicle! Back in 1987, I bought a brand new BMW for $18,000! American car companies and UAW have lost their fkn minds! I live in California, and for $100,000 you can start a business, instead of buying some stupid truck. This is ridiculous!
Truck may very well maintain more value than that new business. I agree with the point though, $100,000 is best spent/invested somewhere besides a new vehicle.
@@midcenturymodern9330 I bought a new Traverse in 2021 for $40k and now I'm being bugged constantly to sell it back to the dealer for a $14k profit. I got in just in time. I'm keeping it and if things don't change it'll be my last car purchase.
I am the average person who wants a simple truck around $37,000 . The xtra trim don’t make the truck run any better . The Big Three is selling a lot of of throw away vehicles that don’t last longer than 150,000 km . Most of them will be recalled 3 to 5 times to fixed the same problems😢
Buy used. I’m still driving and maintaining a 1996 Chevy Silverado I bought new. Paid 30k Canadian at the time. I’ve always had a second 4 door truck when I had kids. I’ll never buy a new truck again. Last one was a 2020 Tundra.
Agreed, I'm considering an entry level Chevy Colorado, starts under 30k. The bed is smaller than a full size but, with the correct options, it can tow 7700 lbs.
Among the big 3 domestic car companies.....there is zero product worth the price. I agree if someone did a decent $25K sedan, it would sell. Maybe the Chrysler family buys it back and turns it around. Thx
Chevy/GMC is having a huge problem with breakdowns at low mileage. Watch some of the tow truck channels. Fuel pumps, electronics, variable valve timing, etc are becoming a nightmare for owners at very low miles. Not interested. I could sell you a truck that doesn't run as well for less money. Buy what works cause it may be the last one you'll ever be able to afford before going to the poor house.
There is an American option for 4 door sedan, and it’s the Toyota Camry. It’s got a higher percentage of American made parts than any new American truck on the truck.
I wouldn't touch one of those trucks. The fuel modulators are defective truck stalls out and won't start right in the middle of the road. You cannot even put these trucks in the neutral without special tools and knowledge just to get it pushed off to the side of the road, you're stuck right where it's stalled bird brains.
What in the world is going on? 8 years ago I bought my 3 bedroom 2 bath brick home for $102,000 and now it’s common for vehicles to cost that much? I guess they are on track for us to own nothing and be happy. Seems there is no push back against that plan. Absolutely ridiculous.
These prices are insane. I think they are forcing people to stop driving by these prices. Only rich people can afford to drive . The government wants you to take mass transit or ride a bike.
They were going to drop it back in 2021. I remember reading about it. Not sure what changed their minds at the time to keep it going. I guess they were looking at Ford's drop in sales after Ford got rid of all their cars except the Mustang.
@@arthurbilenker2622 Fleet sales are helpful in that they bring volume up which in turn brings cost down but at the same time they reduce residuals. Ford and Nissan went all in for fleet and this may be one of the reasons they are both struggling.
A person going to buy a Chevy Equinox and willing to pay $49,000 for it has to be out of their mind, and literally did zero research as to the quality of the Equinox platform over the last 15 years.
I’m willing to bet most people driving around in GM other US brands didn’t actually do research, and were impulsive buyers. And don’t anyone try to deny that to me.
$40k for a Ford Escape and that's their "affordable" vehicle? Ford can #@$% right off. $80k for a Chevy Suburban? $123k for a Wagoneer (obvious niche market of more money than brains there). Those dealers can eat those cars. That's crazy. Give me something like a $25k Buick or a reasonably priced CrossTrek, CRV, or something. I won't feel bad when these dealers start disappearing.

Keep your sedans!!!! That's pretty much the only vehicle that people can afford. These executives are paid very well to make the right decision for their companies and their customers. But, instead they wasted 10s of Billions of dollars on products that don't sell in numbers enough to even cover the costs. Let alone make a profit. I'm not spending over $35,000 on a vehicle.
GM trucks are usually worth more used than their counterparts and cost less new. Easy decision. But the best decision is drive what you have until it's unrepairable.
In 1969, my dad bought a brand new Impala for $4400. It wasn't even top of the line luxury either. But young people today, along with older people like myself on a fixed income, can't afford any of these new car prices. And you can't even buy a new small single cab truck like the early Ford Ranger...anywhere. What I'm saying is, there is a whole segment of the population out here whose car needs aren't even being addressed by American manufacturers. I'm not sorry they are losing money. They have done it to themselves.
4400$ is equivalent to 37000$ in today's money. But progress in technology has made car manufacturing much cheaper than before. But salaries never went up according to the price hikes in real estate and cars. In the 70s, you could buy an apartment for around $750 in Sweden. A VW Golf was around $1500 that time. But now, young people can't move out from the parents house because everything is too expensive. A small apartment is around $100000! Cars have become much more expensive now. A Volvo XC90. When it was released in 2002, it was around $ 35,000. But now the price starts at around 95K.
This might sound crazy, but if car sales dip to the point where the companies are failing, they might be thinking another bailout might be coming. Free money for them might be a strategy. Why else would they price themselves out of so many buyers reach.
Not exactly. They’re manipulating things, but that’s because they just don’t disclose the fact most of their sales go to rental fleets and other corporate fleets. They don’t have big profits from individual buyers.
Nope. The Gov has handed them multiple small bailouts under the guise of other things. $2 billion for a battery factory that will not be built is an example.
@@davidbeppler3032 well yes and no. The battery investment is just being shifted to manufacturing in China, much like how they’ve shamelessly taken the original big bailout and reinvested in outsourcing.
With my 22 year old car as a trade-in, my new reliable, fuel efficient Japanese sedan CAR cost me UNDER 20k after the dust settled while American carmakers are focusing on crazy expensive pickup trucks and SUVs that I don't want or need. The money I saved will be put towards the cost of gasoline, but at 41 miles per gallon, it's going to take a very long time to spend that money.
I went to have some maintenance done at a Ford Dealership last week, thought i would take a look and see if they had a Dark Horse Mustang to look at (they didn't) but i decided to look around, found a nice Ranger for $45k and i thought it was a bit expensive but it was nice. Right behind it was a Ford F150 Raptor and it looked great...then i checked the price out, $93k and just laughed and i couldn't stop laughing as i left the dealership. The sales guy was looking at me and i was just shaking my head laughing. Now i could buy it but WHY would i spend that much for a F150 with some customization on it? No, ABSOLUTELY NOT, not now, not ever. The moment somebody wastes that money and drives off the lot they will lose $25k in "value" as they pull out to drive away.
Man they talk about how bad it is. Then you go into a dealership and they act like it’s your privilege to be there. I won’t ever buy a new car from a dealership still the slimy tactics asked for best deal. It was absurd. I had been there for over an hour. So it didn’t work out. I started to leave then. Let me talk to my sales manager. I guess there was a better deal after all but they wasted my time and apparently it wasn’t the best deal upfront. No sale so sorry
I just bought a Blazer in July because they had $6k below MSRP and 3.9% financing. Right around $34k before tax/title. I wasn't planning to buy GM but Chevy was the only manufacturer offering good discounts and low interest financing on their mid-size SUVs.
Sedan market ain’t dead. It’s US made sedans that killed themselves for a combination of poor quality and awful gradeschool level design. Take it back…grade schoolers can design better looking sedans the the last batch of US sedans.
The big 3 lobbied for CAFE regulations to be the way they are, so they have an excuse to only sell overpriced trucks and SUVs with large profit margins.
@@michaelquinlan2121 the big 3 pointed the gun at themselves for more reasons. Most buyers just didn’t wanna shop those sedans. The existing sedans are still around because many are hybrid or 4-turbo variants. I personally have no yearning to bring back big 3 sedans. They have no place in wasting pages of history books.
The u.s. car prices are absolutely insane. When i was in japan a few months ago i bought a 2012 honda fit with 40,000km(about 25k miles.) for $4k. And this was one of the more expensive cars. That same car like that here would probably go for $12k at minimum.
Whatever dealership you are going to that allows you to roam is a rip-off dealership. @8:05 mark, that 2025 Chevy 2500 LTZ 4WD has a Std price of $62,000 plus $1,995 destination should be $63,995. However, that dealership piles on options packages ($9,000), and dealer installed options($4,074) for a total of $13,074 to bloat the price up to $77,069, or +20.4% more. If the dealer can't sell that truck, it's on them... for piling on options to squeeze more money from customers.

Businesses. I just got a new truck, and my payment is about $470 with the extended warranty. Insurance is $120/month. Everything is a write-off and it'll pay for itself in a couple of months.
I think there would be a huge market for cars and trucks that are just real basic, value priced and quality. They wouldn’t need all the whiz bang crap that hardly works anyway. I don’t know what for sure I think of Chinese autos being sold here, but maybe they’d force our auto makers to adjust their products to fit the market. Who buys these vehicles $50K plus? Thousand dollar a month payment, that’s crazy.
Chinese automakers I believe are here to stay and dominate the legacy automotive market share. They paid Porsche designers to design the vehicles hence why the cars look similar to Porsches but fitted out with the latest technology, better quality batteries, longer range for a fraction of the price. They also know to keep their place in the market the cars would have to be built to last but the byd shark parts are interchangeable with raptors and rangers.
LOL. That grand wagoneer cost almost as much AS MY HOUSE. And it was built, brand new ... no previous owners. Granted that was 10 years ago or so. But still ... that's insane. What .... are they going to start financing cars with 30 year loans?? How else could you afford that?
Find an older model. I bought a 2002 silverado for $2500(kind of a one time deal) with 260k on, I had a few problems that I fixed and have a few more to fix, but the engine/trans are original and it's at 304k now. A/C still works, all power stuff still works, just no heat cuz I'm cheap😅

The first thing to consider when buying an EV is 1) can you get insurance for it. Seems like some major car insurance companies will not insure them. 2) Where are you going to charge it. Unless you own your own house and can put in a personal charging station you will be at the mercy of public charging. Forget about charging if you are renting an apartment. The chance of an EV catching on fire and burning the apartment complex down will give them nightmares.

I will never spend $120,000 on a car ever if it doesn’t have a bathroom or shower in it why buy it you could spend that kind of money on a RV and you can live in it and buy your truck to pull it. I think soon as we stop by and all these cars don’t buy any new cars for at least like next five years.

In early 2015.....I bought a left over 2014 2 LT chevy Cruze for 16,900 and change out the door....It was the very first new car I ever bought..
I cant afford any new offers from any dealers ....it is outrageous
Grab a new Chevy Trax for $20k, probably comparable to the Cruze. I see a lot of them on the road around here, hopefully they end up being reliable.
I have the money and it's going to stay that way. Repeal the chicken tax or allow me to pay it.
Amen. I want a Toyota Hilux. I saw about a dozen of them in Mexico last spring that I would've loved to take home.
@@nicks7768 All over the world, just not here, the free country.
Fucking Johnson and the Kennedy Killers...
Bring back the Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit and Chev Spark.
You always have one member in the family that can't fit into those cars.
Says ALOT about the Obesity problem in the US.
@jamesdallas I agree 100%
Bring back the worst cars ever to be forced on the US buyer? Screw that, BRING BACK BIG BLOCKS!!!
I appreciate your straight forward no BS information.
Appreciate it! 👍
I won't stand for any El Camino slander in this chat
The thing doesn't even look like an El Camino! Looks like an Avalanche.
El Camino screams I’m a loser !
Guess I’m holding on to my 2014 until prices drop or my salary increases…works for me….
39000 for a ford escape..lololololol..no wonder Ford is going under
The first thing to consider when buying an EV is 1) can you get insurance for it.
Do they not remember what saved dodge / plymouth back in the day. Dodge caravan minivans and k cars !!!
Working as a service advisor I see all of the "Affordable" vehicles you listed all day every day. They are absolute garbage. I'm a gm guy but there small vehicles are all garbage same as ford.
I will never spend $120,000 on a car ever if it doesn’t have a bathroom or shower in it why buy it you could spend that kind of money on a RV and you can live in it and buy your truck to pull it. I think soon as we stop by and all these cars don’t buy any new cars for at least like next five years.
@ I love watching your videos they’re awesome
I just bought a 2021 Silverado Crew Cab ZR1 4X4 for......$27k in Los Angeles! I looked for a while to find what I wanted, and you can and if my tranny didn't die I would have still been driving my old Silverado my mechanic is swamped. Also....look into Tesla resale, we are talking 60%+ dumps on their cars in 2 years....Elon is destroying it.
They can keep all of them until they figure out a large segment of potential buyers do not want their vehicles loaded with whiny, needy tech features that blink and flash endlessly at us. Bring back BASIC CARS and TRUCKS!
