Lots of TH-cam cruising channels all visit the same places and post videos but the content from Uma is sooo much better. Great videography, editing, music, pace, commentary. Quality stuff folks. You should be proud of your efforts. Thanks.
Wow, Dan. When I saw you turned 29 years old I realized how much of my life i wasted instead of adventuring like you do with Kiki. At your age i was in the middle of 15 years of service in the french foreign legion. I am sure you would not want to switch places :) Keep your awesome videos coming. I am physically unable to leave my apartment so i go on adventures through you guys.
I'm impressed how well you do with what you have. Not to take away from anything, but no motor for the dingy, solar cooking, and cooking on the grill, and keeping it cheap really shows you don't need much to see the same view as the million dollar yachts. Well done. Cheers and happy birthday!
I have been having some health issues as of lately and not been able to do my thing. Ran across your channel. I m on my second day of binge watching your vids. You have one of the best channels Ive run across. Do all that you can while you can. Your health can turn on you at any time and change your life forever. Im so glad I followed my path. Now that my body is failing me at age 60 I have so much to look back on. Wish I had the technology that is available today to have documented my travels. Enjoy your lives and I will enjoy traveling vicariously through you. Thanks for taking me along..... Ride Hard and Live Free the DRIFTER.....
Binge watching you two...holy mackerel! Started watching you in the northern travels and marveled at you tackling the bitter cold but beautiful surroundings. So...I had to find out how you began and why the great north.
Hi Kika and Dan. Thanks for such a great channel. We love your videos and the editing is excellent Kika 😉 Have you considered replacing your propane fuelled stove with a methylated sprit stove? We do a lot of remote area travel and we've got a spirit fuelled maxi stove (with 2 burners and a grill) and never had any problems trying to refuel it when we get to a town and you don't have to lug around big heavy propane bottles. The one setback is that it doesn't get as hot as a propane stove. The only thing we haven't been able to cook with it is deep fried oysters and fish. So every now and again when we want to deep fry as a treat we'll go ashore and make a fire which is better anyway because the mess stays off the boat! Fair winds from Oz, Troy and Pascale
Love it guys. Been watching for a while now, totally reminds us of our Australia Vw camper van adventures fifteen years ago. Love the mix of tech, issues with boat and you guys just enjoying each other's company and your adventures. Surely memories for a lifetime. X
happy belated birthday Mate!...you'll remember the 29th as you shared it with us, thanks! loved the Indian river tour and laughed at the coconut opening demo...could see a mile away what was going to happen, rock n coco.....memories now!
Re not anchoring in Dominica Joshua Slocum traveled the world giving talks on his travels. Dominica however missed out because his greeting in Dominica was "You can't anchor here" so he sailed on just as many to follow have done. Will they ever learn
Hey guys!! Small world, we've watch a bunch of you're vids too! We thought about doing a bus before we decided on a sailboat. Glad to have you on board ;)
Looks like you had fun editing to the music on the Indian River section. Your video technique improves all the time. You two are genuine, and informative.
It looks like your having a great time. Its so nice to see such positive people and it must be so great to have such a positive lady with you...Your video make me forget where I'm at and it feels like I'm there cruising too....enjoy...
I was searching through the comments to see what this was. What's going on there at the 8:08 mark? Happy birthday Dan. Great video, as usual. I'm still getting my wife [and my life] prepped to do what you guys are doing. Love it!
VIdeo game stepped up ! :) I can't place my finger on it, but this was one of my favorite Videos! I didnt realize the Martinique was that close to Dominica. My wife, son and I start our adventure in 15 months. I think we will start in Tortola if we can find a good boat there :) Cheers, Thanks for the awesome vids and sharing your adventures
Think you are in Grenada, yes? Consider a pop over to Tabago. My wife is Trini, and we love Tabago. The west coast has so many anchorages and small villages. ITg seems just like the type of place you'd like. And, Irma has reversed the trades winds and you can make it downwind!
Happy Birthday to you, Dan. The root systems were very interesting. I imagine Daniel was a great tour guide. Is it possible to park closer to the shore when you go to the store or restaurants so you don't have to row so much?
Thank you!! AWESOME video!! Incredible place the Indian river!! THANK you guys!! You sow me places from this amazing planet that i cant go!! Thank you again!!1 Cheers!!!
Has Uma had a paint job? She looks plane white, she used to just have a rubbing streak along just below deck level, very smart. Great shots in this video! Good to see the Bow Seat getting some use, clearly Dan's welding's working well! Amazing shot of Dan surfacing! Shame you didn't get to explore that part of Dominica and get your propane filled! Looks lke an amazing sail down, Uma really stretching her legs! Happy belated birthday Dan!
Do you have a propane sensor installed on your boat? I believe they also come with a shut-off switch for the propane supply line. I agree with you, I don't prefer propane either. I have a natural gas oven, but finding natural gas is next to impossible.
Happy Birthday Dan! Love your videos! Wondering if you checked with anyone "official" about the no anchoring thing? I'm betting it was the fisherman's brother's mooring!
Love your videos. I would also love to see a video where you talk about cooking in that solar oven. Pros cons, time it takes, weather it works in, maybe a few recipes, etc.
Will check out your review, we are considering upgrading some of our equipment in the future - particularly looking at cooking stuff and the fridge! Anything that saves propane and electricity we are up for!
We actually felt the opposite. Sure There are differences, but these islands are all VERY similar ! Similar culture, food, drinks, beaches, waterfall, even similar style taxi buses. All Equally beautiful. Some just were able to promote their tourism more than others.
@@SailingUma the things in your videos that struck me most as differences go between these Carribean destinations were the various topography and environment... Some high mountains, some relatively flat islands, some dry desert like environments with cacti, and some tropical rainforests. And there were stark contrast in wealth and how the full time residents of these places live. Some places were extremely touristy, others almost vacant and secluded. Those were the things that seemed like really strong contrast between those places.
Av you thought about one of them pumps that suck the air out of the bag u put your food in it would save you double space in cupboard and fridge or freezer just a thought hope it helps u2
I believe that is a cero mackerel they are midway in size between a Spanish and king mackerel but unlike the other two which tend to be very oily and fishy and best smoked cero are fantastic, sweet and mild.
You cant see everything in one season. Sometimes because we couldnt get the visas for kika, but also because We wanted to be down in grenada by august without rushing to see every single island in the Caribbean, so we made choices in order to spend more time in the ones we did sail to.
I have been trying to get my sailing buddies to go to Dominica to no avail. I am very jealous. We had a lot of great French cooking in Martinique. Hope you also enjoy when you get there.
Lol on the cooking. But the GoSun is the cheapest cooking device. Sure wish you had that rail mount bracket. It makes life GoSun great. BTW, can you post a photo of the propane adaptor, and any other types of adaptors I need to purchase. I want to buy one for my travels in that area.
That fish had emotional issues. His girlfish had left him and he was feeling lonely and unloved. If only he had talked to another fish about his problems he might still be alive today. Poor Mr Fish, your value as a living being comes from within you. It is not dependent on another fish.
Hey guys!! Just found your channel and i'm binge watching my way through the video's I know you guys will have solved the propane problem already, but i want to make a tip for people out there. Gasoline is something you will be able to find almost anywhere, coleman makes gasoline stoves. These work like a charm, and maybe is a option for a back-up! So you can atleast eat something cooked instead of grilled/sun baked
@@SailingUma those are great too! I had a small 20ft sailboat (Leisure 20) and i also used an alcohol stove. Those work great and the fuel is easy to get too.
i wish your stay in dominica could have been longer, that and i wish i would be there to welcome you!. pity watching this in china 4 years later lol...
Hi guys just wanted to leave a comment and let you know that I have watched every step of your amazing journey I do have one question though what do you use for editing software your videos are amazing

Another great channel is Sailing La Vagabonde and sailing Zingaro.

Your guys' relationship with fish and fishing... hilarious.
Great editing on this one Kika. Love the fade at 3 minute mark.
Agreed. My fave was the lens flare transition at 04:21.

This is one of the best vids I have seen on you tube. They do a great job bringing real life to view. Thanks for posting!!
It's a good day when Dan & Kika are up for watching. Thank you.
Happy Birthday Dan!! I would love to begin again at 29..... I have not run across a girl with as much moving energy as Kika!
“… a little goes a long way for love…” Entirely endearing 😊😊 😊
Happy birthday! My new fave Sailing channel, you guys are awesome showing that this can be done without a fancy cat! Just became a patron!
Hey guys!! Small world, we've watch a bunch of you're vids too! We thought about doing a bus before we decided on a sailboat. Glad to have you on board ;)
We wish You a Happy Birthday Dan, this was a very good video, ...You two have an Amazing life. Safe Travels.
Happy Belated birthday Dan. Many happy Returns! Sad you had a negative experience at Rouseau :( Cheers!
Dominica looks fab ... all those flowers 🌺🌸🌺🌸
29 & Living the dream. You are a lucky man. Happy Birthday!
Love watching your videos. Checking in from Sunny South Florida! Safe journey guys =)
"Good morning guys, today is quite a miserable and rainy day" she says with a big smile!
imagine chasing after your dinner... just to bump into something and dying and ending up becoming someone else's dinner!
I just discovered your channel, and I feel I can relate to you guys more than most other sail boaters
Aced it again, guys. Such pro vids. Hippo Birdie Dan !
Happy birthday, Dan!

Another great video. Best wishes. You guys are awesome.
Happy birthday brother, be safe guys. Thanks for sharing.
Oh wow, that mackerel feast looks amazing.
Having lived in mountain states I am probably jaded, but flip flops are absolutely the worst walking shoes I can imagine.
You make me feel like I am right there with you!!! Thank you.
Happy Birthday. Very nice vid love you guys.
yup. Still jealous. love it y'all. dodge the weather and stay safe. And happy birthday man.

Just found your channel and am catching up. Love guys like Daniel (the boat guy) in the Carribbean that create their own businesses.
This was absolutely beautiful I loved all of the trees and vegetation surrounding you like an extremely private island. Awesome

Happy Blessing Birthday ... Thank you guys for show this beautiful Planet , PS . be careful about the storm ' IRMA' OK! God bless you guys . xoxo
Hi,
Have you considered having your own adapter that allows you to fill your propane tank, I have mine and they are very convenient to have.

We actually just posted out full review of the GoSun a few weeks ago. th-cam.com/video/Lx0O1Lvrrl8/w-d-xo.html
oh awesome thanks!
Will check out your review, we are considering upgrading some of our equipment in the future - particularly looking at cooking stuff and the fridge! Anything that saves propane and electricity we are up for!
I'm still making my way through all your older videos - what happened to the little motor you used to have for the dinghy?
You'll see when you catch up a bit more ;)
Happy Birthday!
Well did you get propane refilled?
It's so interesting to me just how different these Caribbean islands are from one another. Shockingly different.

new resolution (1080) of your movie. Great!
Good luck
Man that fish dinner looked amazing!!
Happy Belated Birthday, Dan. Stay safe from hurricane Irma.
Av you thought about one of them pumps that suck the air out of the bag u put your food in it would save you double space in cupboard and fridge or freezer just a thought hope it helps u2
Make sure to stop in Bequia on your way south! That's our favorite island in the windwards by far!
We did make a quick stop there. but we only stayed one day to check in before sailing to Union.
Well if you make it back, spend some time and go to The Fig Tree and say hi to Mrs. Johnson and her family. Some of the best food in the Caribbean
Wonderful video....as always. Keep on smilin'!
Dude that fish looked awesome
I believe that is a cero mackerel they are midway in size between a Spanish and king mackerel but unlike the other two which tend to be very oily and fishy and best smoked cero are fantastic, sweet and mild.
That is amazing luck! I know im still 5 years behind but I bet im consuming videos faster than you are putting them out. Ill catch up soon!
Kika, your hair looks great!!!
Nice job - you guys do good work.
Hello Uma 😁 I adore your channel but I have a question, why did you by pass the leeward Islands? Antigua & Barbuda mainly!
You cant see everything in one season. Sometimes because we couldnt get the visas for kika, but also because We wanted to be down in grenada by august without rushing to see every single island in the Caribbean, so we made choices in order to spend more time in the ones we did sail to.
GOALS!!!! thanks !!!!!
Dan swimming up like Neptune was super creative.
When you talk about you boat speed knots. It that over land or water?
Another great episode, to bad about the unfortunate mooring ball run-in!!
Happy belated birthday bud!
I have been trying to get my sailing buddies to go to Dominica to no avail. I am very jealous. We had a lot of great French cooking in Martinique. Hope you also enjoy when you get there.
Great video and happy birthday as well
Daniel; "Marry that girl,"Kika"!!!!!
Anyone know the name of the song at 9:55?? Really good
Beautifully composed video.
This ole retired squid has been really enjoying your channel.
Best one yet, Cheers Jay V

By the way; I sent for the same model GoSun cooker. Hasn't arrived yet. Eager to try it out.
Rooted bio-fractals. Yeah that's it. If you're around, I'll see you around. Daniell has a way with words, adding tropical wisdom...
That fish had emotional issues. His girlfish had left him and he was feeling lonely and unloved.
If only he had talked to another fish about his problems he might still be alive today.
Poor Mr Fish, your value as a living being comes from within you. It is not dependent on another fish.
happy birthday and you guys be safe out there in hurricane country
Uma provided for you she takes good care of you guys
Happy belated birthday Dan.
Nice when the king shows up for dinner like that.

I watched this ep while on a rolly night passage on Lake Ontario. Felt like VR. :)
Great video as always
Kika gets more beautiful as this adventure goes on. Or maybe it's just Dan's birthday? Put a ring on it, bro!
