love the deck idea. it that betrays is pretty good as well since you get to steal whatever your opponents sacrifice same for tutors like vamp tutor and worldly tutors
Thanks! Thats what i was going for, most relevant interactions and trying to keep it concise. It gets really easy to ramble when talking about it deck building. Also most people like to customize there decks a bit, so this video leaves people space to do that if they want to build the deck.
Yeah they look cool. When I filmed I wasn't sure if they would be doing the cycle, since most of them are dead in the story. But hey we got a whole new cycle.
So idk about as a commander himself, but I'm EXTREMELY excited to put him and the dragon queen into my Ur-Dragon deck. I don't think dragon tribal really needed much help before this and now it's stronger than ever with cards like them and more good beaters like Palladia-Mors, the Ruiner. Only a month ago I was complaining that Nicol Bolas is the only OG elder dragon to get new art, and here we are with new versions of all 5 that are super interesting and I love it!
I don't know how I feel about this commander's ability. One the one hand, you can get rid of your opponents'best cards. On the other hand, the top card of their library might be amazing. Lantern of insight was defiantly a good suggestion!
Yeah that element of randomness will make it fun, but it might also hand the game to your opponent. Most of the time it should work out though, when you consider that most commander decks are almost 50% mana and mana ramp, your chances of hitting something inert are pretty good.
When I first saw this guy, I knew I had to throw him in my Ur-Dragon deck. A 5 mana multi chaos warp every turn? Sac your own land for something more powerful? Sounds good to me. Although it's not the most ideal way of using him, I've had success with Wasitora in the past, and I am looking forward to running another creature with a similar effect. Anyways, awesome and informative video dude!
I could be wrong, but my gut feeling is without lantern for a specific deck that the attack trigger will be 50-60% good. There's even more variability with more spell heavy decks, but they are more rare in commander. The chaos abilities should in general be great against combos and annoying permanents. On the whole, the deck seems really fun and I look forward to watching some matches with it.
Yeah I agree with that analysis. The normal deck is usually about 45-50% mana and ramp then atleast another 10% of cards that are spells or just aren't that scary. I cant wait to try it out. I think it will be fun...at least until we hit that 40% and start flipping titans eldrazis and avacyns.
Everyone's so excited about Volrath's Stronghold, but did you ask forget about Haunted Crossroads!? Insanely OP in this deck compared to Volrath's Stronghold!
been having some intresting games with vaevictus people often scoop if you can get him out with fast mana, and slamming a vaevictus trigger into a worldly tutor for void winnower seems to win games
Lol yeah that would do it. Void Winnower is a beating. It drives me crazy because whenever it comes down I'm Usually sitting on a bunch of 4 mana wraths that do nothing.
Yeah that could be really interesting. Though I would be more nervous about flipping your opponents into something good since no one is going to have mana at that point. But the "I have something bigger than you, and I'm blowing up all the lands" strategy is usually pretty effective.
Put stuff like Riddle of Lightning into the deck. A card that lets you scry for 2 or more while doing something else is great value for Vaevictis, and RoL is one of the best examples as it lets you do 8+ damage while filtering right into something you can bring out. I love this dragon, he turns topdecks into combat tricks and opens up so many new avenues for deck design.
Oh man I want Riddle of of Lightning to be good, but I think its just too risky at 5 mana. For every time you hit an 8 drop, there will be a time where you hit 2 lands and a sol ring...just too risky for my liking. If it was 4CMC it would at least be a cool sunforger target. Vaevictus is cool though, I'm going to put the decklist together sometime this week....see what interesting things come up.
Commander Replay This deck is one of the only times you can get away with running Riddle since you'll have plenty of other stacking options to make it more reliable. Drop it after finding a nice expensive artifact or creature with Top or Scroll Rack and use the scry to get the irrelevant cards to the bottom of your library and set up Vaevictis for your next turn.
This is by far the Commander i'm looking most forward too out of M19. His effect is fun and powerful, whilst also being fair. He allows you to build a deck that will work well around him, but isn't narrow to limit what you can play in him and isn't overly oppressive to opponents, I love him!
Yeah he looks really sweet, he was also the first one spoiled other than Bolas I believe. So when I filmed this one I wasn't sure if they were going to do the cycle because as I understood all of them but Vaevictis were confirmed dead in the story. Vaevictis existence was unknown (I talked about this in the deleted section featuring chromium, but decided I didn't want to get myself in trouble with the Vorthos community if I was off on something)
Yeah, I thought that they would do the whole cycle when I saw Bolas and Vaevictis. I never really thought that M sets as 'flavor' sets so I didn't think it would affect what cards they printed, but i'm super glad they did. All of the EDs have unique and fun abilities. The old ones were a fun build around but didn't really have the same flair that some of the newer legends have, but they really did a good job on these ones I feel. Especially Bolas, Vaevictis and Arcades.
Old Chromium was one of my favorite cards, its a huge metal dragon! But the rampage ability is almost completely useless, especially on a flyer. Gotta love the absolute lack of play testing that the Legends design team did. 2 Color 7 mana vanilla legends, yay! in the same set as mana drain and invoke prejudice. Anyone the new ones are exciting, I wish they were all 7/7s though. It gives them that really big feel, but I understand that they want them to be at least fringe playable in standard.
Its a hard to pick one. The dragons are exciting, and I definitely plan to pick up a crucible or 2 once the prices level out. But if I really had to pick one I'm excited about that red spell that lets cast from the top of your library and adds a bunch of mana. I think that will be a commander staple of mono red decks.
Volrath's stronghold is also great in this deck, if you have a big beater in the graveyard then just stronghold it to the top of your deck and then attack pulling the card off the top.
Ooo great thinking! I will add that to the description. Its unfortunate that TH-cam doesn't let you go back and edit the video after you upload...would be nice for situations like this.
Can you target top with the sac effect, and while maintaining priority, tap top to put it on top of your library and draw a card? That way everyone is sacking a permanent except you
I believe that would fizzle the trigger, or at least part of it since the permanent is no longer in play. I don't think it would work the way you want it to. Nice suggestion though.
Commander Replay. Would it fizzle all the targets if that one was no longer valid? If so you could use targeted removal on whatever card one of your opponent permanents is being triggered to fizzle the entire effect and protect your own stuff? I'm not saying this well. Ability goes on the stack. Dragon targets an opponents cabal coffers for example. If you strip mine'd the coffers in response, would the whole trigger fizzle, protecting your permanent that was targeted?
Sorry to hear that. Your next best bet is probably to try and engage your group in a discussion, that at least once in a while you'd like to play a more casual game of commander. Try to focus on the new deck building possibilities that will be open to the entire group, and shift the focus away from the fact that they cant play their highly tuned decks. Also this works well in relationship communication too, but it applies here. Focus on how it would you make you happy/excited to be able to try out some new decks without being absolutely crushed. That's about the best Ive got. Many of the decks I run on the channel are actually a little bit too weak for a good portion of my local meta as well, so Ive been working to tune up some of my decks to catch up with everyone else, but there are some people playing casual as well, so I get a reasonable mix. Best of luck!
Yeah it will be really good in this deck. Some others have suggested it too, I put it in the description. Sadly no way to edit the video after the fact. Great suggestion though.
Yeah, you can that about almost every commander though! Helm will be sweet, but I'm not really sure its even necessary since theres already so much syngery.
heee is the most ridicules combo i have done i have playes my ur dragon deck with asmadie + lathlis and ramos now what happend i make a full swing first asmadie trigger sacrifice a token from lathlis get atarka world ender lathlis is on the stack which means i get a token and then ur dragon which activate karthus tyrant of jund when he comes in to play i take control over all dragon including my opponents ramos dragon deck entire board with asmadie then the second strike thanks to atarka and another asmaddie trigger sack the dragon token for i guess i wous a bladewing the awaken which abillity was on stack which has revie scalelord ravenger then urdragon triggers again and i get to draw 7 more card and draw into hellkite charger then charger effekt another combat and gg
ps asmadi + ur dragon is completly stupid because both triggger are before damage not after damage unlike gisharth or such so you can stack both little hint first asmadie then ur is bettet then ussaly you play horn in ur dragon because cost reduction so you can realy manipulitalte the top alitlly bit and just saying i love asmadie but bolas is sweet manly because of the legandary revival effekt from any graveyard which is stupid and i dont know why is so fucking op
This card can be the Jund Lands matter deck. He is also very political sense you can help someone in the game if they are fare behind. P.s. This Card would be amazing in the deck. Oh Yeah I missed it in the video, but yeah It That Betrays is going to be amazing in this deck. Some others have mentioned it as well, so I included it in the description. Great suggestion.
Yeah that one will be great. I didn't catch that one when I made the video, but I wrote it in the description based on some people that have suggested it.
Truth be told none of the commanders really stuck out to me in C19, really expensive dragons with cool abilities has always been my friends thing so ehh
I can understand that. I get excited by large flying creatures. I generally prefer aerial combat while the peasants fight it out on the ground. I kind of wish they were all 7/7s but that means they'd have to be costed in a way where they aren't standard playable, and it looks like they tried to push them enough to maybe have some fringe standard play. But yeah your friend might get more out of this set than you, but you might get more out of the next set, its all just play style preferences.
Yeah will need to be selective about which cards go into those slots. LIke maybe we leave behind Butcher of Malakir for the other 2 Grave pact effects. But that's also where my commentary about more ramp spells come in. I don't envision this being a fast deck, so we will want to slow the game down and have lots of late game punch.
Nice lantern, top, and rack you got there. 1:56
love the deck idea. it that betrays is pretty good as well since you get to steal whatever your opponents sacrifice same for tutors like vamp tutor and worldly tutors
Ooo lets call that a miss on the video. I forgot all about It that betrays...great card for this deck.
I love this style of primer video. Short, shows the most relevant cards with a few different packages to build around. Great stuff!
Thanks! Thats what i was going for, most relevant interactions and trying to keep it concise. It gets really easy to ramble when talking about it deck building. Also most people like to customize there decks a bit, so this video leaves people space to do that if they want to build the deck.
I'm so excited for the other commander builds from the elder dragons as well!

I would also consider decree of annihilation for the cycle ability once you have a better board state
Yeah that could be really interesting. Though I would be more nervous about flipping your opponents into something good since no one is going to have mana at that point. But the "I have something bigger than you, and I'm blowing up all the lands" strategy is usually pretty effective.

What's your favorite card from m19 so far? I'm so pumped for scapeshift & crucible reprints. New Bolas is also sweet, N.Bolas tribal?
Its a hard to pick one. The dragons are exciting, and I definitely plan to pick up a crucible or 2 once the prices level out. I wish I could play stuff like this in my playgroup
Playgroup too strong? Do you have the ability to find more people to play with? I live in a big city so its easy, but that depends a lot on location.
Commander Replay no we live in a small town far away from pretty much everyone else
Sorry to hear that. Your next best bet is probably to try and engage your group in a discussion, that at least once in a while you'd like to play a more casual game of commander. Just enough randomness to the card to make it exciting like Gonti. Diversity of experience is what we want in Commander right?
It's really high on the mana curve, but It That Betrays could do some work in this deck
Yeah it will be really good in this deck. Some others have suggested it too, I put it in the description. Sadly no way to edit the video after the fact. Great suggestion though.
Commander Replay. This is going to be a busted set. So many good cards and a lot of tasty new commanders.
Time to throw in helm of the host
Yeah, you can that about almost every commander though! Helm will be sweet, but I'm not really sure its even necessary since theres already so much syngery.
it that betrays plus asmadie is gg
Yeah looks super sweet, a few people have suggested it. I will definitely be including that in the build. Hope to have a video out next week.

I use him with trove of temptation :p just sacrifice those respawning treasure artifacts
Hmmmm interesting. Not sure how to feel about trove.
It that betrays
Oh yeah I added that by the time I did the EDH lounge episode. Forgot it the first time though.
This card can be the Jund Lands matter deck. He is also very political sense you can help someone in the game if they are fare behind.
P.s. This Card would be amazing in the deck.
Card Name: It That Betrays
Mana Cost: 12
Types: Creature - Eldrazi
Card Text: Annihilator 2 (Whenever this creature attacks, defending player sacrifices two permanents.)
Whenever an opponent sacrifices a nontoken permanent, put that card onto the battlefield under your control.
P/T: 11 / 11
Oh Yeah I missed it in the video, but yeah It That Betrays is going to be amazing in this deck. Some others have mentioned it as well, so I included it in the description. Great suggestion.
Thank you ^^ what do you think if Omnath, Locus of Rage and The Gitrog Monster with a Crucible of Worlds. This way you just toss your lands for Value.
what about it that betrays
Yeah that one will be great. I didn't catch that one when I made the video, but I wrote it in the description based on some people that have suggested it.
Two words "Primal Surge"
Oo good thinking. That does require a very specific deck building path, but I think it would work well.
Litteraly just built this deck with wasitora
It should be an easy switch over then :) You can keep both with the deck and then pick the one that you are feeling most in that moment.
Truth be told none of the commanders really stuck out to me in C19, really expensive dragons with cool abilities has always been my friends thing so ehh

Commander Replay honestly I'm not quite a fan of how the elder dragons feel powerful but nicky b feels the strongest by far
Shatter gang brothers
Interesting hadn't thought about them.
So far this deck will have an average CMC of 5+
Yeah will need to be selective about which cards go into those slots. LIke maybe we leave behind Butcher of Malakir for the other 2 Grave pact effects.
