  • After fixing the column in the monza we tear back into it including removing the mufflers, removing the carpet, installing some gauges, and attempt to burn through its 13” tires.

    I had a 79 Monza 2+2 hatchback with a 250 cu. Inch V6. My Monza was so light weight in the rear end that the car would want to fishtail above 95 mph , which was scary to say the least. Had many close calls where I nearly lost control of the car due to this problem. I ended up selling my Monza to a girl who had it for only 4 months when she totaled it an accident. Fortunately she was not seriously hurt in the accident. Seeing you work on this 75 Monza brought back memories.

    I converted my 75 to 4-speed manual have a gm 350 HO 345 Hp in it and detroit true trac lsd .Running semi slicks and it is great fun for cheap. The axle holds up well with a summit aluminium rear end cover. Mine is a 2.56 posi version from factory just replaced the lsd because the cones were worn. You are a fantastic mechanic with huge knowledge.
    The monza is great for racing because it weighs not a lot

    I had one but we swapped the engine put a 1969 chevy 302 in that was flipped about 5 times. It had been built and crashed. Not one Calloway vet or GN Buick could touch it in the 8th. Found a 4 core radiator in a Vega that was a quick swap put a 9inch ford rear in it and a 1500 converter. Wish I would have never let it go

      Probably aluminum 5.3 but part of me wants to bore it out so I can keep the 5.7 LITRE badges. Would always take an LS7 donation though.

    I really wish there was more Aftermarket support For the Monza or Opel Mantis because these cars have good engine variety but need more rearend support and Manuel Transmission besides the Stock 4spd, but all in all these are true gems with alot potential. These are Ford Pintos on steroids very cool car period.

    • @travisblack417
      @travisblack417  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The rear end has aftermarket support. The 7.5 is basically identical to the axle in the 3rd and 4th gen camaro and can be built just like they can. There’s not an immediate need for a crate axle. Swapping different transmission isn’t difficult either if you figure out a way to relocate the torque arm. Where I wish this car had aftermarket support is tubular suspension components.

    It will return to center if you just roll all the caster you got into it 4 jack stands a string line tape and angle gauge you can do your own front end!!! The big problem is if the bushings are rusted so bad that the cam bolts wont turn and the whole thing turns in the control arm!!! A front end shop is going to charge you a SHIT TON OF MONEY !!!! They are a real bitch to change with a v8 car but HOLLY sells new cam bolts for Monza I can look up the part number if needed!!!

    If it’s a ‘75 take that damn cat off and just put dual 2.5” exhaust dumps before the rear tire……that car is smog exempt right????

    • @travisblack417
      @travisblack417  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We want to try and repurpose the “cat back” style of exhaust it has now. When the headers go on I’ll have a “y pipe” made to connect to where the current cat ends. We will also throw a muffler where the open space is currently and have the exhaust actually exit the rear of the car.

      They are still hiding out in a few garages. The ‘77 395 V-8 Spyder Equipment Packaged example I purchased new, w/4 speed, No a/c, ps or air pump is waiting for some mild mods in my garage. Looks like my next winter project. The car was always a blast to drive, handled well with the thicker front and rear anti-sway bars.
