I’m new to this and loving it. Some of my favorite footage so far is when I just STOP and let the camera take in the surroundings, then do some reframing of that shot later in editing. Great points all of these!!
You are the GOAT! - I had to learn all of these mistakes the hard way. The biggest mistakes were shooting epic 15-30 minute videos - still not done editing. lol Only my short clips made it to final production.

"avoid waving the camera around" Yes. This I've been learning the hard way. So many of my shots would have been so much nicer if I'd moved my camera a lot slower. I can always increase the speed of that movement later if I feel like it but I usually can't slow down a movement that was waved too fast.
I’ve been looking on that drifting issue on my gopro max for awhile now. Keeps me frustrated since I have to post-edit it. Before this all I can find was that I didn’t have a sturdy tripod but I know that wasn’t the problem. Thanks for mentioning it, didn’t know it has to do with the gyro!
First time go pro user I’ve got the go pro 360 max probably the first one that came out I’m not sure looking forward to using it any and all advice taken I didn’t get a manual with it so I’m kind of relying on TH-cam to teach me and of course the TH-cam family look forward to speaking and sharing life moments with you all God bless
Just made my mistake. Thought the handlebar mount was strong enough with the selfie stick but the joint was plastic and snapped. Down went the insta360 OneR. The lenses got scratched so now I am investing in lens guards and making sure I am securing this a lot better for bicycle rides. Thank you for the tips. Definitely having fun learning.

I am having the great debate of GoPro Max vs Insta360 OneR or OneX. I have a GoPro Hero 7 Black so the modular feature is not essential to me. Would you prefer the GoPro or Insta for just 360? I worry because the Hero 7 Black had sooooo many issues until a few months ago with a firmware update. I worry the Max might be the same way. However I already pay for GoPro's online service so if I were to break it, I would be covered. The Insta has so many hit videos and so many miss videos that I cannot decide which would be a better place to put my money. Thanks in advance.
It is a tricky decision - I have both and I think the Max is a much better design and if you are used to GoPro it will feel really familiar. It feels more solid, better and bigger lcd screen. My biggest gripe is that GoPro are rubbish at updating firmware and we have seen no new features or updates since it was launched. Insta360 are the complete opposite and they are always updating, adding features, and solving problems. I’m not that keen on the modular system but I just keep it set up with the 360 mod. The one one x is a great camera if you don’t mind no lcd touch screen and no waterproof capability and the fact that it will get left behind with updates over the next 18 months I’m sure.
@@EatSleep360 I very much appreciate the reply. The firmware update is exactly what I worry about. My 7 Black was completely useless for about a year because it would constantly freeze. I bought it for a Disney Cruise and it froze after 2-5 min of use every time rendering it basically useless. I feel like I missed a lot of cool possibilities because of it. However after the update, it has worked flawlessly. I worry that might be the same with the Max. I am leaning toward it still however, so I might take advantage of the Trade-Up program and save a few dollars.

I haven’t had condensation issues but I know a lot of people have and you read it on the Facebook groups. But I know the camera gets crazy hot - the update stopped it cutting out but it still gets too hot in my opinion.
Biggest mistake youtubers make is at 6:52 when they don't adjust the audio levels properly, going from soft to extremely loud. Good video, though. Helpful.
I just got a Go Pro Max yesterday and was so frustrated with it. I was inspired by getting a Quest 2 and saw how valuable and exciting the VR content was. So I wanted to dabble in my own. Almost $600 later... had to upgrade my editing software and buy the stupid hvec extension codec thing from Microsoft for .99 and now finally I’ve got it to a point where I can work with it (editing wise) now to figure out how to keep the stitch lines out. I’m still on the fence maybe I’ll keep it for a week and keep experimenting.
With any of the 360 camera they are all processor heavy - the Max has massive files. The stitch lines can be more prominent at times with the Max because of the wider body. Keep it further away from yourself and surfaces by using a selfies stick and don’t mount it or place it right next to objects and this will help the stitching.

Can you tell me more about that drifting gyro thing ?? I have gopro max and noticing there is one scene where at some point camera stuburnly wants to drift out no matter if i select a keyframe to be exactly focused a bit somehwere else any ideas if you fix it on max somehow ??
I am planning on purchasing the ONE R and one of the situations I'll use it for is VR tours for my real estate business. I am planning on using a selfie stick and want to be sure I use a decent tripod for the bottom. I see one in the background of your video that seems to have 3 legs that sit flatter. Is that my best bet? I looked at the link to your 360 kit and don't see one that looks like that one.

Here mode records with one lens in one direction, it’s easier because it produces a file that can be used straightaway and doesn’t need editing. However 360 mode will mean you are filming with both lenses so you will see everything that is going on. The final video has to be reframed so you have to tell the camera which way to look - this is a bit of a learning g curve but gives you so many more options. Thanks for your comment - if you’re absolutely new to video then 360 video will have a much bigger learning curve. If you’re not interested in 360 I would say get the hero 9. If you want 360 I would buy the twin edition - at first use the 4K mod to film your customers as this will be easier, if it was me I would only film 15s at a time and then use the story editor to put it into a quick montage of the day - this would make your job so much easier. Otherwise you will have hours of footage to go through which is very time consuming. Use the 360 mod on your own and get used to what it can do and how to use it and then slowly introduce it into filming your clients. The 360 mod is a lot more vulnerable to lens scratches so just be careful. These are just a few ideas but I hope it helps. Please look at a few other videos as well and go on the Facebook groups before making the decision as this will help a lot. Thanks, Rich
Chuck Ostrom thanks for the comment - I prefer the look and design of the Max but I would get the ONE R because insta360 are way ahead when it comes to the features they offer and the fact that they are constantly updating firmware and fixing issues. The one r is basically a GoPro as well because of the modular design. GoPro haven’t updated since November and still haven’t got a desktop editor.
Chuck Ostrom image quality are very similar - the GoPro colours are nicer and it’s an easier camera to use especially if you’re used to the GoPro interface, it just feels familiar. It’s just such a shame they are so slack on their updates and features.
by the way..the extension arms that you indicated are from Amazon (Gobudi)...They really look nice, but are not available unfortunate via Amazon UK, Amazon NL or DE. Only in the US
Check out the videos on my channel comparing and reviewing different cameras and this will help. It depends mainly on what you are using it for, if you want it all in one, pocket friendly, only to shoot 360, how extreme the sports are, water use etc - create a list of exactly what you want and need and start from there. Then eliminate the ones that don’t fit into your list and watch a lot of videos on the ones that do from several channels. My favourite is the one x2 but don’t just take my word for it. Hope this helps a bit
Hi Rich, I see you are suggesting the SanDisk Extreme Pro. I am having problems with my one R camera not recording or just starting and stopping when it wants to or like yesterday froze had to hold down the power button for 20 seconds. Then turned back on shot a few more clips but when I got back home there was only the first clip shot? I have been talking with Insta360 and they suggested the SanDisk Extreme, V30. I was using Samsung's EVO class 3 disk most of the time but yesterday I switch to the SanDisk. Don't have the Pro, do you think the write speeds are the issue?
I use extreme and extreme pro but if insta360 have said to use the extreme then I’d use that. The pro in theory should be a better card but it will vary from one camera to the next. But definitely I would stick to sandisk as a brand - I’ll update the description soon with suggested cards from the various sites. Thanks for watching.

My expensive mistake: Buy another fast SD (V90) because i dont know one R is expensive device who cant record 360 5,7K longer than 20 min to overheat indor. Now i have V30 256Gb and 128MB V90. I can outdor helm mount make 2 x 66GB 2 x 1,5hours recording. Because i think my V30 is slow thats why overheat no..... its just overheating toy wasting another money to proof it was pain experience.

@@EatSleep360 For more info. I buy one R in idea dashboard cam for me helmet when i ride my electric unicycle. I use it with powerbank for permanently recording in 4K 360 on cable 2A. If i ride and airflow cooling one R i can record 4 hours file one r make 90min video and save and continue recording is fine for me. If i use it home in living room record kids example. Video in max resolution stops in 20 min and is overheated warning and stop recording. Same HDR video indor without powerbank 25 min +-. This is just feature this 360 action cams. This overheating thing. I just use this product wrong i want longtime use like security cam. This product is make to create short action shots. I spend my money to discover this. Both cards 256gb sandisk V30 is recomended for one R. Second is 128 V90 is not card overheat is just too many procesing for small device without cooling. Im just afraid what hapend in summer when sun heat helmet and camera. All competitors overheat to is just feature big resolutions big troubles. I hope on 4K 360 one R can handle summer.
What file are you trying to play - the insv file? You can only play this through studio or premiere as far as I know and you need the plug in for premiere. There may be a plug in for final cut or others but I’m not sure.

Sorry to hear that - I’d get a Manfrotto super clamp - they are really big but very strong. I take too many risks without lens guards as well lol

My first mistake was to bend the camera on the selfiestick... it was my first time with a 360 camera... then I learned
Problems: 1 Inch Mod
- Record button Problem : Hit Record and nothing happens
- Not Recording as you expect : Hit record and it stops or Freeze after few seconds.
- Stop Recording : Stop Recording and Camera Freezes.
- Continuously Freezes : Camera Keep Freezes all the time. In 20 Shots (8 or 9)

My expensive mistake: Buy another fast SD (V90) because i dont know one R is expensive device who cant record 360 5,7K longer than 20 min to overheat indor. Now i have V30 256Gb and 128MB V90. I can outdor helm mount make 2 x 66GB 2 x 1,5hours recording. Because i think my V30 is slow thats why overheat no..... its just overheating toy wasting another money to proof it was pain experience.

@@EatSleep360 For more info. I buy one R in idea dashboard cam for me helmet when i ride my electric unicycle. I use it with powerbank for permanently recording in 4K 360 on cable 2A. If i ride and airflow cooling one R i can record 4 hours file one r make 90min video and save and continue recording is fine for me. If i use it home in living room record kids example. Video in max resolution stops in 20 min and is overheated warning and stop recording. Same HDR video indor without powerbank 25 min +-. This is just feature this 360 action cams. This overheating thing. I just use this product wrong i want longtime use like security cam. This product is make to create short action shots. I spend my money to discover this. Both cards 256gb sandisk V30 is recomended for one R. Second is 128 V90 is not card overheat is just too many procesing for small device without cooling. Im just afraid what hapend in summer when sun heat helmet and camera. All competitors overheat to is just feature big resolutions big troubles. I hope on 4K 360 one R can handle summer.

What file are you trying to play - the insv file? You can only play this through studio or premiere as far as I know and you need the plug in for premiere. There may be a plug in for final cut or others but I’m not sure.
