The Chevy dealer wanted $202 to replace the gas tank door. The part was $32, and $170 was the labor cost. Thank you for the video. We shouldn't have this problem based on the price that we pay for these trucks.
Bro what! That’s a crazy price. I just bought mine for like $20 and installed myself. What kind of Silverado do you have?? Sounds like they bent you over
This also happened on my 2020 Chevy Silverado. I just started flapping open one day. I’m not sure how the spring broke, but this is a great video to show how to fix it. Thank you!
6:26 September 12-2024 Hey Man Thank you so much for posting this video! Last weekend I was out of town and topped off the night before I was going head home and saw the hinge was broken. I secured it for the moment with Velcro but was puzzled about how the thing just failed. But I found your video thankfully. I have to leave town again so I called the parts department at the dealership near my house, they had it in stock for only $35… just remember to have your vin# handy to ensure the right part. I just got home with the part & within 5 minutes I had it installed. Thanks again!
I have the same problem right now …I got under the truck put my hand behind the housing. I could feel the spring was loose. now that I know how to remove it hoping I can just reconnect it but I doubt it. Thanks so much big help..
it's much easier if you can stick a small item like a small flat head or even credit card along the edge of the rubber seal where it meets the truck's metal body. it pops right out without breaking the clips.
That worked. Slid an old card behind it that I don’t use anymore then used a flathead in between the card and seal so didn’t scratch anything. Worked like a charm! Thanks!
installing mine now while watching your video. thanks. price was $20.72 with shipping for a 2lb shoe box size package of $43.14 for a total of $63.86. glad i may be an easy fix but why would a company charge double cost of product for shipping? kind of sad
How is your new one holding up since you installed it? I have same issue on my 2020 Chev Silv 1500 5.3L. I'm debating whether or not to buy a new one if its just going to do the exact same thing as the old one after 2 -3 years. Was going to ask how long yours has been installed and is it staying closed?
It just boggles my mind that this has been an issue for not just one but several years of Silverado. How f***ing incompetent are the engineers and anyone else involved that they can't figure out how to keep a gas tank lid closed????
This guy is not accurate. To release the top tabs, you insert a flat head screwdriver in the top slots on top of the housing. That pushes the tabs down. Since these slots are not open, you need to use some force to get the screwdriver in.
