Just an idea - trimming the double sided tape with a staple against the board edge is easy compared to scissors.

Anything that's filled with a color in your design will engrave. If there's just a line with no fill color, that line will cut.
I don't own a Glowforge yet, but watching how you make it look easy is getting me one more step closer to ownership.
I was TERRIFIED to start using it, but it really is easy to learn how to use. It's not so scary once you learn a few basics. You just have to dive in and play with it. (Use my referral code if you decide to get one and want to save 💰)

Oh, I love hearing that you're finding this video so helpful! I use a white 1/8" MDF for my letters so I don't have to paint them. It also comes in black now! The link is in the description to H&H Creations Tampa where I purchase it.
Very Nice! I’m new to the laser, I have an ORTUR LM2 Pro to mess around with. Looking at the Glow Forge, have you had any issues and if so how is the customer support. Thanks again for sharing!
I've had my Glowforge for over a year, and I've not had any problems. So I can't speak to customer support because I haven't had to use it. But I will say that there are so many helpful forums out there and FB groups of Glowforge users that you can always find information for something you may be having trouble doing.

I believe I just commented on an ornaments video where you introduced me to the 3M product. In case it wasn't you, wanted to know your experience with how well the 3M product holds up in outdoors environment. Thank you again - just subscribed sine I am new to lasers. All of my previous experience was CNC work.
The 3M has held up very well on the door hanger sign I've hung on my front door. It gets direct sunlight on it, but is covered by my porch so it's not in all the elements. But the lettering was not going anywhere! I actually had to pry it off when I decided to change something on my sign. I'm very happy with it's durability.

Thanks for the information! Can you tell me how you created the silhouette of the lake? We have friends that live at High Rock Lake and I would love to make a similar sign for them.
You're welcome! Just go to Google maps to get the shape of the lake. Then I trace it in Silhouette Studio to create the SVG.

Hi Stephanie! Thanks for the tips. Quick question: for the polycyclic, did you apply two coats, sanding in between, or just one? And did you find the alcohol to have any effect on the finish when you went to wipe off the char marks? I used an alcohol wipe and found that it left streaks in the finish. Thanks for your help!
I do 1 coat of polycrylic. I never have a problem with the alcohol leaving streaks, but I don't use an alcohol wipe. I just pour alcohol on a microfiber cloth. Not sure if that's the difference.
I haven’t purchased the tape yet…I use spray gorilla glue…have you tried it? Im so afraid the tape won’t hold up
@@MichellKaulGirlinAir I've not tried the spray glue, but I do know the tape holds up GREAT! I tried to pull up some wording on a front door hanger that had been hanging in the direct sunlight for months and it did not want to come off. It wasn't going anywhere without a lot of prying. I couldn't save the word because it had to come off in pieces because it was on there so good.
Sorry to be a grammar cop, but this might be helpful for future signs. If you're telling people that The Reimans live in a place called "Lake House," you don't need the apostrophe. It's two nouns in a row. If you're telling them that this is the lake house the Reimans own, it's The Reimans', because their name is now an adjective. If the family's name ends with an 's' and they live there, you'd use an apostrophe followed by another 's', The Jones's, and if you're saying they own the house, it's The Jones'. The difference is between the nature of the name being used, whether it's the possessing people or an adjective describing the possessed thing. By saying "The Reiman's" you're actually saying that there's one person named or titled 'Reiman' who owns the house, as in "The King's Castle" being a place Charles controls even if he doesn't live there.

How strong is the two sided tape?
VERY! Once it's pressed down, it's DOWN and not going anywhere. I highly recommend it. It's worth every penny.

I was TERRIFIED before I got my Glowforge. I had no idea what to do. I look back now and laugh, because in just over a year, I've learned so much. I use Silhouette Studio for all my designing and just import my designs into the Glowforge software. Super easy! There are also a ton of places you can get files ready to go straight in the Glowforge app so you can get to making things right away. There's some learning involved, but it's not hard. You got this!!!
