    A few years ago, I made a ring of stones out of foam, then filled the center with spray foam and orange lights for the embers of a fire under my witch's cauldron... I've been wanting to remake it, and now I can add these to the prop as well! Excellent video! Thank you!

      The fastest way would be to throw some red twinkle lights behind them, although it's not the most believable looking. This LED light strip and controller from Prop & Scenery Lights is much more believable: amzn.to/3PbKiBr

    It’s amazing how a white dry-brush layer brings it to “life!” It looks really great! I’m always intimidated doing organic textures, this makes wood texture really doable, so thanks for sharing!
    So... I was interested in your choice of the order of operations - specifically gluing it all together before applying monster mud and paint, why did you decide to glue it first? I’m thinking the hot glue may hold better on naked foam? Would you do anything differently in a 2nd go? Just curious, thanks for all you do!

    • @VanOaksProps
      @VanOaksProps  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You're absolutely correct. Any adhesive is going to bond better when applied to "raw" surfaces. As for doing things differently, I'd have used Gorilla Glue instead of hot glue because my glue gun is at the end of it's life and the glue wasn't really coming out as hot as it should and so I had a few spots detach from one another. I also would have, and still could, carve out the back of my support block to allow for the addition of red twinkle lights to give the look of glowing embers. I may address that in a second video.

    Great project. I was wondering how to make the logs “glow” like in some of those realistic electric fireplaces... maybe if I carve a hole underneath and put some LED lights inside? What do you guys think!!? Thanks in advance. Greetings from Colombia 🇨🇴

    Love the way this one turned out! But man, looks super messy when carving....though I suppose the best projects usually are a bit messy.
    I noticed you're using the traditional plug-in glue gun - I recently switched to a battery-operated version (18v from Ryobi). The recharable battery makes it a bit heavier, but I really enjoy not being bound by the cord. I saw K&T Halloween using one and had to get one for myself. Might make your propbuilding just a bit easier!

      Sometimes you need something to fit a specific project and organic objects may not work. Or maybe you want to use the same parts year after year and want to know they’ll fit. Maybe you don’t have access to wood without having to purchase more than you need, etc. There’s tons of reasons, so I just figured I’d share how to accomplish it. 👍🏻
