    This is fascinating! I’ve actually seen those little brown remains of aphids on my rosebushes years ago. I don’t squish them because I don’t get a lot of them anymore. I stopped using pesticides on my rosebushes and that’s when all the predatory insects begun to thrive. I never realised some wasps were so tiny either. I just had a big colony of spider wasps living in one of my succulent pots and the whole colony moved on elsewhere after they’d cleaned up all the other insects which were most probably hidden under the plants in the gap between the soil and top of the pot. Really informative video. Thank you. 💚

    Im in Melbourne. Last year l discovered stainless steel mesh bags on Amazon. That and natural food traps from a local pest controller. The rats were atrocious, eating green passionfruit and all my tomatoes. This year l am repared and so far so good. My young Jack Russell is also a year older and faster, so that also may be helping. Good luck.

    I have a milkweed garden and inevitably it is overrun by golden aphids. I’ve seen a lot of ladybugs but it’s never enough to prevent the aphids from overtaking about a quarter of the plants. And that means late monarch caterpillars don’t survive because the plants are sickly. What can I do?

    • @reneedevry4361
      @reneedevry4361 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I don't know where you are located but in late spring or early summer I pinch the tips out heavily of about half my milkweed species so that they regrow producing tender leaves for the later arriving monarchs to lay eggs. If aphids are a way out of control your plants likely need to be watered more often as stress chemicals are released by stressed plants attracting the aphids.

    Looks like your zucchini overfertilized with nitrogen and not enough potassium and phosphorus. Leaves are big but fruits are bad.. also calcium is good if rotten fruits occur. Better spray with fertilizer because bad soil can block it for plants.

    A suggestion for your berry plants: place them into a small bath tub. You could even dig a large hole and have the top level with the soil (yes it would be a large job digging out enough soil), alternatively, you could build a nice frame around it to match your existing veggie boxes. A piece of reo mesh as a support down the middle will give you something to tie them up /support them on. Keeps wandering roots contained.

    Hi Christie, Love the gardens' growth so far. It's really looking good and growing so fast. To get really good growth on my blueberries, I have been placing the peels of oranges, lemons, and limes at the bottom of the hole the blueberries will go into as a kind of top up of scraps to help make the garden bed acidic. You could do a test run on two blueberry plants. One with peels under it when planted and one that isn't planted with peels and just experiment to see which has the best growth. I also make a mix of plant mixture with perlite, vermiculite, sand, coconut coir, mushroom compost, and top soil. I then add sugar cane mulch on top to keep them moist and not dry.

    Hi Christie. Happy new years to you and yours! Could I please ask you where you sourced both the organza bags + your garden arches from? Your new patch is much improved and absolutely gorgeous! I’m loving the transformation which I’m sure inspires you to greater growing heights. Love it! Update: @Lunasgarden kindly passed on the info about the bags. Thank you both! 🙏 Another quick question. Does your neighbour’s giant eucalyptus tree affect the amount of sunshine to your crops-and do you have any tips to counteract the loss of full sun in a veggie patch? I have a fairly large tree on my side of the fence, and my neighbour has an even bigger one just slightly to the left of it which means that in winter I may get less than 6 hours of patchy sun at the back of my garden. Any tips much appreciated.

I don't prune my tomatoes at all and let them flop all over the place and all I do is the weekly feed and water them; reason being I have already redone the soil before planting. I have been having great success with Reflective bird tape (TEMU) that crackles and sparkles in the wind also Tinsel, cheap and readily available. Possum, birds and rats seem to avoid it so it might help some of your viewers. The nest draw string vegetable bags you can buy in the fruit area at Coles have been good for larger bunches of fruit and veg.

      I’ll have to keep an eye out for reflective bird tape! Also I put a bunch of those Coles bags on last month and sadly they virtually all got eaten through 🫠

      @ Darn those pests. Hopefully the chiffon bags aren’t as pleasant on their teeth

    I buy from them all the time. They keep you updated with your shipment and if it's delayed they give you a credit. I'm not going to stop purchasing from them.

    Lacewing larva and adults have a very painful bite. I appreciate them as predators but I hate it when they get on me and give me a bite 😂

    I planted a bunch of thyme with all my veg this season. Surprise surprise. For the first time ever I’ve got pest free tomatoes and capsicum! A bunch of big tomatoes have grown on the soil and they are undamaged. Thyme is a game changer for me.
