I’m usually better at uploading these at the start of the month but I’ve had a few things slowing me down this time! Next month I’ll be more punctual haha ☺️
Your garden is going well. Some of my plants bolted because of the confusing weather. I was growing Broccolini. I had a few meals, and then it finished. It's probably because of too much heat as I have colourbond fences and concrete and no grass. It will be good with your raised garden beds. I put some out the back just for Lavender, etc, and they are 44 high. They are metal, so I put cardboard, twigs, leaves to fill them and soil, and the plants are growing well. I'm going to put more out the front as I have small courtyards. When I made a cover for a previous bed, I made it out of plumbing pipe. It was strong but too expensive. Now I use stakes and put poly pipe on top and bend it over,so much cheaper. I got that idea off another channel. When I watched your videos I thought you had a lovely voice, you should be on TV, then I watched the news which I rarely do and I saw you on there.😊 It was raining here in Sydney with high winds, then it was hot days and cool nights. Poor plants are thinking what season is it. I only just finished picking cherry tomatoes off a plant last week. I've saved some seeds. Usually, I just squeeze a cherry tomatoe over the soil and then cover the seeds, and I get plants. I've been getting heaps of bees on my water features they stop for a rest and a drink. Happy gardening. 🌷
Sounds like you’ve got an amazing set up at your place! And wow - can’t believe your tomatoes have lasted this long! Must be a bit warmer than where I am ☺️ I’m definitely keen to get more flowers going this year to attract the bees, and to bring some more colour to the garden! Love the bees 🙌🏽
Christie - don't know if I am preaching to the Choir but my method of producing good leaf vegetables (cabbage, lettuce, silver beet, spinach etc) without bug infestation. I use a Seasol dispenser (click the hose on and spray) filled with cheap dishwashing concentrate. About twice weekly I use it to spray heavy soap over the veges and I don't get slugs, moths etc eating or imbedding in those veges.
@@ChristieCooper Thanks Christie no real negatives but I suppose it may depend on the strength of soap used and how often, using the seasol mixer possibly dilutes the soap. I sometimes get patches of dry brown areas on leaves but I can work around and live with that - I consider the up side not using pesticides.
Hi love your videos. Just discovered them. I am in Melbourne too. I want to grow black and blueberries. Did you use a different potting mix for your berry plants? Thank you
I just used the same potting mix but I’ll be honest, I’m a berry beginner, I’m really just experimenting with them and have no idea how they’ll turn out!
great video, really enjoyed it. also just a quick question, im situated in the eastern suburbs ringwood area. what seeds do you think i should be starting in my greenhouse around this time? any tips would be appreciated, cheers 👍
It’s nearly time to start thinking about getting your summer veg going inside or in a greenhouse! Nights might still be too cold depending on how warm your greenhouse is. I’d go early on basil because that takes forever to grow from seed, in the next few weeks you can think about tomatoes and peppers etc. the week to get them out into the ground is Melbourne cup week. Good luck!
@@ChristieCooper wow thankyou so much for the advice, im trying to plant everything at the right time this year so that i can plant my winter veg at the right time next year so this helps alot. cheers heaps 👍
Hi Christina, I actually just use a premium potting mix for carrots, unlike other veggies they don’t much fertiliser and can become forked if there’s too much nitrogen in the soil so I didn’t even add compost. Most important thing for carrots is that your soil is nice and loose. For my other veggies I use a combination of compost and premium potting mix, then use a liquid fertiliser every few weeks. My home made compost always produces much better veggies than store bought compost. Hope that helps!
I’ve used a seed raising mix that I just picked up from Bunnings, and a bit of worm castings as I read it can help keep the aphids at bay (and add extra nutrients.) I think most important factors in the very early days are direct sun light exposure, enough warmth (for summer veggies) and frequent watering. Do you think your seedlings are getting enough sun?
Will definitely keep watching to support those kids, but also because I love watching your garden develop.
I always love reading your comments Anne ☺️
Fellow Australian here from Adelaide!! 28 degrees Celsius next Thursday already!! Oiii!! Not ready for summer!!
Welcome! Wow that’s full summer vibes! I wouldn’t mind one of those. My grandparents were all from SA. Go crows 😉
@@ChristieCooperHah hah!! You know our language!! LOL!!
Amazing work Christie! Such a good cause too.
Loved this tour! Your garden is stunning! 💕💚
Thanks so much Jackie! The next one will be uploaded in a few days, a lot has changed in a few weeks!
I was wondering where you'd gotten to. Good to see another update. :)

Thanks Tim! Last time I tried this I felt my veggies were a bit damaged afterwards, have you found any negative side effect for your plants?

Oh I’m so glad you showed up on my feed this evening. From another Aussie gardener. Could I ask what zone you are in.
Welcome! I’m in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs - not sure whether that has an official zone name!

Your seedlings are looking good. I've not been successful in getting my seedlings looking like that. What potting mix do you use? I am in Australia.

I think they do get enough sunlight. It could be lack of nutrient or overwatering. Thanks for your suggestions. I'll try the worm casting.
