  • I love Texas cichlids right now. I always feed them a high quality food to make that color pop on them. Omega One brand is my favorite.
Hey guys. Thank you for accepting me in to the group. Can someone help me figure out why my cichlid is exhibiting this behavior? He's usual more active and isn't eating. I understand he needs a bigger tank and I'm not a professional.
A background may help also. He seems ok besides the fact that he appears stressed from the openness of the tank and the fact he's retreating to the only possible hiding spot he can find. Are there any other fish? Normally when fish act like this is due to being bullied. I've also seen them do it when they have internal parasites and your fish does have a bit of a sunken belly. Not saying that's the case, but I wouldn't rule it out.
Thank you for your responses. He does NOT have any other fish in the tank with him. I am actually still trying to establish if its a male or not. No hiding places. Im embarressed.... I will go out and buy one as soon as I get off work. I am going to upgrade to a 75 gallon as soon as I get myself situated.
Guys! I woke up this morning and found my Betta (about 18 months old) had a missing fin! In the last week he has moved to a 70 Litre tank with 2 bristlenose and 2 snails. He was in 40 litres so used to a big environment. PH 6.5 Temp 27 Degrees KH 6 GH Amonia 0. Any idea what could have happened? Excuse the mess, tank was cleaned after I took photos.
Never owned an oscar, so I have some questions. How hard are they to care for? What do you feed them and how much? And when your arm is in the tank cleaning it will they bite you? Oscars are relitivly easy to keep. I personally feed good quality pellots and insects. You need a large tank and good filtration. As to biting yes they bite. But you usually see them coming at you lok i just push mine out of the way haha. But in saying that ive been bitten a few times over the years. Tank mantinance is must.
I agree with Maria above. Also, be aware, some pet stores will tell you they can eat minos or guppies, but they aren't good for their digestive track, trust me, I'm just getting over treating mine for a tummy ache and bladder infection. Cichlid Gold pellets are my favorite brand for pellets. As for bugs, my oscar loves meal worms. Just a little info. Hope you have fun with your oscar. They're awesome fish to have. They're so aware of their owner/s, almost like little fish dogs.
If u want a fish with a strong, distinctive personality, the Oscar is 4 u. A well cared 4 Oscar (s) are full of personality. They need a large tank, well filtered tank. As for feeding, I used to feed mine canned shrimp which I rinsed in warm water. At the time I owned mine, more than 40 yrs ago, there were no commercial foods specially for cichlids. They did well in it, as well as my other cichlids. As for Oscars biting, well they r territorial, so if u invade their territory they will retaliate. My girl bite me on occasion, especially during spawning. In summary, Oscars are my favorite cichlid. Full of personality. Given the proper environment and foods, not difficult to keep. They learn to recognize their owner(s) and can be trained to b hand feed and petted. Just love, love Oscars. Hope to have a pair again in the near future.

I have one cichlid tank and I just try to break every rule and tradition with cichlid keeping. Americans with Africans, convicts with other species, peacocks and mbunas, you name it! They are all alive and healthy too.

Texas Cichlids are neat fish & aren't boring @ all. They enjoy hard high PH water. If your not a purest they make good tank mates for African Cichlids.

That tank is a rising star in my heart. I love Texas C.
Palmer, please do a fish room tour; I seriously think you underestimate your subscribers and their overall interests in your pets. I hope you don't get too annoyed with my incessant comments, but I do enjoy your channel.

Palmer Fish Cave where did you get the wild Texas Cichlid? I have 2 green Texas Cichlids and have been searching vigoursly for a black and white one just like yours... I've even set traps and cast netted the Rio Grande and Guadalupe river here in TX trying to catch one...

They can survive in 50 degree water. They’re the most cold hardy Cichlid

@@anantsingh6915 they can,but they wouldn’t be able to breed effectively or thrive in those conditions. In Louisiana, the water temp can get to around 50°F or lower during winter

Tony Capone - Their in Lake Pontchartain as well. I think they're in Louisiana to stay. The canals in New Orleans have sizeable populations of Texas Cichlids too.

I've read that the texas cichlid I have prefers a soft sand bottom its paired up and mated with my jack dempsey and I've noticed the female digging in the rocks very aggressively shes been doing it for a few days in diffrent spots I'm not sure if shes finding a good spot to nest or if shes trying to find sand to lay in any ideas?

My common Pleco was an annoyance to my Tex Boss and so I promply fed the Pleco to a Pelican to restore law and order. Mad fish and I love it I wish I had two but they calm down alone with appeasing tank mates like corys clowns balas and other sharks and my 10 Firemouths are almost cared for like a parent by my Texan...who is currently tunneling to China

I laughed after watching this. The one fish you recommended not putting with Texas chichild is an angel fish. My texas chichild is probably around 7 inches and pretty aggressive.. I have tried a few different tank mates. My texas goes after my blood parrot but the parrot is able to keep away from him. The texas constantly starts with my Dempsey , my Dempsey can handle handle him.. the Dempsey is like ok you got a problem? Let's go 😀 my texas completely ignores my common pleco. But!! My silver angel fish, my texas is terrified of my angel. If the texas even comes close to my angel fish it's war.. the angel fish attacks .. its hilarious 🤣. I have had other angel fish all were mellow. This one is a pit bull. I bet I could put him I'm with my full grown tiger Oscar if I wanted..

I have a foot long pleco and while my Texas cichlid messes with him the pleco seems I phased and just brushes him off with his tail my pleco is a beast tho and they have been in the same tank for over 3 years now without any major issues. My Texas has killed a few fish tho over the years and still to this day prays on my lobster but lobster is smart enough to stay out of reach 🤷🏼‍♂️

Aggressive enough and easy enough to keep that they are on the Louisiana invasive fish list. Be a responsible hobbyist if you buy these.

Show the damn fish already, no one wants to stare at your mug all day. show the fish say what you have to say and be done with it.
