    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think they make some versions with casters that can quickly lock down, but these are meant to live over top of the plumbing. We use some light aluminum platforms all over this place that we can just grab and move.

    Just wondering why with as much invested why not e redundant return pump?...even the best can fail.

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question! Unlike a regular home aquarium, the plumbing here goes hundreds of feet so in order to duplicate that it would cost five figures per system and add a lot more congestion. We decided instead to have a backup pump ready to go in case one fails.

    Than, regarding that filter sock section. It’s awesome BTW. I have one similar but just smaller and I’ve had a small fish wash up “on top” of the filter sock silencers and died. Couldn’t get enough water before I found it. If you see a lot start to go down the drain and end up in the first chamber. It may be a good idea to put an acrylic baffle or a strip of gutter guard before they get sucked into the filter sock silencer section so they don’t get washed up there and die. Will likely save a lot of fish.

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      We are going to have to see how it goes. Hopefully these fish will settle down a little and stay out of the drainage.

  • @nipponjim7815
    @nipponjim7815 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Very nice system, easily the best builds on youtube.
    Curious though, how do you drill the glass for the bulkheads on the bottom?
    I wanted to do this for the main filtration intake on my tank but settled for increasing the substrate depth and runnning a short pvc elbow back to the back wall and then 90 up into the hang-on-back.
    I have a demo of it on my channel.
    Can you make a recommendation on what glass cutting equipment to buy?
    Thank you Sir!

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is drilled by the tank manufacturer.

  • @maxvan11
    @maxvan11 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome. Curious why some tanks have the closed loop outlets (inlets?) facing toward the center of the tank, while other tanks have them facing the walls of the tank...? Experiment? Different corals?
    Maybe I missed where you explained that...

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Those are all temporary. For right now I just wanted to make sure the water doesn't go straight up like a fountain. We can plumb pretty much anything into there once we see how the corals respond.

    Hi, one more time, thanks for sharing such valuable info and beautiful setup! Regarding roll paper filter, you expressed your worries about the water flow.. but compare a large paper as large as the sump, twice time up and down, and compare it to your socks.. I don't think there's here an issue. And the fact it is new technology shouldn't scare you, you have quite way more complex system setup else where on the line I'm sure. You could setup also both system during limited time to make sure transition is safe, roll paper then socks. Talking about high tech.. what about ozon? Benefit validated? Unexpected issue? ;-)

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ozone so far is going well. I have it on the other two systems in this building.

  • @ak9381
    @ak9381 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Than, just wondering if you've tried Ozone laundry for socks? I'm looking at upgrading my machine and ozone is now available in domestic models. I figured you'd be the person most likely to be nerdy enough to try it

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't. I use as little detergent as possible when cleaning socks. Maybe a tiny bit of bleach on the first wash and then nothing in the second wash.

    Given the theme of no expenses spared why not cut an oversized trough/linear floor drain into the slab to conceal the pipe - eliminating the trip hazard.
    There already looks to be a circular floor drain adjacent.

    • @tidalgardens
      @tidalgardens  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is a radiant floor heating system so no cutting into the concrete anymore. Any of the underground would have had to have been planned 3 years ago and installed before the floor was poured.

    • @tidalgardens

      @@tidalgardens I’ve just gone back and fourth with a friend over witch is better and they swear that Neptune is way superior because spread etc, however I disagree and use the same gen five pro’s from like 2020 but the aluminum / smooth finish on the radion I find to be nicer the Neptune housing is very cheap feeling to me however this is just my opinion there both the best lights on the market right now I just think there equivalent
