  • Taking that first step with rewiring the bike, which is reducing the original harness down to the bare essentials, and testing out wiring up an m unit using left over lights that I have. I also managed to finalize the forks as well with a fork seal job and a recolor.

    Another Masterpiece! You took what seemed to be complicated and took it down to the simplest terms. You didn't just talk about it you demonstrated it for all to see! Just one more talent in the box of many! All assembled in a wonderful video. It doesn't get much better!

    A couple of tips for the future: Tape is your friend.
    1# A little bit of tape can help you keep the shape of a wiring loom if you use it sparingly during unwrapping the original crusty bmw sheathing and tape. Use it as marker to show where the loom branches off to different places as you go. This then allows you to trace, cut, then pull the wires without leaving the loom in too much of a mess (Note; it will still be a mess, but slightly more manageable). You should then be able to see most of the original routing making it way easier to re-tape up loom to a factory look meaning fitting the loom back to the frame will be less painful.
    2# Tape the end of your tools. Some tape on the end of your lever/pry bar or needle nose pliers will help prevent scratches or damage. I said a prayer for your forks during the seal job.
    Great video. Loving the progress, as always. Powa to you sista

      Noted, on the harness tape tip. Thanks.
      But as far as the forks go, whoever worked on this last had already put tool marks all over it so I wasn't worried about it enough to tape the tools, instead I just worked gently

    Mad props brother...
    I've been riding and wrenching since 1989. Most "builder" channels bore me(except Project Binky of course) here on the Tube.
    Anybody can blow hundreds of man hours, using esoteric tools, in a shop space that would cost tens of thousands of dollars to recreate.
    Every time I see you, just doing something, finding a way, letting your love for two wheels drive you, I actually tear up a bit...
    Maybe, just maybe, there is a chance motorcycle culture will live on in this country, after all those "banker bikers" that can afford $30K+ status symbols die off.
    Keep on keepin' man...

Lights&horn, ignition&fuel, ECU, and guages. Then connect where they need be, like the brake switches and ignition. Start at one point. You've made it this far.

    Now other idea that i have is make a megasquid or speeduino ecu, but i don’t have enough knowledge about a motorcycle to do. So i hope if is in your plans doing something like that.

      Oh so your bike has the motronic system? This Russian page called stunexru made a cafe racer based on the k1100 with an m unit installed. They did a video highlighting the electrics... its titled in Russian so it might be hard to find. Just look through their page.
      I plan to simply use the original injection just for simplicity but I think people had success with those systems. BSK speedworks also makes an ECU

    On my first redo of a 85 K100 10 yrs ago, it had a knocking sound at 500 rpm, that went away at 1000 rpm. After checking the forums back then I found the fix. It was a spring washer that replaced a weaker one in the drive train. Now on my current project 85 K100 I hear that same knock at 500 rpm. But now I don't remember the part name or # or where it goes and I can't find it in any of the forums. Hoping you or one of your viewers may know about this.

      Wait but why is the engine even running at only 500rpm?

    • @drscrib99
      @drscrib99 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Theillestrator1050 I could set the idle somewhere lower than 1000 and the knock shows up. The knock is a lashing wear point in the internal drive train that shouldn't be there. It goes away when the stronger spring is installed. Supposedly it was later upgraded at the factory to the stronger one. Your 86 probably has the upgraded one so you've never had this issue. It sounds like a rod knock that would scare a potential buyer.

      If you can keep your head when all about you
      Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
      If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
      But make allowance for their doubting too;
      If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
      Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
      Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
      And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise:
      If you can dream-and not make dreams your master;
      If you can think-and not make thoughts your aim;
      If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
      And treat those two impostors just the same;
      If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
      Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
      Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
      And stoop and build ’em up with worn-out tools:
      If you can make one heap of all your winnings
      And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
      And lose, and start again at your beginnings
      And never breathe a word about your loss;
      If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
      To serve your turn long after they are gone,
      And so hold on when there is nothing in you
      Except the Will which says to them: ‘Hold on!’
      If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
      Or walk with Kings-nor lose the common touch,
      If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
      If all men count with you, but none too much;
      If you can fill the unforgiving minute
      With sixty seconds’ worth of distance run,
      Yours is the Earth and everything that’s in it,
      And-which is more-you’ll be a Man, my son!

      So really all it comes down to, is making sure you have all the right tools and the right amount of extra time you'll need to finish the job. Watch a few tutorials, read some forum posts and have a good idea of what you need to do before you start. That way you have every thing you need and there are no surprises. So cool not needing all that useless wires and relay, why aren't companies using stuff like this to simplify bikes and cars alike? My guess is that it makes wiring and troubleshooting something anyone can do, which in result causes dealerships loss of repairs. It always comes down to money.
