I envy you 😌 This incredible man was soulful in the pure, literal way. Well, I should write he *is* soulful. His music will be by my side until my life ends.
1982, a freshman in college was trying to find his way when I started getting in Al so I bought the Breakin' Away cassette and that tape assisted a brother in so many ways. While friends were vibing with rap, Al was offering me perspective on life, love, relationship and spirituality. I awakened to this cassette for an entire semester. So happy for the gift of music and what it has meant on a highly personal level. That is the true menaing of art, IMO.
I have a family (a sister and two brothers I met in high school) who’ve been tremendous, amazing friends to me for 45 years. When I hear this song, I think of them! I think God for this relationship! 😊
You can't fake a performance like this, you have to love doing this! I have played with some great musicians in my time, and the best were the ones who let their love of creating the music step in and take over from all else. I played a practice session with this man, and I can tell you that he WAS music! Talk about a master class in performing, OMG this guy was the real deal and the truth, all in one! I miss you, Mr. Jarreau!
This song is so personal to me, I was stationed in Egypt in the Army from 1983 to 1983. I would listen to this cassette every morning for 6 months , thinking about my girlfriend in Pittsburgh.💞💞💞 Thanks Al.....RIP.
Let's not forget the brillant Jay Graydon, he's the one who brought Al to those heights in terms of creativity, musicianship, and most of all in terms of joy recorded on acétate, or cd, or mp3, or whatever. Jay and Al formed a pair for a few years , and a few albums that produced albums that are unique and stand the test of times like few.
This song was written by Richard Page and Steve George. At that time they had an excellent but little known group called Pages. Steve Gadd, Abe Laboriel, Jay Graydon and I think David Foster were on the recorded version of this song.
Beautiful, my ole friend rest easy Al..your music will live on forever in hearts and minds, great songwriter and great singer, you are deeply missed..rest on my friend (02/12/2017)
Excellent performance. Al Jarreau has always surrounded himself with stellar musicians. This band is incredible. The flugelhorn solo is spot on. The rhythm section is grooving like a freight train. Thanks for the upload.
+Cledwyn Tyler Cool! Thank you. He can never be thanked too much...such a wonderful, unique, beautifully talented soul. A blessing to the world, indeed.
AL JARREAU I HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN...THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU WAS IN VIRGINIA 2010, AT THE FERGUSON CENTER FOR THE ARTS. YOU ARE A GREAT TALENT. HAVE BEEN A FAN FOR 35 YEARS. BE WELL.
Met him once in New Haven, Ct. back in the early 80's. Worked for a Top 40 radio station and he was our guest star. Real down to earth and oh so humble. Was a treat.
Im so glad I was one of those kids born in the 80s just before the crappy music took over the airwaves... as a baby growing up I still got to hear Al on the radio.
I have always lived Al. My first album was roof garden. I have never missed a concert in LA from the Greek Theatre to the last Long Beach concert in August from the age of 25-52. Love you Al old friend.
Every musicians journey begins with his/hers voice, and then it usually transforms into a physical instrument that fits the soul. Al's instrument kept to its purest form... rhythm, voice, melody, mind, body, and spirit... the physical instrument is nothing more than Al. I met Al (of all places) when I was shopping at the Gelson's market in Tarzana, CA. in 2002. What a humble man... I was so happy to finally meet him. I was really lost for words, but so happy to shake his hand. Thanks Al !
LYRICS (YEAR 1981): I can recall those warm summer days No decisions, child's play Did they slip away? Gone forever, gone forever Lost to yesterday From the beginning you've been Always there my old friend True until the end of time As I walk down streets full of amber leaves I see nothing's really changed at all We're just older now Still together, still together After all these years And from the beginning you've been Always there my old friend True until the end of time My old friend From the beginning you've been Always there my old friend True until the end of time Still together, after all these years! And from the beginning you've been Always there my old friend True until the end of time My old friend From the beginning you've been Always there my old friend True until the end of time My old friend From the beginning you've been Always there my old friend You' ve been true until the end of time

I had the privilege to see Al playing with David Sanborn in Central Park in the 90's...a concert in a summer evening...simply amazing! Long life to Al Jarreau.
He lives a few house from my Aunt in Tarzana and he truly is a gentleman and full of class and so humble. He and his wife will be attending my Aunts annual Holiday party, wish I didn't live so far away.
malefik63 era lì..io purtroppo no.. avevo 17 anni all'epoca..lo amo da allora..grande Al sei stato sei e sarai fonte di immaginazione, creazione, vitalità. Video straordinario questo, voce inconfondibile, sempre più eterna.
....Let's not forget Jay Graydon's Major Major contributions and "stamp" to AJ's pop.R&B sound. He set the production and arranging mark very high for any other Producer coming after him with 'our old friend, Al. cnnmusic
Cosa dire? Ci sono parole forse? ... Per una nuova consapevolezza..questo è un video musicale dedicato..semplicemente.. all'Umanità. Grazie Al..Sei nel mio cuore. Uno cone me. Uno con tutto cio che E'.

OMG the sounds of the Fender Rhodes and flugelhorn brings back memories when I was courting the girl I eventually married ❤. RIP brother Al. Love to all the musicians!!
Hi, the bass player is George Hawkins, Bobby Lyle on Rhodes, Jim Studer on keys, Michael Patches Stewart and Michael Paulo on horns....Alex Acuna on drums....the name of the guitar player escapes me for the moment.....can't see the percussion player.....it's nearly the same band which performed early 80'ies in Germany's ROCKPALAST ( with Icarus Johnson on guitar...) thanks for the music ...does anybody have the whole concert ?
Parabéns Fernando por apressiar esta maravilhosa voz e os músicos pena que ele nos deixou, mas tenho certeza que ele está cantando lá em cima se tivermos sorte um dia poderemos estar com ele.
My best friend moved to Neu-Zeeland from CAPE Town,S.A more than 20 years ago...2023 isn't him this beautiful song and he ended up crying on the other end...lol❤❤❤😊😊👌🇿🇦
Listening to each note, watching the changes in expression, the subtle movements of the hands, the coming close, and then slowly turning away - this is the perfection of Art. Now, I have learned how to master life!
Vocally Al Jarreau had no competition. His unique voice coupled with this professional group was remarkable. One of the greatest singers the world ever produced. Recorded in Italy in 1982. Bobby Lyle on Fender Rhodes.

Jay Graydon is a wonderful musician himself, played the guitar-solo on "Peg" by Steely Dan. 👏👍
Al Jarreau met Jay Graydon at the his right Time ♥️♥️♥️

I can recall those warm summer days
No decisions, child's play
Did they slip away?
Gone forever, gone forever
Lost to yesterday
From the beginning you've been
Always there my old friend
True until the end of time
As I walk down streets full of amber leaves
I see nothing's really changed at all
We're just older now
Still together, still together
After all these years
And from the beginning you've been
Always there my old friend
True until the end of time
My old friend
From the beginning you've been
Always there my old friend

True until the end of time
My old friend
From the beginning you've been
Always there my old friend
True until the end of time
My old friend
From the beginning you've been
Always there my old friend
You' ve been true until the end of time
