  • Turning foam into wood is something many prop/haunt makers do all the time. This is my technique for creating a realistic wood texture for you projects using nothing more than high density foam and paint! This is a technique I use in a lot of projects and will refer to this video often on my larger prop builds! Enjoy!

      Glad you found it useful! I just came in from my garage covered from head to tow in fine styrofoam dust as I am working on a styrofoam cannon base and it requires a ton of this! Thanks for watching :)

    Nicely done. I usually use a wood burning tool for the deeper grooves. Then to add a little more depth to the smooth surface of the foamboard, I use an angle grinder and quickly go over the surface. I try not to leave any of the boards perfectly flat. I have a project in mind to do so I'll be sure to video some of it during the build.

      I love all the different routes people take to do things with foam. I know there is 10,000 ways to do things like this, I just figured I would share my version so I don't end up telling people to go watch a specific timestamp in one of my older videos. It also saves people who have their own way of doing the wood in the video have me ramble on about how to do something they already do :). Thanks for watching Pirates of the North Court!

    Great technique! The results are really nice. I would never know it isn’t wood!

      Thanks Jessica! Once you know of it, you will end up using it everywhere. I know I do. Now if this heat wave would end I could get back to finishing the pirate chest this video was taken from! lol. Thanks for watching :)

    That looks so incredibly realistic! Thanks, Samhain! Now, I could kick myself for all of the foam I got rid of last year because I had nowhere to put it.

      I can’t tell you how much foam I keep, It’s one of my favorite mediums. It takes up so much space to store though! My back shed is filled with all different thicknesses and I am always on the hunt for more! Thanks for watching Fraidy zone!

    I’m looking for a way to make the styrofoam skirting around our modular look prettier and it seems that the Halloween crowd has the best ideas for how to make it look like wood or stone when working in bulk.

    • @SamhainPropworks
      @SamhainPropworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Chelsea, You could do these things but the skirting is very much exposed to the elements and wear and tear about and beyond what a halloween prop might be. MY suggestion if you want to go this way is to do a rock texture and using grout and foam create a heavy duty cover on styrofoam to create the look you want. If you have a peak at my grave stone videos you will see me do something similar with with acrylic grout to what I am talking about. Thanks for watching!

    Great video, I do have a request though. Could you provide a list of materials and where to purchase.

      I usually just give general suggestions where to find things, as every country has different stores. The XPS foam can be purchased at any home improvement store, the paint is any acrylic paint you can get your hands on, in the colours you want the wood to be. :). Thanks for watching!

    I've been obsessively watching your videos lately, they're so nicely done and make me want to try out prop making SO badly! However...your voice reminds me of Sean Astin and you can't convince me that Samwise isn't trying to teach me to recreate the Shire.

    • @SamhainPropworks
      @SamhainPropworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think there is a bigger compliment than sounding like Samwise :) I think re-creating the shire would be amazing, and I know that is one prop my wife would love! lol. Thanks for watching and I'm glad you are enjoying the tutorials!

    Well done! I am going to give this a go. Wondering how you made your realistic knots? Thank you!

    • @SamhainPropworks
      @SamhainPropworks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used a 2 passes with a knife to do long sweeping v cuts, and just kinda drew the knots that way. Mostly freehand and just doing what looks good 😀 Thanks for watching!

    Hi, where do you get the foam from??? I am looking to do faux beams in my home.

    • @SamhainPropworks

      This is XPS foam and you can buy it in large sheets from any Home Improvement store. Thanks for watching Authenticmotherhood!
