  • A common problem with Lexus and Toyota interior blower fans is they start to rattle. Often this is caused my the stator moving on the bearing housing. If you have checked the bearings and end play and all is fine but still have a rattling noise, here I explain the problem and show you an easy fix for no cost.
If you want to know how it comes apart there are plenty of videos already to show you how. I'm not saying this is the only cause of the problem but something that is common and easily overlooked.

Hi Alex, I am in ChCh and am looking at this model currently for my wife. What are your general ownership impressions of the vehicle ?

These are good reliable cars, but with a catch, the hybrid the battery has a limited life, usually they fail around 200,000kms with astonishing regularity. Then you're faced with a problem, you then have a perfectly good car which needs $5000 NZD spent on it for a new hybrid battery. The economics just don't work, if you plan to keep it for a long time, better off buying a normal non- hybrid car. On the flip side if you buy one low kms and sell it before 190,000kms, you will have a perfectly reliable car.

Hi, great vid, how do you get the black plate off that the 3 pins go through

There are three metal lugs bent over at the opposite end from the connectors. These are meant to stop the stator sliding on the mounting. Bend them back and the stator should slide off. Just make sure when re-assembling the stator is firmly fixed on the black plastic mounting otherwise it will rattle. Bend the metal lugs, glue it, does not matter.

The rattling sound used to really annoy me, you will have to fix it yourself. Mine still is perfect since I glued the stator to the mounting. If the bearings are good and it still rattles, this is probably the fault. Common fault with this fan.
