Wow Mimic is a sad coward he felt the OG Diamond Cutters were his new family but too scared to let it be real. I give him my pity but it be too good for him.
Sweet jesus, Mimic is one hell of a psychotic cocktail. And Whisper introduced him to the Diamond Cutters, oh god her feelings of guilt must be insane.
I mean, she was going to use buzzsaw mode on her wispon to get revenge in the miniseries with her and Tangle.
She brought him aboard, and now it's her duty to get rid of him. Permanently.
Mimic is probably my favorite character in the Sonic series right now. His character and overall backstory in this comic is, in my opinion, really interesting
At least she can face that guilt and pain, unlike a certain purple octopus....
@@aalloy6881 Let's hope Lanolin can too, after she finds out that she wronged literally a third of the Sonic Heroes while favoring that scumbag.
Since that line in issue #71, I knew Kit would go down a dark path. And honestly? As twisted as his plan is I can't help but be fascinated. He seems to be more autonomous (he didn't ask for Surge's approval for his plan) while still having Surge as the center of his entire being. Can't wait to see how things play out
Imagine if Surge turned good and Kitsunami was the one to stay Evil. If they do that it would truly be a shocker. Honestly, Mimic said it best, the two of them are codependent. Simply put, the best way for them to get better is to separate the two of them. What if Surge realizes this after discovering Kitsunami’s plan and chooses to cut ties with him?
@@nightcoreakane2410 I doubt it. He's only happy if Surge is happy, and Surge is legitimately fond of him now. I can't imagine that Surge would be happy if she and who is basically her little brother were on opposite sides.
@@nightcoreakane2410I feel like that would be a good direction and it would be interesting if Kit had some sort of internal crisis when he realizes that he's working against Surge's interests and he just snaps at her, claiming that she's a liar who betrayed him like he believes Sonic and Tails did. Kinda like that old comic of Sonic vs. Tails except with Surge and Kit.
@@nightcoreakane2410 Not gonna lie, I would LOVE to see that. Just imagine how that would mess up Kit. I can even picture him going against Surge, since he’d be so hellbent in believing his way was the correct one he’ll try and force her to go along with his plan, claiming it’s what is best for her. Basically, it’d be the moment where his programming (borderline obsession at this point) reaches its peak.
But knowing the series, Kit will probably just have a mental breakdown and shut down, similar to what happened in issue #50 when Tails defeated him, or in issue #53 when he thought Surge was dead
I mentioned this on another vid too but I've noticed 2 interesting things:
- one of the original 'selfish' bullies who helped to drag Mimic out of the studio was an Opossum, which is interesting considering he's currently in happy kahoots with Clutch.
- Kit said 'only the idiot masses suffer' when coming up with his own plan, but it was stated a little while ago that the one evil that Mimic can't handle and absolutely hates is unecessary civilian casualties, so this makes me wonder... will Mimic end up throwing away his current 'masking' persona, clashing with Kit in the next arc because the fennec's actions go against his own morals? Plus will the others have to help Surge because Kit put her in danger? It would be interesting to see 👀
This annual had a lot to digest 😅
I actually asked that question about Mimic on the Bumblekast. I think he has a severe case of self-loathing and is in complete denial of it and can't accept that people would ever legitimately care about him.
@@onyxodon Some of it is a case of the proverb of how thieves think everyone steals...Then, after Mimic's done things he knows he can't take back, we get an example of what Oscar Wilde meant when he said that tragedies in life are either not getting what you want or *getting what you want*....Coped with his more fearful side by playing parts of heartless opportunists for too long...And lost his happy ending forever.
Anybody else wish the current Diamond Cutters were just as engaging to read about as the original ones? We NEED this kind of fun, gripping writing for them!
Yeah. Lanolin is really annoying and just doesn't make the group fun to read about.
And to think that Whisper went from friends like them to... Lanolin.
@@chillvibes7387- right it’s Lanolin that’s the problem. He says sarcastically
Wow, Surge and Kit are to Sonic and Tails what Venom was to Spiderman, having a sense of morality and honour but wanting to kill only a certain hero
So Surge and Kit try to be heroes, but not for the right reasons. And they still want to get rid of Sonic and Tails. Yeah, Kit has always scared me, and he still does. It’s sweet seeing Knuckles reflect on his life, and the friends he made. Oh, and even a notice to keep in mind for issue 80! We haven’t even gotten past info for 76! As for Mimic, he’s even more twisted than I thought. He got recognition, but couldn’t accept people caring for him. That they would betray him for what he’s done in the past, so he betrayed them first. The guy wears many masks, and not just his only transformation. Also, before Whisper was Whisper, she was a Tangle?! What a twist!
Surge and Kit are still new to the whole hero shtick. In time, and probably during the timeline of Sonic Frontiers, they'll realize that there's more to being a hero than just love and glory.
We're currently on issue #73 and it just mentioned something that happened at Restoration HQ in #75! Talk about foreshadowing!!!
Man, I actually had a theory long ago that Mimic assumed that the Diamond Cutters were using him and would betray him, so he did it first. Crazy that I was sort of right. Also, it might just be me, but it also seems that despite ehat he says about accepting who he is, he also hates himself and thinks he doesn't deserve friendship for the things he's done. I dunno, it'd be nice if that was looked into later. Imagine if he finally gets his redemption turning point after realizing he was wrong about the Diamond Cutters.
Also, Whisper is completely different im the flashback, almost exactly like Tangle. No wonder they're best friends, Whisper probably sees herself in Tangle.
I kind of feel Mimic is irredeemable, I consider murder a no turn back point
Oof! Whisper was the one who recruited Mimic? It's worse than we thought; Whisper probably feels like SHE was responsible for the deaths of her friends! *sigh* Well, at least Mimic's treachery was ACTUALLY unforeseeable.
Not only that, but she used to be like Tangle. This whole story messed her up worse than I thought.
oh my god this was phenomenal. i'm so hyped to get my hands on a physical copy!!!
Number 80, eh? I'm guessing Sonic, Tails and Amy are gonna tell Knuckles about how they took a massive detour into the DC Universe.
@@videogollumer the only question is, which variant of the DC universe is the IDW Sonic series gonna crossover with? The Injustice Universe, the Absolute Power universe, The Arkhamverse, the DC League of Super Pets Universe, the DC Rebirth universe, the DCAU, which is where Batman: The Animated Series took place in, or its own original DC universe?
@@charlottea.cavatica1696 Honestly, I'd say the last three are the only viable options.
I totally knew that Kit was gonna try to find a way to hurt people. He's even more evil than Surge, honestly.
im happy they not being taken down the road of another shadow 2.0. i like it that they're a "3rd force in the equation" following their own interests to the detriment of everyone else
whats that old simpson line that lisa tells burns in the episode he goes broke and starts a recycling plant; "your sill evil and when you try to do good your even more evil"
Bah. Neither of them are evil, but yes, Kit despite how timid he seems on the surface is the potentially nastier of the two. Looks like Surge may have to serve as a moral mentor just as Sonic did for Tails...
I like how Surge and Kit are trying to heal, but their programming is prohibiting them from doing so. They're still extremely misguided despite actively trying to be better.
We go into some detail of Mimic's past and what his motives are.
Past whisper meeting mimic with her open eye and her fully bubbly personality is just adorable but also tragic too
Hm, this Annual came out at a rather bad time, especially with the Current Arc of the Main Story still going on, i feel like it came out way earlier than it was supposed to.
Regardless, this was a very interesting Annual, really seemed to set a lot of things up, i can’t wait to see where it all leads.
Especially with Surge and Kit, i know we’ve been told that there’s currently no plans for them to be anything but Villains, but i honestly don’t know what to call them here,
Also, it seems like Kit really is the most Antagonistic of the Two, i wonder if his little plan could potentially backfire on him? What would happen if he actually tried to go for it and Surge found out?
I agreed with you as soon as issue 75 was footnoted (i don't think that's a real word...)
This is gonna help me for when I eventually do Mimic on my channel in VRChat videos. Now I know his backstory. This is perfect.
This annual clearly was supposed to release later, Surge and Kit’s story takes place AFTER the events of Issue 75 meaning that they do indeed stick around at the Restoration after the Riders arc
And then Knuckles’s story takes place after Issue 80?! That’s far away lol
@@MarioKartGamerDude I thought 🤔 that too should the annual 2024 release later on. Because It's kind of a spoiler in a certain way.
Both mentioning Issue 75 & Issue 80 with not even on those Issues yet just on Issue 73 and going onto Issue 74 this month 30 October.
Lol, Mimic loved the Diamond Cutters just like Squidward loved Krabby Patties
Or more like Ikari Gendo "loved" his son...The two share same phobia and deal with it the same venomous way.
Thanks for the video!
Man, I sense some irony, Kit questions Surges decision to kill eggman implying its short sided because then there will be no heroism cycle to make her receive praise as a hero, so he intends to secretly sabotage Surge to "keep her happy". However I don't think Surge will be happy when she finds out, I bet she'll feel betrayed and controlled just like with Clutch, except worse, by the only person she thought she trusted fully, I do not see this ending well, I can easily see Surge abandoning him in an emptional rage, and Kit going off the deep end and vecomung the true villain, I can easily see it making her rethink her morals and world views
Bro i swear whisper was just an inch of meeting her ending...
5:31 Nine! Did you finally die of starvation, cross dimensions as a ghost, and possess Kit?!
@@videogollumer Perhaps Nine died due to the undoing of the Shaderverse and Kit is the reincarnation of what is left of Nine. Starline’s power is the only thing that holds him back.
The Audience gets to see the big, gaping crack in Mimic's armor before anyone else in the series....Neat.
I don’t care if Mimic has identity issues. I don’t care if he survived an Eggman attack! He still chose the route of betrayal and homicide and for that he shall be delivered karma to the highest degree.
This sounds like a really dumb idea I think someone needs to have an issue #6 pep talk with him and set his crooked mind right. He says he "knows who he his" but that's an entirely different thing than being fine with who you are.
At this point, I think he might end up committing suicide, if IDW can get away with it.
@@videogollumerwhich they can't because we got to keep the little Gen Alphas from seeing the ugly world.

@@hydrocityshark Hehe, ALL of Sonic's friends; except for Tangle, Omega, Charmy, and Big; remind Sonic that there are responsibilities in life. Yes, Lanolin too, even though she's setting an atrociously bad example herself.
@@hydrocityshark I'm not sure if that's true; but even if it is, Sonic also had to constantly remind Knuckles not to fall for Eggman's tricks all the way up to Sonic Advance 2.
@@videogollumer The way I interpret this is that Amy and Tails got to a point that they were close with Sonic for some time before they served as potential mentor figures. Knuckles was connected to the Master Emerald before meeting Sonic and it was his entire character motivation in his debut game. In that sense, he was motivated by a personal duty while Sonic saves the day because it is his choice.
I believe that there’s usually more to Knuckles’ choice of trusting Eggman than surface value. In S3&K, he didn’t know Sonic at the time. In SA1, he was despite to find the chaos emeralds to learn more about his ancestors and got upset when Sonic wouldn’t give him the emeralds that he had. In Sonic X, Knuckles was upset about being sent to earth and Eggman made it out to where Sonic wanted to prevent him from getting back to Angel Island. Sonic advanced 2 is a weird event that I unfortunately cannot justify, but for what it’s worth it was the last time.
THE ART FOR STORY 2 IS PERFECT
So what's the over under on Kitsunami eventually using Surge as a power source for some mad science or weapons array while screaming "This is all for you! You and your own good!"

Hi
So hype for Whispers character arc to progress cause you know there is gonna be an issue where she smile like that in the present after some more character development and you know that when she does it will hit SO HARD.
I... don't think that'll happen unless Smithy, Clair, and Slinger are revealed to be alive. While it would be kinda sweet, there'd no doubt be several complaints about it from fans claiming it's bad writing.
@@videogollumer Why would anyone call that bad writing? Learning to trust and be close to others again and become happy again is what her story is building towards, no?
Like I’m not talking about Whisper going from post mimic back to pre mimic again in a single story arc. Just her, at some point, showing that side coming back and having her, over the course of a handful of other stories, show that side coming back a little more.
@@siffy5340 I'm saying retconning Smithy, Clair, and Slinger as having not actually died against the Shadow Androids would probably be seen as bad writing.

4:42 I'm sorry I'm confused, why does Kit hate Tails again. What did Kit mean by Tails is a liar? I don't get it.
I... think he was referring to when Tails tried diplomacy with him in Issue 50.
So what we’ve learned
-mimic may have had feelings but is still a huge piece of garbage who needs to be taken out (he’s also a failed theater kid which is hilarious)
-whisper was more like tangle being bubbly and excitable before her team died and she was the one that brought mimic into the fold which explains more of her guilt
-Surge and Kit are becoming ‘heroes’ for purely self serving reasons, Surge for the recognition and Kit is finally becoming the murderous sociopath we all knew he was to keep surge reliant on him and they still both want the bros dead, so definitely no actual redemption anytime soon, they’re definitely becoming the tools Starline made them to be
-team sonic is still a very wholesome found family (especially in contrast to the glitch siblings) and it’s nice to see a softer side of Knux and hearing his thoughts
-Bubsy is canon
-something happened in issue 75 and Sonic saved the day as usual (IDW Scheduling issues strike again!)
hhmmm... how did this annual r related to the 74 n 75 issues if they didn't cames out yet
I find it kind of funny how this somehow gave slight spoilers about what will happen in the mainline issues, Kit will apparently sabotage Surge's plans just to continue acting like a hero (which I liked in a way where he's acting more autonomously instead of just blindly following Surge's orders). Knuckles' story was the one I enjoyed the most, mainly because of the art and the monologue and man, I love this calmer and more relaxing vibe of stories like this, I like a good story full of action and cool moments but a break to breathe is also good and Knuckles' story shows this well (not to mention that Adam Bryce Thomas cooked with these pages, just look at that art and symbolism!) By the way the music from Big's store in Frontiers It would also give a good vibe to this moment, now Mimic's story was something I liked and had been missing for a while with that vibe that the issues had at the beginning like "we're exploring Sonic's world and it's fun! look at how many things and events happened and happen simultaneously and the that can be worked on in the future!" and I liked this development of Mimic, deep down he must feel bad for betraying those who accepted him willingly but he probably won't go back on his path, I just don't know if I understood the last page correctly, when he says "who are you?" was it like a breaking of the fourth wall and is he talking to the reader (in this case, us) or did someone approach him by surprise? This last option crossed my mind as a plot twist and a good cliffhanger lol
