    Toto means “in total, all together; Latin in toto”. Notice how Toto was not scared of the Great Wizard’s theatrics, yet he was so small in size compared to the Wizard, no-one seemed to notice him. The smoke, flames and hologram images were designed to frighten people into doing as the Great Wizard of Oz commanded. Toto simply went over, looked behind the curtain saw it was a scam, and started barking until others paid attention to him and came to see what all the barking was about.
    It was just an ordinary person controlling the levers that created the illusions of the Great Wizard’s power and authority. The veil hiding the corporate legal fiction and its false courts was removed. The Wizards game was up. It’s too bad that people don’t realize just how loud a bark from a little dog is.

      Toto means young boy, in this context, but I agree with your interpretation otherwise, however it is the "young boy" who is small and humble enough to see under the curtain, to see that the religious authority was just another man made scam.

    What people absolutely fail to notice is that this movie is all about death, the afterlife, past lives, and future lives. It literally proves that there is life after death, which is why I watch this movie religiously at least once or twice a week. It's that powerful, and it enthralls the masses because of its grip on the human unconscious. The tornado symbolizes the act of death and the turbulence associated with it. When Dorothy gets hit with the windows, the death process begins. We see within the tornado all the people who mean the most to her, both her family and her main enemy (the Wicked Witch). This is called visioning, which happens during the dying process, and you actually see what's to come (symbolized by the changing of Ms. Gulch to the Witch), and meanwhile, the ones she loves just take different forms in the next life but are the same at their core.
    It's also extremely important to know that L. Frank Baum was a theosophist. What is theosophy? "Theosophy holds a monist position that there exists a single divine Absolute and articulates an emanationist cosmology in which the universe is perceived as outward reflections from this Absolute. The purpose of human life is spiritual emancipation and the human soul undergoes reincarnation upon bodily death according to a process of karma." Furthermore, the slogan for theosophy is "There is no religion higher than truth." ----- "There is no place like home."
    NEED I SAY MORE? Absolutely not. I just nailed the exact interpretation of this movie according to L. Frank Baum. You're welcome!!! Hopefully, my revelation here causes millions of people to see this movie in a brand new light.

      @@realdealastrology9 well that’s quite a pretentious thing to say. Everybody gains different things out of movies and sees their own symbolism. I just felt that the movie didn’t really show anything pointing towards your analysis. The thing you said about the tornado can make sense but tbh lots of things can be made to symbolize death. It could just be a tornado not meant to symbolize anything. If you really want to prove your point you could go more in depth. you really only discussed the tornado sequence and the parallel characters in oz. However, there’s still a whole movie. for example, What does the whole journey in oz symbolize in the “death process”? what does the ending symbolize? you seem very full of yourself so i’d love to hear your response. I could very well be wrong i only said I THINK your opinion is a reach so i would love for you to change my mind.

    What an incredible analysis of this legendary film! This really covers the historical context of the film which I felt was overlooked in other reviews. The rise of fascism and the class disparity are subliminal in the film, but are consistently there nonetheless. The context of the poverty is quite powerful: the setup of Dorothy being an orphan in the Dust Bowl during the Great Depression is heart wrenching & you can see how that would fuel her imagination & desire to travel. I believe there to be some occult & alchemy symbolism within the story as well. Great video! Subscribed!

      @@MaskedMan66 The film is different from the book, smartass. It was made late in the Great Depression and is inarguably meant to appeal to a Depression-era audience. People like my grandparents who raised me who loved the movie for those reasons. The time period context in which a movie is made has at least as much relevance as the time period in which the movie is set. The same has been said about "Gone with the Wind", which came out the same year in 1939. Both movies are very much about the Depression despite being set earlier.

    Interesting interpretation. I came to a different one. It's about NPD within a family dynamic and societal one as well. The abuse leads to CPTSD in good little Dorthy. expressing itself in D.I.D. the Lion, scarecrow,and tinman. With Dorthy as the host personality. The tornado was the fracturing of her mind into multiple personalities. The house crashing down on one of the bad witch represented the real life act Dorthy committed. A death. the Wizard represents her father, The wicked witch of the west is an Aunt, mother, or older sibling in representation. the munchkins represent those in the world who see the truth since they watch it from a 3rd person point of view. they see the narcissist attack their victim, but stand aside and do nothing but sooth after the attack is over. flying monkeys are the beta personality types that become the army of the narcissistic leader. In the end, putting out the fire is what destroys the narcissist. putting out the fire the narcissist spreads.

      Fantastic perspective and insight on the source of inspiration for the film. Very true that the original source text's sequels as well most derivative works speak a lot on the points you mentioned, morality becomes introduced quickly throughout the later books in the series, with a heavy emphasis on innocence and coming to grips with the fact that wonderland cannot exist without the inherent duality between good and bad.
      However, as mentioned throughout the video, several factors were changed from the original source text when being translated to film. Victor Fleming intentionally removed, added and changed multiple scenes, perspectives and ideologies around in order to better suit the time at which the film was released in.
      Baum's vision was definitely altered and to an extent, diminished by the release of the film, which instantly and lastingly eclipsed the popularity of the original novel, particularly with the explicit references to the political climate at the time, which, ironically is shielded from the innocent due to it requiring analysis, as well as pre-existing knowledge of historical context to unveil, as if the evils of the world only come to those who seek knowledge of their events.

      @@poostin8771 Victor Fleming had nothing to do with the script, which was the result of twenty-odd minds, including those of Bert Lahr and Jack Haley, who added bits of their own dialogue as filming progressed.
      There were no explicit references to the political climate of 1938 and 1939 since no mention was even made of politics, and because of the fact that the story was set in 1900.

      The Tin Man with no heart is an obvious reference to industrialization, while the Scarecrow with no brain appears to represent agriculture, and the Cowardly Lion seems to represent political leaders that are all talk and no action. In my mind, society (Dorothy) moves forward when all of these work towards a common goal using resources such as gold and silver (the yellow brick road and silver slippers) to aid them. Ultimately, Dorothy finds that happiness and fulfillment can be found within herself and her family rather than in the utopian Emerald City of Oz.

Frank Baum's reasons, which I already quoted, are clear. The Tin Woodman-- who, as anyone knows who knows the story, already has a heart-- had his origin was in Baum's love of tin toys.
      The Scarecrow-- who, as anyone knows who knows the story, already has a brain-- came from a recurring nightmare that Baum had in childhood.
      The Cowardly Lion-- who, as anyone knows who knows the story, already has courage-- was simply a walking paradox, which appealed to Baum.
      Baum wrote fourteen Oz books in all-- did you know that?-- and eventually, Dorothy did make her home in the Emerald City, having Princess Ozma wish Uncle Henry and Aunt Em there with her.

      @@jburger84 Scarecrow is a man made of Straw=Strawman its a legal fiction, the song even states he'd unravel every riddle if he only had a brain. Paper Strawmen don't have brains and we are deceived via that status on paper. This whole movie is a reference to the gold heist, the Bricks are yellow bricks (Gold bricks) they are the stolen bricks leading to the Emerald City Emerald being Green the color of what we know as the dollar bill or federal reserve note is also Green, the Wizard of Ounces OZ is depicted to weight of gold. for paper certificates. The original book she wore Silver Slippers because silver was the hope of reclaiming what was lost to the Fed. Now they are Ruby Red depicting Blood. This movie does have a real set meaning and its very detailed and wicked when you understand it. It involves how we were all enslaved under the "Privately owned Federal Reserve Banks" This happened in Kansas as it was considered "The Heart of America" and this was a strike to the Heart of the country. This was all to clear to the older generations whom lived through what happened in the great depression a calculated event that was carried out to steal the gold reserves of America making the currency worthless.

    The scarecrow tin man and lion represent thought emotion and action or mind spirit and body. Hence if I only had a brain heart and nerve. When your thoughts emotions and actions are aligned you are bound to accomplish what you set out to do. This is also the trinities in all of religion! The Father the Holy Spirit and the son.

Frank Baum wrote the first fourteen, then after he died, his widow gave permission for the series to continue. Ruth Plumly Thompson wrote a further nineteen, John R. Neill, who illustrated most of the books, wrote three, Jack Snow wrote two, Rachel Cosgrove wrote one, and the final Oz book, "Merry Go Round in Oz," was written by Eloise Jarvis McGraw and her daughter Lauren.

    What about the pitiful Cowardly Lion was always too frightened to stand up for himself. Of course, he was a bully and a big mouth when it came to picking on those smaller than he was. They act as if they have great courage, they really have none at all. All roar with no teeth of authority to back them up. When push came to shove, the Cowardly Lion always buckled under and whimpered when anyone of any size or stature challenged him. He wanted courage from the Grand Wizard, so he was awarded a medal of “official” recognition. Now, regardless of how much of a coward he still was, his official status made him a bully with officially recognized authority. He’s just like the attorneys who hide behind the Middle Courts of the Temple Bar. What about the trip through the field of poppies? They weren’t real people, so drugs had no effect on them.

      Completely wrong. The Lion is cowardly, which means he's easily frightened, but he is no coward. If it's just him in danger, he'll run for his life (which is only sensible), but if someone else is in danger, he will fight to the death-- and that shows that he truly does have courage. All of the travelers already have whet they think they require, and that is the whole point of the story. "Middle Courts?" "Temple Bar?" What is all that?

    I don't want to come off as confrontational or rude or anything but I think you might have a problem with your weight. Again I'm here to talk if you need to. I've been through obesity problems myself and it's a journey but I know you can make it through! The world has a way of always working these things out. Please, before you create another video focus on yourself rather than pouring your heart into video essays. Even just a change in diet can make a drastic difference, maybe substitute a chocolate bar with a healthy snack like a banana?
    Your personal health means a lot to me, and I know it'll be difficult. Weight loss is a massive challenge but if I could do it, you can too!

      it's an allegory of how the american people were enslaved when the US went off the gold standard. dollars were backed by people not gold. Toto means everything. The cowardly lion represents the american people, the straw and tin men represent the "person". Follow the yellow brick road means follow the gold. Our gold was stolen and we were enslaved by fear.

People in prison are collateral for municipal bonds.
