Enjoy the Honda ADV 150. I hope to buy the new Honda ADV 160 when I move over to Chiang Mai in November following my retirement. I know it can be dangerous on the roads over there but I have loved riding about in the city and countryside in different parts of Thailand on a scooter. So flexible and easy to park, weave through the traffic on a small bike and cost much less than bigger bike. I have watched your channel for years now and so glad and happy for you that you decided to make the correct choice of moving to Thailand 🇹🇭 Its a wonderful place. All the best Darren and I will be watching all your Thailand videos 😎
Did what you have done in 2003, but am in Taiwan, that was 21 years ago now and still loving it. Bikes are my business and ride an old BMW GSA 1150 & CRF 250L& few scoots. Started following you early on when you started your walking tours in London, funny you follow a similar path to me now….Good Luck with everything!.
Totally agree, never, never, ever hand over your passport. Don't know if you've covered it and I've missed it but definitely get a Thai driving license for motorbikes. When touring you will come across numerous checkpoints and all will have different rules as to what is acceptable as a license e.g your UK one, International DL, Thai DL. If you've got a Thai DL it will just make things easier.
HI Darren Another great video and I am glad to see that you have hired a bike of your choice so you can get around easier. As I have never had a bike I cannot comment on this. Again thank you for sharing.
Hiring bikes ir cars. DJ's advice is off the charts. Always take photos or videos, with the boss, to show what scratches existed before you hire. Or, more basic, sign a form which has an image of the vehicle showing where bumps and bruises Exist👍
You’ll enjoy that. Im a country girl, so I’d be out of place in a city like that. Very busy. I can see the appeal… we all like different things. I wonder if people go there to be outside the city in country areas and what that’s like, is it doable etc. be careful traveling on your bike. Thanks for The video!
Always great to see a new vlog DJ, keep them coming. Please try to remember to do this trip........The Chiang Mai Mae Hong Son loop. You would love this being a biker, you can go there one way and return from the loop the other way, wicked. There is a motorcycle/ bikers pub and club in Chiang Mai also, cheers, enjoy.
i just bought the 160 adv as i didnt want the hassel of it not being mine... when i tour up north ill hire a big one for a couple of weeks...i rode past your place i was offered one to buy but felt it was i bit far out . i ride a 1200 triumph at home but the scooter us far better out here ... great vids ride safe
Been watching your videos on your recent move with interest. I've travelled to Thailand since the late 90's and lived in Bangkok 6-7yrs more recently. Like you I rode big bikes previously and figured I'd get one, but in BKK soon came to the realisation a smaller bike is much more usable. I ended up buying a Zoomer-X which I used as a runaround on a daily basis. I was about to upgrade to an Aerox when I left. I can see the attraction of a big bike on longer trips but always used an air conditioned car which is definitely more comfortable and much safer on Thai roads. Good Luck whatever you decide.
Hi darren glad u got your wheels 😊 arrr will u be going any memorial s for 26th Dec so many lost lifes over there after the disaster 😢 . Take care n enjoy your bike journeys 😊
Please stay safe fella, when I visited my brother who lives in Chanthaburi I noticed that traffic did not make way for Blue Light vehicles, they just stayed in the queue with everyone else.
Forget anything about what should happen on the roads ,, drive / ride 110% defensively for your life ,, NEVER assume anything ,, you have to think for them
Just as I thought with encouraging foresight..whatevers...scooters are perfect in that location, well done Ducati...no but some Piaggio scooter jobs can book anyhow heavy is out mate. Easy airy light. 98 and raining, thrilled your there
Omg. We are all gonna worry about you now, especially on a Bike! I've been to Thailand and know what the roads are like but at least it's not a speed demon but, fast enough. Be safe Brother. 🙏
Your Thailand videos are bringing in some decent views DJ! My only advice would be if you turned these into more daily vlogs (as you’re posting daily anyway) showing things you’re up to throughout the day rather than just one subject matter video you might have more success, it’s also something I’d love to watch myself as somebody who’s thinking of moving out to Pattaya
Hi i used to rent from Soi 13/4 beach road end, so many Bikes parked inside the small Soi, I’m not sure if still there, but they had a HUGE Selection of bikes.
Nice and nippy for about town. The Honda CB500X would be great for touring around though in the future. No point paying for what you don't need. Even so its nearly £140 for 2 weeks for the 150cc scoot.
Hi Darren, the wee bike seems to be in good enough nick, it will do until you can get yourself a Ducati. Personally I’m a Honda man, having owned an old CBR600 which I wasn’t that struck on, two brand new CBF1000’s which I loved and a CB1100RS which I recently sold as both my hips are knackered! It’s an itch that you need to scratch huh? Once my hips are fixed I plan on getting another big Honda! Ride safe bud! Remember shiny side up!👍👏👏❤️🏴
If in the future you do make up your mind to stay permanently, you can always bring Daisey or the Harley over on a personal import. I wouldn't mind betting servicing is cheaper too than in the UK.
When i rent a car i show passport and driving licence and my international driving permit which if stopped by police you should show this only cost 5 pound in the uk for 3 years.
Disappointed you didn't go for the little red Vespa DJ 😉 Know what it's like when you ride a bike, it's like somebody has cut off your arm when you're away from it. Ride safely fella.
Is that not a lot no? 6000bht is £138 every 2 weeks? That sounds a lot for London prices? Don’t mean to sound negative just tried to work it out and see what it was? Lovely videos tho and hope all the best in the move and wish I could do it
I think I seen you before on the cradle in London has im a window cleaner for now 40 years maybe wrong, maybe training us or service them, remember cradle run ways. The service company
Ideal for getting about Pattaya but as you said you're going on the road you'll want something with a bit of meat. Good luck as you need eyes in the back of your head on the roads.
🤣🤣 . When in rome ..! They're all TWIST N GO darren so no problems there .. plenty of go for those streets .. and that extra push further out to access other area of interest and foodie stops .. just for you darren .. "when i get my moped out on the road im gonna ride ride ride " .. jasper carrot 🤣👍
Good choice of scooter as like the Hondas PcX & ADV as great economical 150cc bikes….thats all you need really for going around pattaya Jomtien..shopping malls ..supermarkets & to nearby districts & beaches. Make sure always got documentation copy of license & passport as the local cops will always flag the farangs down…esp if no helmet on…🤔👀😎
@DarrenJohn Oops, the comment shows me you are naive. Like renting a motorbike before you buy health insurance. You know the hospital will ask you for payment upfront. Also you not putting on your seatbelt in taxi's? I have been kind up to now but that's dumb. You are paying way over the price for everything. Just a matter of time before a local strips you of everything. You know best I guess. Good luck.
Great video Darren, you might want to look for a bike at the bike auction
Not sure about auctions, as you cant judge a book by its cover Paul

Rentals price for two weeks should be about 4k tops , maybe a bit less
He has a better bike but I just rented a Zoomer 110 cc ? for B1300 a week from Pee Ann Hire on Sukhumvit with Pattaya Thai ..B2000 deposit
?
What I've seen for decades has been 300/350 a day, and around 3500bt a month for scooters like that.
Good tip about getting the owner in the video 👍

What part of Taiwan are you in? I sold up in 2004 😀.
@ Just North of Danshuei, on North Coast Highway, place called Qingshweiwan (Beach Area).
I had a Taiwan girlfriend back in 1998 for 3.5 years and went to Taishung for 10 days, interesting but hated the food (I am a frog!!!).

Ohhh exciting, you can take us all on road trips with you,I know you're a bike expert, but be careful on them crazy roads 😍
Great video and good to see you now have your wheels. Enjoy it.

Had a 1600cc custom harley but it had to go when I went blind in my right eye. those were the days. be lucky DJ excellent video.
Sorry to hear that.

Cannot wait to see what bike you buy
Good craic Darren, it's just not you without your bikes. Glad you got sorted.
Always great to see a new vlog DJ, keep them coming. Please try to remember to do this trip........The Chiang Mai Mae Hong Son loop. Absolutely loving these daily vlogs

I don't know much about bikes, Darren but that wee one looks smashing. It'll get you from A to B. Good music! 👍😀
Intro music reminded me of Banana Splits kids show in the 70s.
ADV150 is a great scoot for Patts. Small enough for the streets but also good for day trips. My weapon of choice. 555
Live and learn..it doesn’t matter how much it costs if you fine with it …be happy🎉
cool bike..just think where you can go now filming allsorts... have a good christmas
He's obviously a popular guy if other customers have been in and snapped up the larger bikes already 👌
Hi i used to rent from Soi 13/4 beach road end, so many Bikes parked inside the small Soi, I’m not sure if still there, but they had a HUGE Selection of bikes.
Daisy Duke forever, unreplaceable 😊
Watch this space - exciting announcement
@@DarrenJohn ok
@@denise-p1cHe's shipping it over
Great content again do you just drive on your uk licence
All explained in the video Alex
@ yes saw just after I messaged 😂😂thanks
Good man Darren.
I know nothing about bikes but I do know about how they can ride / drive in Thailand...please DJ be ultra ultra careful.
It's high season, so you're paying a little extra. That bike is normally 300 baht a day . I like the Nmax .
Nice and nippy for about town. The Honda CB500X would be great for touring around though in the future. No point paying for what you don't need. Even so its nearly £140 for 2 weeks for the 150cc scoot.
Was going to recommend adv 350 for touring great scooter but after experience you've had won't bother lol
😉😉🙏🏼

You could have rented one in jomtien for 3000 baht a month
Prob could’ve one for 2999 baht a bit further out of the city 🤷🥱
Dying to have a go on one of them 3 wheelers that they had in the shop - Yammy Tricity i think, good fun apparently.
What did you do with your bikes back in the UK I’ve watched your videos but not seen anything about them
A special announcement coming soon
@ ❤️
My guess is that he’s shipping them over
@valeriewright8686well may be one of them.
Hi, glad you got your bike Darren, enjoy those winding roads. Have you seen any 🕷️ spiders in Thailand with all the sun and hot temperatures 😊🥹
It actually looks a beauty. ❤️👊👍
Do miss you riding Daisy and your Harley. It is a nice bike for now. Look forward to the vlog where the bike is being ridden. 😊
Wow, you're really on your way now. 👍😘
Enjoy...you made the right choice moving!
Hunger pangs! Great joint
Nice to see ya got a bike mate. Any plans on doing any road trips?
Whatever you do, be safe on that bike 🏍
There's a guy on beach road around the bottom of soi 13 i think who does big bikes, he parked them on the corner.
👍🏼😉🙏🏼
Back on the road again fantastic.
Some solid tips.
If in the future you do make up your mind to stay permanently, you can always bring Daisey or the Harley over on a personal import. I wouldn't mind betting servicing is cheaper too than in the UK.
No he can not .He can bring one load of personal items tax free with a retirement visa but it does not include vehicles.
It is high season now till about March and then not busy for about 6 months
Yup…small bike makes sense in town😉
None of them will ever replace Daisy🥰
Did you not go and check out Mr Dean on beach road , which i suggested...?
More expensive
Things are moving fast Darren👍
What are your plans for Xmas and new year?
Nice one. You never know the helmet may come in handy if you are carrying a passenger 😎
You’re a top bloke Darren… love the content. 100k plus subs coming soon I hope.
👍🏼😉🙏🏼
I’d love to see what traffic looks like from your perspective when you’re driving. Is it a free for all, like India?
Now off to DLT to get your Thai license. Cost 700 baht
Pretty reasonable bout a tenner a day nice one D ,not really worth getting anything bigger 😊
You sure splashing the cash and enjoying life mate fair play to you enjoy life you only live once
Nice one DJ!
Ready and mobile DJ, take care on the roads as you’ve probably noticed there are no rules here , especially for bikes!
I missed you saying what you did with your UK bikes, did you manage to sell them.
Special announcement coming soon
My guess is that he’s shipping them over
@@valeriewright8686 No, as he has a 12 month RTN option back to the UK! So that would be pointless.
When i rent a car i show passport and driving licence and my international driving permit which if stopped by police you should show this only cost 5 pound in the uk for 3 years.
Correct
I'm just asking. Would it not be cheaper to ship one out?
Not really, huge taxation
Disappointed you didn't go for the little red Vespa DJ 😉 Know what it's like when you ride a bike, it's like somebody has cut off your arm when you're away from it. Ride safely fella.

Yes he got ripped off, Ive never paid more than 200B a day when ive rented for a week or more.
Not the way to work it out, i could get a cheaper deal for long term rental
DJ that will do for now enjoy the freedom enjoy.alf..
I think I seen you before on the cradle in London has im a window cleaner for now 40 years maybe wrong, maybe training us or service them, remember cradle run ways. The service company
"He likes big bikes and he cannot lie."

good thinking -- don't trust anyone
I've always said it's not the SIZE that counts lol!x

Loving these vids ❤
Glad you like them!
@ well you are changing my mind on Thailand so I’m thinking I need to take a trip out there 👍🏻
You dont need a huge bike in Pattaya, it will be targeted by thieves. You cant nip in and out of the traffic like a runabout.
Trust me, you can
@DarrenJohn Oops, the comment shows me you are naive. Like renting a motorbike before you buy health insurance. You know the hospital will ask you for payment upfront. what bike upset you the most having to sell
Daisy for sure
Careful you don’t wheely with all that raw power Darren😢
Speed bikes pattaya does these bikes for 3700 for two weeks
I will hold you to that
Did you sell youre Ducati mate
To a special place - all will be revealled
Sorry after your other bikes you had then showed us your new wheels I had a little laugh but it's only for couple of weeks 👍🏽
