Hi Christie, great variety in your garden, not just plants but in growing styles. I grow lots blueberries & I use rose & gardenia potting soil as they have similar ph levels, red pine bark as mulch. Cheers
I planted a bunch of thyme with all my veg this season. Surprise surprise. For the first time ever I’ve got pest free tomatoes and capsicum! A bunch of big tomatoes have grown on the soil and they are undamaged. Thyme is a game changer for me.
FYI Sungold are an F1 variety so you can't really save the seeds as they won't grow true. However, there is a stabilised variety called Sungold Select which you can save seeds from. I'm growing both for the first time and really looking forward to trying and comparing. Lovely tour. Everything is looking pretty good! 😊

@ChristieCooper I've only found Sungold select seeds at one online seed store, Dave's Seeds in Tassie. I usually grow everything from seed, so not sure about seedling availability, but I'd guess not. There's always next year! 🤣
WOW Ms Christie, I really like how u hand pollinate & that soda bottle in the pot for acidity is really cool/clever. Growing up in Western N.Y. we would plant red radish seed w/good luck. Here in Philippines, we have good luck w/ginger but not so w/okra. Do u plant these 3 things there?? Also, we have bug problem w/aphids/white flies here, u have much insect problems there? T/y for sharing, Lawrence. ☺
I’ve grown radish but haven’t tried okra or ginger yet, definitely keen to try ginger as I love cooking with it! Definitely have a lot of aphids here but I’ve found simply thinning the plants out and letting the beneficial bugs in makes a big difference - once an aphid infestation gets in under a net, they breed like crazy! I’m actually interviewing Dr Paul Horne in a couple of weeks who is an insect specialist, let me know if you’ve got any specific questions and I’ll make sure I ask them for you 😊 hope your Filipino garden is thriving! 🙌🏼

My landlord says crushing oregano w/lemongrass looking plant w/mortar/pestle & using w/h20 mixture good for this. Maybe Doc knows about this natural remedy but I'm losing hope. Getting into winter season here & I've tried germinating more shade plants like Chinese Kale w/o luck though Ceylon Spinach (Alugbati) doing rather well lately, T/y 🙂
Good luck with those tomatoes. So many flowers! I'm on Phillip Island. I have tomato flowers early this year - all from seeds sprouting on heat mats. I've lived in Melb and southern NSW, but never had tomatoes for Xmas. Hopefully this year! I've already had half a dozen small leb and yellow zucchinis! And strawbs, spinach and Perilla (Shiso). Stuggling to get my chillis and Thai basils and eggplants going - I think I planted them too early - not enough warmth. It's all in pots. Also Nasturtiums, Yarrows, Chamomiles and other things; delphiniums, calendulas etc in flower. Gardening = joy!

Your plants are doing so much better than ours. Our tomatoes have barely grown since we planted them 2 weeks ago. Our capsicum plants have stopped at seedling height…hopefully everything takes off soon. I’m in the eastern suburbs too with a full sun backyard.
Hopefully they take off soon!! Have you been making sure the soil is always damp and have you added lots of compost / manure? I also give mine some liquid fertiliser every couple of weeks which helps. Also capsicums can take a really long time!
@ I think maybe we have been over watering. We have added compost and nutrients to the soil too. Hopefully they take off soon. I think I will try over wintering our Capsicums this year.
Hi Christie, I think it was me that mentioned the sungold tomato seeds from Bunnings a few videos ago, 5 seeds for $5 😂. I also started some traveller or voyager tomatoes that your kids might like. If you leave the potatoes until they die back you should get bigger and more potatoes, that’s what has worked for me. Great video as always

Our planting guide has been thrown off completely because of this.
I'll be honest I'm not as familiar with the central highlands region! However most of what I've got in my garden now is hot weather veggies - so tomatoes, beans, capsicums, chillies, cucumbers, corn etc should all go great. This article might help too, it's specific to your region. Good luck! White oil for the bugs and eco fungicide for the fungal diseases - however both of those can also effect the beneficial bugs to I try not to use them at all unless absolutely necessary! Removing affected leaves before they get the chance to spread has always worked well for me.
Actually really good still! And my more developed plants (trees etc) don’t appear to have been negatively impacted - so I’m putting that in the success pile!

Where did you buy your tomato frame? I think you picked your potatoes far too early. I’m growing my own for the first time. I’ve been told to wait until the leaves die right down before picking them.
Those potato plants 7:04 minute , they are not ready, they are just have no water. Need to water more. Soil in the pot is drying too fast and iregularly.

You can take a cutting off the plant and overwinter it.

I think the sungold tomato is a hybrid variety so the seeds you save from it won't come up true to type. That's why the seeds are so expensive 😅
