I liked the Mimic part of the Annual, but it also makes me sad. THIS is what we should be getting from the current Diamond Cutters along with Whisper adjusting to working with a team again, not being constantly hit with contrived reasons to not get anything done along with forced drama and Whisper crying and needing hugs for the umpteenth time. Hopefully Ian will give us just that when he comes back to writing after Evan's controversial time as a writer.
Too good, lot to get into leading up to milestone 75 race to the finish for sure, Knuckles is back, Team Sonic back together, Surge & Kit lot to improve as heroes, Mimic story is something.
I find it kind of funny how this somehow gave slight spoilers about what will happen in the mainline issues, Kit will apparently sabotage Surge's plans just to continue acting like a hero (which I liked in a way where he's acting more autonomously instead of just blindly following Surge's orders). Knuckles' story was the one I enjoyed the most, mainly because of the art and the monologue and man, I love this calmer and more relaxing vibe of stories like this, I like a good story full of action and cool moments but a break to breathe is also good and Knuckles' story shows this well (not to mention that Adam Bryce Thomas cooked with these pages, just look at that art and symbolism!) The music from Big's store in Frontiers also gave a good vibe, now Mimic's story was something I liked and had been missing for a while with that vibe that the issues had at the beginning like "we're exploring Sonic's world and it's fun! look at how many things and events happened and happen simultaneously and the that can be worked on in the future!" and I liked this development of Mimic, deep down he must feel bad for betraying those who accepted him willingly but he probably won't go back on his path, I just don't know if I understood the last page correctly, when he says "who are you?" was it like a breaking of the fourth wall and is he talking to the reader (in this case, us) or did someone approach him by surprise? This last option crossed my mind as a plot twist and a good cliffhanger lol
I think he's talking to himself He's trying so hard to be the bad version of himself that he believes is his true self, rejecting his vulnerability, but when his mind confronts him about it, he gets confused as to why that version of him is still there
He said it himself, that we all have a void, that we all hide behind a mask, a mirror, or a porcelain facade. When we take off the mask, spread the cracks in the mirror to break it, or shatter the porcelain, we realize that subconsciously the version we try to hide might be the true self, and that the version we put on for show is just a charade, a facade, we put on a brave face, but are afraid on the inside, a good person lending help, only to be bad. So, who are you? What version of you is the painting on the canvas? Is it real, or subconsciously fake?
I agree with the others that I think he’s talking to himself or perhaps he’s talking to his conscience , because as much as he wants to pretend it doesn’t exist, it seems like his guilt will keep coming back to haunt him over what he’s done. The impression I get is that mimic has worked so hard to separate himself from his compassion that he tries to view it as a separate person, so he gets afraid whenever it begins to reassert itself because it forces him to confront his regrets. I think there’s irony in the fact that Mimic claims everyone else is fake and he’s the only person that’s honest with who they are, when in truth he’s lying to himself and trying to deny how he truly feels. Assuming this is explored further I’d find it really interesting to see Mimic’s arc ending with him having to accept that he does truly feel remorse and subsequently having a breakdown over everything he’s done.
Ok, so Mimic is 100% a sociopath with detachment and camera pressure who can't show weakness & get offended at getting affection... ...The reason why he was so eager to play _The Phantom Rider,_ & Surge **he loves the drama** ...and a bad habit of leaving other teams **in the cold,** which is why Whisper went from Silver & Tangle optimistic scout *_*ROCKET*_* to a lone wolf like Sniper Wolf(MGS) or Leo Whitefang (Guilty Gear) levels of Survivor's Guilt. It's been Generations since we saw "Whisper The Wolf Scout/Recon"
It’s sadder now that she constantly whispers and is more reclusive when she was just like Tangle. Imagine if she was still that when meeting Tangle, they'd be like Latie n Sadie from Total Drama.
@@ADJackD As far as I am concerned... **None of the Diamond Cutters are free from guilt, including Silver** No wonder they get along together... **They have Dreams of Absolution**

Here's my comments!: Hero's calling: Yep, this takes place after Issue 75, or at least I think. Happy to know that Surge and Kit will be trying to be heroes! Even though it's more for recognition. Also, i don't like that Kit thinks Tails is a liar, when he clearly isn't! Truth is... *Kit can't handle the truth!* For my destiny: It's just Knuckles talking, that's it. It's just Knuckles talking Also... *ISSUE 80 CONFIRMED?!* *SHATTERED DIAMOND:* So this is Mimic's story, huh? I feel strangely identified... Also, I actually found some things to comment on!: 11:24 Not every day you see an Egg pawn eating a chocolate. 11:44 *Giygas* 11:57 Pre-massacre Whisper is SO CUTE! *AND SHE HAS THE STAR EYES LIKE TANGLE!!!* 14:17 Revolver Ocelot! 18:00 Mimic has to feel some guilt about this... 20:50 *MIMIC BROKE THE 4TH WALL!!!!!!*
The Surge and kit story is good and all but the reason they worked with clutch to begin with is information on their past. I hope we get that before rider's arc ends.
Agreed. It honestly just seems weird that something that should mean a big deal for a character just ends up getting tossed out like it was nothing. Heck, even in the story currently, you'd think it would have been atleast a bigger source of internal conflict before making the decision to just go up to Clutch and telling him they quit outright.
Clutch likely lied about Surge and Kit's past. As he's a shady businessman, he's obviously going to pull some loophole of "everything he knows" about the pair being "i dont know anything so there you go lmao". Or, as the trust between them right now is shaken, he probably won't say anything and just try to dispose of the two.
Not sure if it's my fav from the annual, but it definitely gave much needed perspective on mimic, which is a character I generally did not care for 10mins ago
Yeah, mimic betrayed Whisper and her team and no wonder Whisper wanted to get revenge on him for the betrayal and breaking her trust! She wanted to kill him but Tangle stopped her saying that Whisper would regret that decision for the rest of her life so the solution is to have Tails imprisoning Mimic in his test chamber at his workshop so he cannot hurt anyone again.
Imagine finding out that the reason why your teammate betrayed you and the rest of your squad was because your praise and attempts to make them feel like they were an appreciated member of the group, made them feel so uncomfortable that they choose to double cross and wipe you all out just to make that "icky feeling" go away.
11:56 Whisper met Mimic, he uses to be a Diamond Cutters with her friends. But now, Mimic betrayed his teams, and... I don't know what to do, her best buddies were gone by Android Shadow. And Whisper thought her life was over, but she never up. She got trained, get a new Wispons for the Wisp. She uses to work alone, but now... Whisper has new friend Tangle and Sonic.
It would be nice if Surge and Kit became heroes like Sonic and Tails. The whole story was exciting, I finally got to see the original story of Diamond Cutters. On the cover of issue 76, we wonder what Mimic's fate will be in the end. I am mostly interested in the story of issue 76, as it is the conclusion of the Phantom Arc.
@@RobertJames-i8jI wonder what the name of the new arc will be. As I imagine: Team Dark, Gemerl, Vanilla, Rough, Tumble appear. When opening, the focus will be on Restoration, as shown in number 76.
Soooo it looks like Surge and Kit DO in fact stay at the restoration after Issue 75, which means they got forgiven about working with Clutch I’m guessing I assumed they’d leave again to do their own thing lol
I hope there's some kind of understanding with it. They only agreed because Clutch apparently knows the truth about them. Hopefully that's explained or revealed.
@@SonicBoss1991 Also my prediction about something happening to HQ is true! Surge said “Sonic had to carry people out of there” Meaning maybe the ship crashed or was about to!
I don't know how long they can stay there if their still planning on destroying Sonic and Tails though. And they ain't exactly...subtle with executing their intentions.
Great comic starline still kind of has a hold on surge and kit still which is kind of sad wonder if anything about their past is going to show up in future comics sonic, tails and Amy are really good friends when it came to knuckles and it was interesting to see mimics backstory can’t wait for the next one 🥰❤️
Though I like that surge is trying to be a hero despite hating sonic, i dislike that kit intends to start trouble just to make surge look good. I suspect surge will eventually catch on though
This annual has a lot to digest. I do like seeing surge's and kit's dynamic. About them trying to be their own heroes and I do like Kit's dialogue hinting that he could be the big bad feeling. I like Knuckles' chapter when he is expressing gratitude with his life and with his friends how the Master Emerald is a part of him and his friends are a part of him also that makes him who he is. And finally my most favorite part is the one with Mimic. We see him expect story about how he became an actor and seeing other people who were so if he is hiding behind a mask and embracing who he is deep down or choosing who he is. And this breaks me to see that he betrayed people who let him in. And Whisper who is so happy upbeat is really adorable and sing the change from what we've seen so far is devastating. And not gonna lie though that chapter is a little bit chilling since he almost caught Whisper lacking. And it's really interesting to see inside of his psychology of what is going on around him and how he feels about things. He's choosing to embrace the mask and choosing to become selfish and arrogant. And I feel like this is really deep with a character who is a villain. I still hate him for how he literally led his friends to their own demise and how he literally traumatized Whisper. It's less about him trying to embrace who he is and choosing to be selfish and arrogant When he could have chose not to be. He had a choice but he is covering up his excuses by being cold and blaming everyone else and even trying to shift blame to the reader itself asking us "who are we?" I think he could probably be some type of sociopath in my opinion. The annual is very cool and Mimic still sucks as a person. Whisper deserves all the love and respect.
Whisper looked so happy and optimistic back then before the truma And her eyes looked normal ( I don’t know much about whisper, but I still remember that she was part of the diamond cutters. Well, the original group, not the current one.)
Oh kits going to cause problems for surges heroism.. i can see this leaning into a temporarily fallout when surge realizes whats happens and will lead into kits character development
I have a feeling mimic is gonna betray clutch once hes about to lose, like how he betrayed the diamond cutters, the bad guys, eggman, yall get what im saying?
76 is Shattered pieces, 80 will be out in 2025, Knuckles returns love it, race to the finish 75 double length, Surge & Kit still playing heroes yet again like in the phantom riders arc, but exposing the phantom rider in 73 as Sonic, since Sonic’s secret identity as the phantom rider is no more, they have to stop clean sweep Inc at all costs & Clutch & Mimic as well.
So what we’ve learned -mimic may have had feelings but is still a huge piece of garbage who needs to be taken out (he’s also a failed theater kid which is hilarious) -whisper was more like tangle being bubbly and excitable before her team died and she was the one that brought mimic into the fold which explains more of her guilt -Surge and Kit are becoming ‘heroes’ for purely self serving reasons, surge for the recognition and Kit is finally becoming the murderous sociopath we all knew he was to keep surge reliant on him and they still both want the bros dead, so definitely no actual redemption anytime soon, they’re definitely becoming the tools Starline made them to be -team sonic is still a very wholesome found family (especially in contrast to the glitch siblings) and it’s nice to see a softer side of Knux and hearing his thoughts -Bubsy is canon -something happened in issue 75 and Sonic saved the day as usual (IDW Scheduling issues strike again!)
@@theevinlander6417 His father wasn’t able to spend much time with him because he was too busy achieving world peace, so Scourge killed him. I wouldn’t really consider that a tragedy, just a petty excuse for villainy on Scourge’s part.
@@SuperJamz64 Look, I'm not exactly a Scourge apologist, I just view all perspectives to see the faces behind the mask. I also even like Jules from the comic, but it still remains that Scourge was a small child caught up his father's work and was neglected by his father due to said work, work peace or otherwise. Remember, Scourge was a child viewing all this; this sort of father-son dynamic alone can cause all sorts of hate, resentment and drama, as clearly still seen when Scourge got older. Of course, it's not an excuse for what Scourge did to Jules, however, as should be known, even the very morality of his world was literally inverse to Prime Sonic's world from the start.
There would be a shit ton of yelling coming from Surge and full power while Kit would try his best to defend himself, but also I feel he'd yell in return. Electricity is much stronger than water, so Kit sadly wouldn't stand a chance with his main source of power. As much as I love the little fennec, he doesn't stand a chance.
However, I want to point out that the comic book about Knuckles directly conflicts with what he said in Frontiers. In Frontiers, he clearly says that he is fed up with his role as guardian and that he would like to live while he says the opposite in this comic.
@@SonicBoss1991 Even before Frontiers, he clearly showed that he did not like his role and that he did it reluctantly (Tailstube, the adventures, the 2022 annual link to Frontiers ect...) The comic is good, I really think so, but the idea that he enjoys his duty to guard the master emerald is false.
@@SonicBoss1991 That's why I prefer the original IDW characters. Their story is generally well written and does not have any gaps because they are easy to write. Characters like Sonic are quite tricky because their writing varies

I don’t care if Mimic has identity issues. I don’t care if he survived an Eggman attack! He still chose the route of betrayal and homicide and for that he shall be delivered karma to the highest degree.
I ain't gonna lie, his reason for betraying the squad because they made him feel "icky" when they were trying to make him feel appreciated is SOOOO stereotypically evil it just loops to being hysterical over how pathetically comical it is.
The backstory of Mimic was interesting, showing he is broken inside and carries pain of the past. A villain with a motivation that is understandable somehow is more interesting. But i still hope Whisper kicks his butt at the right time!
Joe Adok on Deviantart came up with an actor character based on Mimic's beta design, called Thespian. Now we get confirmation that Mimic was a thespian, before he turned to the mercenary shtick. I wonder if Ian Flynn is a fan of Joe Adok?
I can't help but question... Would the ideal way of Surge "getting better" be her ending up like a hero like Sonic yet keeping a good chunk of the forced programming to her personality from Starline? Or She searches to undo said programming and returns to her old personality but just returns to her old life before being dragged into her current one because of Starline?
@@Surgefan-140 True. But originally Starline made her want to kill Sonic but couldn't come up with a backstory why. Then when she found out the extent to what Starline did to "make" her, she blamed Sonic and his refusal to take Eggman and Starline out because it allowed her to end up being subjected to everything Starline did to her, thus giving her a reason to want to destroy Sonic.
What Mimic says reminds me of Garfield. He not only admitted he hated cute, but also people who try hard to yern for others, to belong somewhere, or ingratiate themselves (except himself when forced or in a moment of "screw it when there is a reward").
I think that the Metal Virus happening so early on, and everything after that being more grounded wasn’t the best move, but things seem to be kicking up following issue 75.
It's good. HAVE YOU HEARD OF GRABBER ZONE? IT'S A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN READ ALL ARCHIE, FLEETWAY AND IDW COMICS. IT WOULD BE WAY PAST COOL IF A TH-camR WAS THERE
@awesomepixel447 That one had shorter stories, so they had more room to add more, and it was during the virus and covered what happened with certain characters like Jewel and the Chaotix. This one had longer ones and finally gave us the Knuckles content we've been waiting for, even if it was short.
Even if Starline is no longer controlling Surge & Kit, they still aim to replace Sonic & Tails, which is EXACTLY what he wanted them to do.

It’s almost like a poem in a way.
I think he's talking to himself
He's trying so hard to be the bad version of himself that he believes is his true self, rejecting his vulnerability, but when his mind confronts him about it, he gets confused as to why that version of him is still there
He said it himself, that we all have a void, that we all hide behind a mask, a mirror, or a porcelain facade.
@@MrEagleye79 Green Goblin: We all wear masks Spider-Man, but which one is real? The one that hides your face? Or the one that is your face?
3:51 I mean, I don't necessarily agree with Kit's verdict. He thinks Tails was a liar, but he's not a liar! 🙅
I know, that’s the point. He’s delusional. Maybe he’ll be able to learn that’s not the case in the future.
@@SuperJamz64I think not. Kit has a very dark heart. You saw here that he plans to create hazardous scenarios for Surge to be the hero.
Ok, so Mimic is 100% a sociopath with detachment and camera pressure who can't show weakness & get offended at getting affection...
...The reason why he was so eager to play _The Phantom Rider,_ & Surge **he loves the drama**
...and a bad habit of leaving other teams **in the cold,** which is why Whisper went from Silver & Tangle optimistic scout *_*ROCKET*_* to a lone wolf like Sniper Wolf(MGS) or Leo Whitefang (Guilty Gear) levels of Survivor's Guilt.
It's been Generations since we saw "Whisper The Wolf Scout/Recon"
It’s sadder now that she constantly whispers and is more reclusive when she was just like Tangle. Imagine if she was still that when meeting Tangle, they'd be like Latie n Sadie from Total Drama.

**None of the Diamond Cutters are free from guilt, including Silver**

What...um...WHY CAN'T I THINK SOMETHING TO COMMENT ON?!?!?! This is so much to take in! But i'll try my best. Here's my comments!:
Hero's calling: Yep, this takes place after Issue 75, or at least I think. Happy to know that Surge and Kit will be trying to be heroes! Even though it's more for recognition. Also, i don't like that Kit thinks Tails is a liar, when he clearly isn't! Truth is... *Kit can't handle the truth!*
For my destiny: It's just Knuckles talking, that's it. It's just Knuckles talking
Also... *ISSUE 80 CONFIRMED?!*
*SHATTERED DIAMOND:* So this is Mimic's story, huh? I feel strangely identified...
Also, I actually found some things to comment on!:
11:24 Not every day you see an Egg pawn eating a chocolate.
11:44 *Giygas*
11:57 Pre-massacre Whisper is SO CUTE! *AND SHE HAS THE STAR EYES LIKE TANGLE!!!*
14:17 Revolver Ocelot!
18:00 Mimic has to feel some guilt about this...
20:50 *MIMIC BROKE THE 4TH WALL!!!!!!*
Oh Mimic...
Why must you be so relatable.
Hold me, we shall be together in this emptiness we feel...
You and me are two totally different individuals.
My favourite story definitely has to be the mimic one, we finally get a deep dive into the psyche of this deranged octo
Mine is Knuckles’. I can never say no to S3&K nods. I love the Sonic and Knuckles dynamic.
Not sure if it's my fav from the annual, but it definitely gave much needed perspective on mimic, which is a character I generally did not care for 10mins ago
20:33 mimic looks so badass 🐙
Wow, this back story really makes you understand why whisper hates mimic so much.
It is so sad seeing how much Whisper genuinely cared about him, making what happened hit so much harder.
@@SonicBoss1991 Yeah, like the mask he wore, all she saw was a mask, a mask of his true self.

It would be nice if Surge and Kit became heroes like Sonic and Tails.
The whole story was exciting, I finally got to see the original story of Diamond Cutters.
On the cover of issue 76, we wonder what Mimic's fate will be in the end.
I am mostly interested in the story of issue 76, as it is the conclusion of the Phantom Arc.
actually, issue 75 concludes the phantom riders arc and issue 76 is the beginning of a new one
@@RobertJames-i8jI wonder what the name of the new arc will be.

I hope there's some kind of understanding with it. They only agreed because Clutch apparently knows the truth about them. Hopefully that's explained or revealed.

She definitely will, she's smarter than she let's on.
@@SonicBoss1991 kind of hoping she'll be mad at kit for it
6:07 Knuckles still remember his friends back in past.
Awesome stories and foreshadowing the future.
2:37 DBZA reference.
Whisper looked so happy and optimistic back then before the truma
And her eyes looked normal ( I don’t know much about whisper, but I still remember that she was part of the diamond cutters. Well, the original group, not the current one.)
No fear in her eyes.
I liked it a lot but next time they should do a story about the origin of the diamond cutters.
A mini series would be nice 🙂
Oh kits going to cause problems for surges heroism.. i can see this leaning into a temporarily fallout when surge realizes whats happens and will lead into kits character development
Well that Excellented. quickly at the end.
I have a feeling mimic is gonna betray clutch once hes about to lose, like how he betrayed the diamond cutters, the bad guys, eggman, yall get what im saying?
He's done it enough times he will definitely do it again.
That is what he lives for 🤷
all I got one is 1 thing to say... WHERE ARE THE HUMANS???
All dead. Maybe Eggman made them go extinct, Minus himself, during Forces.
No they are there, the comic can’t use them as of rn. It’s dumb, yes, but to be an optimist, we have Maria and Gerald in Shadow gens.
Nowhere near the events seen thus far. That's where.
4:12 Kit...
I like him
Mmic took a Happy Whisper from our lives, we will hate you forever you.....
JESUS CHRIST KIT!
So what we’ve learned
-mimic may have had feelings but is still a huge piece of garbage who needs to be taken out (he’s also a failed theater kid which is hilarious)
-whisper was more like tangle being bubbly and excitable before her team died and she was the one that brought mimic into the fold which explains more of her guilt
-Surge and Kit are becoming ‘heroes’ for purely self serving reasons, surge for the recognition and Kit is finally becoming the murderous sociopath we all knew he was to keep surge reliant on him and they still both want the bros dead, so definitely no actual redemption anytime soon, they’re definitely becoming the tools Starline made them to be
-team sonic is still a very wholesome found family (especially in contrast to the glitch siblings) and it’s nice to see a softer side of Knux and hearing his thoughts
-Bubsy is canon
-something happened in issue 75 and Sonic saved the day as usual (IDW Scheduling issues strike again!)

The difference is that Surge actually has a tragic past and actual morals.
Well, I'd say Scourge's past with his father is pretty tragic. One of the main reasons he was so messed up.
Cant wait for more content!
5:19 Here it comes...
Okay, but if we had some possible fight between Kitsunami and Surge, what do you think it would be like?
There would be a shit ton of yelling coming from Surge and full power while Kit would try his best to defend himself, but also I feel he'd yell in return. I can't help but question...
Would the ideal way of Surge "getting better" be her ending up like a hero like Sonic yet keeping a good chunk of the forced programming to her personality from Starline?
Or
She searches to undo said programming and returns to her old personality but just returns to her old life before being dragged into her current one because of Starline?
@@Roark787 I hope she's able to break through her programming and away from Starline..she deserves closure and freedom
