Hi Rick, Enjoy your videos and the honesty that comes through. I think the fact that you are thinking these thoughts on such a regular basis already suggests you are on the slope. i am not trying to scare you or even discredit you. If you have to argue/debate about having a drink this already shows a problem. This is coming from somebody who had a massive problem (although i did'nt realise it)with alcohol from a young age up to being around 40 ( i am now 52 ). I went to the pub 5 evenings a week after work and was drinking around 60 pints of bitter a week and then 1 to 2 bottles of wine on a Saturday night at home with my wife. The day we dropped my son at university and was on our way home, my wife said to me, don't think i am staying at home on my own every night whilst you go the pub. That comment was a life changer. Within 3 months i stopped going out and was only having 1 bottle of wine over the weekend. Since then, i started my own business, we have a brand new motorbike we like touring on and have at least one foreign holiday a year. I don't think about having a beer any more and some weekends i don't drink at all. My advise would be never drink on your own, if you have to argue with yourself then don't have that drink and maybe say you will have a drink one day of the week or if you go out for a meal etc. hope this helps.
I've had a great life. I've been with the live of my life for 30 years, we are still going strong. Then it all went downhill 2 years ago when my mam got cancer, she battled for a year, but unfortunately we lost her last December. Then for 10 months we looked after my disabled dad the best we could, but he was heartbroken, lost the love of his life of 50 years, he slowly went downhill, starved himself, he ended up with an infection, then he got pneumonia in hospital and he died in October. They were the best parents anyone could ask for. They would do anything for us. And so much fun. So I can't wait to see the back of this year. I've banged loads of weight on. So here's to a cracking 2025. Hopefully. A lot lighter. And a lot happier.
Hi Rick. Absolutely brilliant. Loving life and having that inner peace is absolutely massive for you. As long as you have a healthy relationship with alcohol then there is no harm in having an occasional drink. Some of the 00% beers are very good. You get the taste and without the pitfalls. Don’t over think it. Don’t deprive yourself either. Everything in moderation. Oh and start swimming. Brilliant Cardio. Low impact. And ye solitude with your own thoughts. You’ll love it.
Your words “ I love my life” are the key words , we all feel guilt when we have a drink and that’s a good thing it’s the control valve on our life.. I said this before- Drink can be a good servant but a bad Master. Thank you for being so honest. I’m sure a lot of people will see themselves in the video.. x
Nice & honest vlog as always Rick. My thoughts - - if you’re having a drink after work ir on your day off with Shelley, then thats your business. If others enquire then stuff ‘em. That said, some will be asking based on your previous vlog & only because they/we care. - Having a drink at where you are in life at the minute is part & parcel of exactly that - where you are. In the entertainment world, it’s almost expected of you. People enjoying themselves want to see you do the same. It’s also so very easy to sit down post-gig, relax & neck a few - we both know that. Especially if you’re full of adrenaline, with the right (or wrong) crowd & just want a laugh & be social. especially if people are sending drinks over without you asking! People on the outside don’t understand that & it’s why so many singers, DJs etc don’t last. You’ve said yourself in the vlog & many times to folk in the past you have to ‘get the job before it gets you’. Don’t punish yourself up. To me, you appear just content, busy & happy at the moment. You’re level-headed, clever & I think you recognise your limits. I had to do the very same just a while ago & it’s flipping hard! 👍👍
Great vlog Rick ❤ you seem pretty much in control in my eyes 👍 there’s a huge difference in ‘wanting’ a drink and ‘needing’ a drink…..when wanting, becomes needing, that’s when there’s a concern 🥰 wishing you both a lovely Christmas 🎄xx
Great one this Rick.. And a poignant one for me personally, having just lost a good friend at the age of 59, had a kidney removed several years ago because of drink, sat down by a doctor and given the old change your lifestyle or else speach... He lived by the 'it'll never happen to me' syndrome.... I live by the everything in moderation theory... Being the designated driver when we go out and being marked 'the boring one " it works for me.. I never grew up in the working mans club environment like most in the northwest. Dont get me wrong i love a nice belgium beer and a few rum n cokes.. But driving keeps my guard up like your scooter.... Keep em coming fella and merry Christmas to Shelley Yourself and family 🙏
Don’t be to hard on yourself Rick there’s nothing wrong with enjoying a drink we all, well most of us do, you live in a place where it almost comes hand in hand with being in one of the best places, I lost 3 stone just through food alone no exercise when I thought it was the beer that was putting the weight on, I enjoy a beer at the weekend still, life is for living my friend if you do it sensibly. I come to Tenerife quite a lot and have seen you around but never said hi but Ill be sure to come say hi next time, take care all the best
Hey Rick. I used to be a binge drinker, go out every Friday Saturday Sunday and get drunk, I never touched it in the week because of work but the I had a health scare. After that I stayed off for around 2 years, now I do partake maybe once or twice a month but not to the extent I used to. I don’t drink in the house unless I have visitors. But the most is when I’m on holiday ( Tenerife) but i have it totally under control 👍
God bless you Rick, you've given me hope, lm on days no wine, its the only thing l like to drink but l will have a glass of wine for Christmas cause lve been fine without. I will also pick up that book you recommended. Merry Christmas to you & Shelley.🎄🎄🎄
Hi Rick. Ive not had a drink since coming back from Tenerife early October. Im having a drink xmas day but then nothing till im back in Tenerife end of Febuary. Lost over a stone in a few months.
i think i may have mentioned this in the past, My Mum was an alcoholic and she dead at the age of 58 and i hated her for that. I have always had a respect for alcohol and ive pasted this on to my kids. You control alcohol the same way you control everything in your life. Should i gamble this £300....No move on. Should i eat this very hot food, Mmmm no move on. Dont over think it or you will lose the control. Am staying in tomorrow night, i have wine and port in the house. I still dont know whether i will have a drink tomorrow because i haven't given it any head space yet but if i do fine. if i dont fine. Like you said when you walk up and all you can think about is having a drink, then you have lost. Here is something to think about, Up north we go out for a drink and socialize. Do south they go out to Socialize and have a drink.
Very honesty, drinking in moderation is ok I find. I can take or leave it but enjoy a drink. I can go a couple of weeks without then have a few. I dont find it an issue. Enjoying your vlogs.
Alcohol relaxes you and makes you feel good, don't beat yourself up , everything in moderation. As you know I've been sober for 4yrs but that's because I had no choice. As long as you enjoy a drink to socialise, and know your limits, and that you don't drink to fill time or a void in your life coz that's when it becomes a problem as you never get anything done and you becone reliant on it, then I personally don't see an issue. 🧑🎄🤶🎄Merry Christmas to you both🧑🎄🤶🎄 xx
Hi Rick, I also have drank for a long time and feel very aware about it. I have also managed to reduce how much I drink. I used to think nothing of drinking a few tins a day or a bottle of wine. I’m now retired but I wouldn’t drink if I was working so it’s even easier now to drink. However, I, like yourself am very aware of drinking regularly and all that goes with it. I am at a point where I’m going days to week without. For me I believe the fact I that I have the awareness and understanding that I need to manage it and am doing. I believe it’s if you don’t have the conversation with yourself or don’t care or don’t want to care that we need to manage it, that is more of a problem. I’m sure there are a minority of people sadly who can’t stop. That may be something different but I believe the fact you are really aware of it is massive. Just my view.
Another great vlog Rick, all in moderation, I think most of us like a drink usually once a week for me unless I’m on holiday. In Tenerife I do drink virtually everyday on holiday, but back home stick to weekly. You can get addicted very easily I’m staying off the beer now due to calories. Same with diets I’ve lost over a stone now which I feel slot better in myself. Each to there own at the end of the day you have a great life there in Tenerife no wonder you are happy 👍
Rick, speaking as a recovering alcoholic my 35 year's working in the same environment & industry with all the pressures bestowed upon me,i wished to have been teetotal, but i needed to put food on the table.signing out,Andy,ex chief beer taster tetleys brewery lèeds north England. Lol..
Rick great vlog ,I think when you know somebody close with a problem ? It makes you very aware and a little bit paranoid .Raymondo said there about the guilt around drinking ,it keeps us in check .You have a terrific life Rick ,your a very busy man on the go all the time .The fact your so focused on this I’d say you’ve got it ,you shouldn’t worry .Don’t use it as a stick to beat yourself up with ,It wasn’t you who had the problem .Take care xx chat soon lv C
I started drink/socializing at 15 and over the next few years got myself in some states until the mid90s. I calmed down then and over the next 30 years, socially drank. Nowadays i still enjoy Fri/Sat/Sunday nights but only about four or so each time. I can't be bothered with being drunk, haven't been properly drunk for decades and know when i've had enough. (Usually when i'm hungry lol"), but I'm happy with that. Good vlog bud. 👍🙂
Ahh, may i say, i had a feeling somewhere along the line you would walk and talk on this subject ! I feel i know how you roll a little with watching and listening to you for quite a while now ! You did surprise me seeing you go back on your decision to stop drinking as you are in my eyes a strong willed person and when you make a decision that is it kind of guy! However, its easy to sit here and judge when what do i know i'm just a woman in her 60's, ha! I believe in you Rick, and i'm sure all will be well !! Take good care. 🙏.
Rick, it seems to to me you are very much in control of your situation, a drink in moderation is fine, I have worked with alcoholics, and sadly seen some of them pass away, they loose everything, when they are drinking, stay in control, like you say you have a wonderful life and partner in Shelly, I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and a very happy and successful new year. Xxxxxxx
Hi ric, you live on an island with bars and restaurants all around you, with sun 🌞 all year round, it's just getting into a routine of cutting back, not drink as much at home and occupie yourself more, good luck
a deep vlog. My hubby stopped drinking years ago as he could not cope with hangovers. The problem then was when we went on holiday to Tenerife he would take a drink, not eat at all for the week due to the hangovers. I would have to go eat on my own everynight .It was not a nice time.. Things are better now as he only has a limit of 3 ciders at night and no drinking during the day. Also we stay HB in hotels and he does breakfast and Dinner.
Good vlog again Rick. Having a drink can become a problem I’ve got into the habit of having 3 or 4 beers after work to unwind. Used to be out every Friday Saturday and Sunday in my local pub as well but only go out a Saturday afternoon now. When on holiday we both drink every night as we think why not we are on holiday. Do you think that beers in Tenerife are dirt cheap can be a factor as well for you? This vlog is making me think long and hard regarding my few beers after work. Definitely became a habit that I want and will change. Have a great Christmas and new year Rick and hopefully see you both in the summer
I think its possible to stay on your position on the slope , but me I went for a bood check last week and had markers for cholesterol and liver thats when its time to reign it in, always get a check up annually, drinking also can be a solution all to easily when things go wrong. Your questioning is a good thing and I do that also nice vid Rick..
Glad you're getting them now rick,I was getting rather paranoid, though I think the youtube interceptors can't handle my acerbic sarcastic wit.i often watch DJ,I do drop the odd comment to near to the bone,I love dj to bits but he sometimes interprets to literally, I'm borderline being blocked, but the amazing thing is I can't leave comments on djs empty tables &chairs vlogs, though I've mentioned that to dj,& he said that's nowt to do with him governor. Lol..
Hey Rick, my past demons have been cigarettes and drugs. Fortunately alcohol was never an issue, mainly because it just puts me to sleep and hangovers are unbearable. Almost everyone I knew were smokers and drug users so this was very much a social thing. I ended up changing my environment and social circles which was very very difficult but ultimately successful. I feel for you...much of your work dictates your environment so if you are serious about cutting down on the booze I guess you know what I suggest you do!
Feels like you've got a unhealthy relationship with alcohol. If you had a healthy relationship with it. You wouldn't be thinking about it at 3.00 and it wouldn't play a part in your life. People when have no issues don't think that,
Or am I thinking about it due to past relationships where Alcohol was the problem? Chicken and egg theory going on here for sure. thanks for getting involved. I appreciate it.
I'm OK with alcohol in my terms. As in if I have a few cans or even pints and just not over do it I'll be OK. If I am say at a wedding and I drink so much I'm badly hangover I do think I need a few to relax. Then I would have them few drinks but next day I'm same position again. That's why I just try have a few drinks at home and just relax. If I'm going anywhere now I just will try my best not to drink
Hi i not had drink for 6 wks was a binge drinker wkends. Feel better as no hangovers. Best iv felt but cant go bars just yet .my hubby still wants me socialise im to minds as i known it be more than couple. Good u no u how u deal with alcohol ricky 😊 i never drank in home only bars or social club wkenks
Rick give yourself a break you like me like a drink not over the top just an enjoyable pint you're never gonna be an alcoholic.. it's a better life having a drink and socialising and guess what... everyone's gonna die
@arround 26.30 the word sobriety shows up and immediately thought about the song “twisted by sobriety” for myself, been at that weird Castle Craig, two times constantly doubting myself. All of us who take a beer, whine, whiskey what not know the slope you are explaining. I am who I am, can stop drinking overnight, can poor liters beer even wodka in me, but there is indeed the slope. My opinion is that if you can see that one is not that bad off. Perhaps a few years, but how many people would you have missed meeting drinking a water or a 7up? That is my opinion
Myself and Shelley both chuckled at this comment Ellie. thanks. Not ready to buy a harley and grow out my hair just yet! As mentioned I am loving life and I am certainly Not questioning my life choices at this moment. I wanted people to see how other people (i.e. Me) see alcohol as this may help me and other people have a relationship with it. Thanks for getting involved and Merry Christmas!
Your very deep at times Rick, You need to forget the past, the golf, the alcoholic ex, the divorce etc, everyone has disappointments in life, that’s a fact!! If you want a drink have a drink, you’re a middle aged man , do what you enjoy mate, life goes too quick!! Merry Christmas to you both 🎅
Everything in moderation, they say, don't mix business with too much pleasure 🙏or the other way around, we all have a little of life's vices. Bald food guy& whitesnake bytes tell a compelling story of alcohol..
You know what's happening, have you thought through what will happen, I MEAN REALLY ,the happy life you have now, destroyed by alcohol, no Shelley, no job, no life you have been there before remember??? Please remember how lucky you are, not only for your self, but your family. Good luck Rick. ❤🙏
Rick,of all the thousands of messages you have received from you're channels apart from the harmful trolls have you got any stand out comments that float around in your memory &can't shake them. Obviously, I'm excluded, lol..
Rick who spread the urban myth about the characters in captain pugwash a programme i watched growing up as a kid,the names of dirty names didn't in fact exist.i should have known better to be less gullible. They reckon sleepy joe didn't run his country?..
For some reason your messages still keep ending up in the "Held" Category and when I do Approve they dissapear from my screen. Apologies Andy. I do see them and do want to reply to all. I remember Cap Pugwash and like all kids never had a clue lol. All the best and keep commenting! Cheers Rick
I never guessed re ex wife. Young men love it. Meet a wife then it tails off then you fight it abit. Thrm you just end up going out every few months. Don’t bother with it now
Hi Rick, Enjoy your videos and the honesty that comes through. Do you think that beers in Tenerife are dirt cheap can be a factor as well for you? This vlog is making me think long and hard regarding my few beers after work. Definitely became a habit that I want and will change. Have a great Christmas and new year Rick and hopefully see you both in the summer
Thats Exactly the way I am Feeling Mike.
Drink should be a reward and not the norm possibly in my opinion.
All the best.
Thanks Steven all the best
Glad you're getting them now rick,I was getting rather paranoid, though I think the youtube interceptors can't handle my acerbic sarcastic wit.i often watch DJ,I do drop the odd comment to near to the bone,I love dj to bits but he sometimes interprets to literally, I'm borderline being blocked, but the amazing thing is I can't leave comments on djs empty tables &chairs vlogs, though I've mentioned that to dj,& he said that's nowt to do with him governor. Lol..
Got this one Andy. all the best
Hmm.... Tough one that! Thanks Stuart!
Interesting vlog x

rolo finds it interesting lol
@ Rick the bloody seagulls here attack it
Feels like you've got a unhealthy relationship with alcohol.

That is my opinion
interesting analogy Albert. Thanks
That’s the trouble with tenners. Cheap beer time on your hands.
Very familiar problem with ex pats
Not a problem yet, But could be I suppose
Wow , hit the nail
On the head ,,,, chip
Off the old block , well , same age block ,,, see you soon bud
Cheers! .... err OOPS! lol
As a female watching this, I feel there's a touch of mid life crisis going on here too. Is it possible thats the reality and alcohol is the crutch?
Merry Christmas to you both 🎅
Merry Christmas to you also Michael
@@ricktenerife❤
Good video..Just subed.
Thanks and welcome to the Madness lol
Bad man easily led 😂😂😂😂
haha. Where are you going? lol
Thanks so much Emma All the best.
Hi rick
Is being on the bike the same as being on the wagon? 😇
lol
Never said it
Your ok now with drinking the way you talk about drinking. Cos ya seem to know you will stop if it gets out of hand
Rick,of all the thousands of messages you have received from you're channels apart from the harmful trolls have you got any stand out comments that float around in your memory &can't shake them. Obviously, I'm excluded, lol..
I will have to think about that Andy. There might be a vlog right there you know lol. Let me get back to you 👍
Rick who spread the urban myth about the characters in captain pugwash a programme i watched growing up as a kid,the names of dirty names didn't in fact exist.i should have known better to be less gullible.
