- This week, we leave Guadeloupe and sail south to Les Saintes. We spend a few days exploring the tiny islands and getting some much needed repairs done on Uma. Then, it's off to Dominica. We get frustrated at our autopilot but still manage to enjoy yet another beautiful sail south in the Caribbean without tacking.
If you enjoyed this episode, please give it thumbs up, it helps us out a bunch :)

Hey guys, I simply do not have the words to express how much I enjoy watching your videos, even though I've never thought I'd be unable to adequately express myself. All of them have interesting content to be sure, are very well produced, and you two are obviously really fine people. But words like great, neat, wonderful, entertaining, or even delightful just don't cut it. So please accept this as my best shot: I look forward to them (sometimes putting them off until last, savoring them for the best), and simply don't know what to say except "Thank You." Wishing you all the best, Mick McCoy.
Dominica has an incredible vibe you can feel, it comes right through the camera. Well played Uma folks, well played!
Good job on the sail Dan....work smarter, not harder 👍🏻
Oh wow an island with less tour traffic, that sounds amazing ... fantastic 🌺🌺🌺 it's nice not to feel part of a tourist pack sometimes too I think 💗
It is such a treat to sit here all afternoon and watch video after video of your journey...what a joy....thanks!
I first saw Dan riding out hurricane. Now I have binge watched and hope to see more. You are living my dream. I wish you calm seas and happy journeys.
Thanks! Glad you like our little videos.
Hi Dan and Kika,I recently started watching sailing videos and I came across tour channel. I have binge-watched all the videos and you guys are amazing. I do appreciate your love for nature, your interactions with locals and the detail explanation of the places you visit. Keep up the good work and be safe.
Thank you for fixing that jib. It has been driving my nuts for many episodes... Not a fun task, but therapeutic.
😂😂😂
I love watching Sailing Zatara and SLV. They each have something to offer, but I absolutely love the detail you lend to your videos!!!!! I am so happy I found all the Steps of sailing UMA!!!!
Great episode, Dominica looks like a real fantastic place to visit !!!
Good sewing!
We so adore your adventures,... Dan is quite the sail maker. :)
Hi you two, really enjoying your videos! They brighten the day in rainy England.
Bestest.
Stephen.
Great job on the stitching, Dan!
hey folks, each time I'm feeling down and then watch one of your videos, I feel light, relaxed and motivated again. this is so great. you two are something else. thank you for sharing. love this trip :)
Enjoyed hanging with you kids this morning! Thanks for this Step and Have a great day! #LoveSailingUma
Love that you guys are giving us a sneak peak into these less traveled islands.
You guys are awesome! Love your energy. Nice job on the sail repair. Thanks for sharing.
Great job on stitching the sail. Fun to see these videos. Thank you and Sail on.
You guys have so much talent. Great videos.
Amazing job on the sail repairs, top knotch.
I love the pictures of Uma in the anchorages... I have always loved the look of the Pearson 36! Great job guys!
You two are the spice in my food. I absolutely adore you guys. Have fun!
You guys are great, been watching you for a few months. Very sharp guy you got there
I like all the things you fix yourself very good. Good Sailing.
Thanks guys for the tunacado idea. And your not bad fisherman its just goes that way. Some people are just more lucky. When your catching barracuda try a little weight so you are trolling deeper. The game fish are under the cudas.
Binge watching you guys now. I'm always a year behind everyone else lol
Love your DIY shows and your Adventures. Be Safe & Be Free!!!
I'm living vicariously thru your eyes. Thanks for the adventures :)
Best Wishes from oldman Dan
Hey I remember that fruit too. I'm from El Salvador and I left when I was 6yrs. old.
The gas that volcanoes put off that smells so bad is usually hydrogen sulfide (HS). It is the same gas that comes from onions when they are sliced. When the gas mixes with the tears in your eyes (or any water source) it becomes mild sulfuric acid which is what causes the burning sensation in your eyes or nose. Breathing those vapors might even burn the lung tissue over extended periods of time. The lengths of your hikes are impressive!
Wahay I've caught up ! Binge watched after watching one of your videos. Waiting for your next video. Happy sailing
I can't help it. I'm not sure which part of y'all is my favorite. I'm so ready to trade in the "death and destruction" lifestyle for your life. I'm counting days. love it, keep it up.
Love the genip trees. Definitely always hated our wheel pilot as well. We strapped on a used Hydrovane in Grenada -- the best piece of gear we've ever put on the boat. Cheers! Scott and Kim
love you guy's and your adventures
I think I just found my favorite TH-cam channel!
Well done, your videos keep getting better and better!
At film time 5:28.. " well guys, finally it's time to pull the head sail''.. is that sailors jargon for ripped scalp ? .... so much for the perforated sun hat !
Rain here in North Georgia. I get to binge watch. Love the video's. Some southern lingo "I hope to join yun's out there one day." Here's to living out your dream. - A fan from just a little north of the Atl
Nice! Dominica is a super cool place. Cheers!
I love the white interior, so clean and bright happy
My favorite yachting couple x
Recently found your channel have been bringing since the beginning. Also the hair the wasn't cut on Dan is crazy 🤣
Great videos, your one of the best. Hair looks good too.
that hand stichin made your great grandma proud :-) P.S. great job your in my top 3 sailing channels! THANK YOU
Desperately seeking wind vane sponsor... 40k subscribers and growing one of the best on the net
Thank you for your episode :-)
Hello guys, feel like I'm coming to the party late, sorry but that's how it is. at least I'm watching now. Watched sushi being butchered at the start of the episode and thought I'd pass on a tip for the future. Always cut in the middle for sushi reduces crushing effects.
Thanks for including the name & title of the songs you used in this video. It would be great if you did that all the time.
That's the plan ;)
Fun fun fun, your energy makes us think we can do it too at 60. Annapolis boat show is very soon!
Nice job on the hand stitching of your sail. A HUGE job! Makes my fingers hurt just watching. If you can pick yourself up a Sailrite sewing machine that you can hand crank it will make repairs go much more smoothly. (I love mine!) Thanks for the adventure! Cheers!
Thats the plan once we get back to the USA. We can even run it off the inverter.
You'll really like the sewing machine. My wife got her's earlier this week and I haven't seen her since. They are great machines and I don't think you'll be disappointed. Just remember, "After you've done so much with so little, you are now able to do anything with nothing!"
sssshhhhhh. Don’t tell anybody you are living in paradise
TunaCado? This was my first Step -- Awesome! Can't wait to get all caught up on your adventure.
Badass diy sail repair. Great idea on the windvane, you're sailing the perfect boat for it. The Holland windvane looks like a well thought out diy option, it's a bit of a job to put together though. It also goes by the name of Bouvaan & they do ex vat prices. I wouldn't be surprised they could do you a deal if you documented the build on your channel.
Met a woman at the marina in Bocas Del toro Panama that was in her 70’s and was heading out through the canal to circumnavigate for the 4th time. I can understand that
Great one guys 😊 !
Love our flag on your hat !!! Happy Winds !!!
What i really love about your videos, you are sailors, not motor sailing because the wind is wrong or not there.
I know its cause of your electric drive.
Sailing is about not being in a hurry to get there.
Noo! Whyy? I was loving the Dan hair! :)
Impressive stiching skills Dan ..
The Caribbean seems to have given Dan a really good tan. Kika's sushi looks a lot better than how mine turned out the first time.
Great video love the music
tunacado.............looks good. nice sewing
Nice videos. In Jamaica we call that fruit you got in Dominica Guinep. I too used to eat those in the summer time, which I miss as well. Keep up the great work. I looooove the videos.
Cheers Guys! The Sushi looked fantastic ;-)
O, it was!!
She missed a couple chunks in front. Lol. Love the channel!
Hey been watching since the start, love the show and love sailing. A little fishing knowledge for you, Mahi love cover so if you see a patch of seagrass floating toss a line in, youll have a better chance catching a few fish under and around those patches of grass
Thanks for the tip!
I'll give you a tip on the one of the nicest hike in the Caribbean if you happen to stop in Fort De France. Take the city bus to Didier Tunnel. Get out on the last stop and walk trough the tunnel on the amazing beautiful road right in the rain forest with hardly any car traffic and almost flat. After about 3km on the left you'll see a water filtration plant . The trail starts right there, beside the fence. Just walk down to the river, there will be a bridge, crosse it walk up and there is the water pipe tunnel . Get you head lamps on and enjoy the coolness of it. The tunnel is roughly 100 m long .Once you emerge on the other side , just follow the river up stream . First there will be a small water fall and than maybe 20 minutes later a big one. Once you have you lunch there go back and try remembering the entrance back to the tunnel. Once back on the Rd, you can either go back the way you came, or keep going on the road to the end until you'll see a Didier Water bottling plant on your left. Cross the river and follow the trail for maybe an hour through the beautiful rain forest until on the left you'll see the house. Go up toward the house and take the road across amazing stone bridge and after about 1,5 km walk you'll find yourself on the main highway. Walk down a bit where the Ballata gardens are and take a bus down to the water front. The whole adventure will cost you about $5 ( four bus tickets). Good luck
AT LAST!!!! Since your sunstrip started coming apart I kept swearing at you guys to sort it out but it never happened. You finally took your main down to fix a hole and I thought you were going to do it at the same time... you didn't! I was going nuts here lol. (I'm not OCD honest haha). Well you finally done it and not a bad job either!!! Fair winds friends ;)
13:48 Nissan Skyline ! Pog
Quenepa!!! YAY! Love Quenepas and that Puerto Rico Hat you have BRO! If you guys get to go, my fave islands are Curacao and ST Martin! Enjoy the Island Hopping :)
Muito massa seus vídeos, parabéns para o casal👏👏👏
Great video crew! I admire your dedication to repairs, I don't think I could have looked at that sail and said "Let's do this." I would have been more of the "Ugh, I can't do this!" Good on ya for getting it done.
Great video !
Avatuncado lol! You two are the best
Love your Puerto Rican hat!!!
just after sailing to the place you buying fish in the market ? love it :D
Hey guys, another great video. I've been following you since the beginning and especially like they way you guys think out of the box. You haven't spoken about it for a while, but how is your copper bottom and I remember you using pvc for plumbing instead of the more expensive marine tubing. How are those systems holding up. Keep up the great work and stay out of that box. Fair winds!
Yaaaas, quenepas! Enjoy
Hey Kika and Dan. I was admiring how great your DIY fridge was in this episode.
How long did you keep using this improvised fridge? I saw in much later ep you
got a new fridge from a manufacturer. Did you remove the home made fridge you made and change how that space was used?
Hi, Love your videos. I noticed a smudge in this video , probably something on the lens of the camera. Thanks awesome.
Man, you guys eat some food! thanks for the Vid.
On the cooking situation: you might be able to make your own charcoal by putting wood sticks into the solar cooker.
Marcus Ekner it might also just burst into flames 🔥
I vote Atunado.! Happy sailing!
Tunacado. Great idea!
Thank you I learned something new, so kenep is similar to a lychee (litchi) with a lime taste.
I would love to sail with yall one day... ill teach u some fishing and yall teach us some sailing.... lol. Great vid yall!
In Trinidad, we call the little fruit, chennet
I really look forward to your videos!! You guys are doing it right! A few questions: 1) how are you liking your electric motor? Love it idea!! 2) I thought you were going to get an outboard for the dingy. 3) What about hurricane season?
Love it. We are. We're sailing.....
1. We'll be doing an update soon enough on the motor, but so far love it.
2. We finally have the cash for a dingy motor and are super excited for it. We've been rowing for 3or 4 months now. We might even be getting one tomorrow (fingers crossed)
3. We're just going to keep sailing. We usually check the weather daily. The good thing about hurricanes are they give you A LOT of warning before the show up. And down here (Grenada to San Blas) they don't show up very often.
Hope that helps.
rastafarii !
Sailing Uma z
Avuna?
Great head sail repair!
STICKBUG: WTF man it took me a whole day to get up on that wall from these stinking bushes
The thing I like about Dominica is that they have so much fruit trees people don't need to buy fruits.
5:25 Don't worry, I have the same haircut (a tondeuse buzzcut at 2mm). Too bad I have to do it myself ;-) Next time I'll make mohawk!
The fruit is also called kumquat
Good work with the sails Dan, who needs a sewing machine:-)? Presumably it takes a special heavy duty sewing machine to sew sails? Was wondering what you do for cash, most places I've been to these days I just go to an atm but does that get complicated when sailling? Or can you get away with a stash of US dollars? Looks like squeaky objects to you talking to the camera! Ah! Just got to the ATM bit of the video! Nice hair Dan! Thanks again for sharing this step of your adventure with us!
What did you do with your silk thing that you hang from you did like the coolest stuff like you're an artist
I'd go with Tunacado
Yayyyyy The Cranberries :-) !!!
Dan doesn’t need ANY stinking Haircut...!! OK 👌
Oh Man, That Don’t look good to me 8:08. I haven’t had one of
Those since Boot Camp in 1968.... W O W 😳😱👶🏻
Awesome guys! Hope to run into you one day! S/V DIJAN
It's a pity you didn't go to Marie Galante ! 😯 The best rhum of Guadeloupe ! 🍹
ah oui, le bon rhum du Père Labat 😊
@@aggienl Voilà une connaisseuse ! ❤️😅😅
en effet, ma mère est de Marie-Galante☺
Great vid guys thank you so much. Is there an easy way to fly in to Dominica from Canada?
Marc and Monique Vaillancourt google.com/flights
Nice video as always, how did you find Guadeloupe in terms of "atmosphere" ? (city/beach life, parties if any, etc )
How about a little about your motor and how it handles? How you use it? How long and far you can go with it? Top speed? etc Thanks guys!

Very thorough, thank you
