    I just got mine 3 weeks ago and I am in love!!! This car has given me the best driving experience of my life! I'm only 5'4" so I have to scoot the seat up. In a world of soccer moms and SUV's, this car is a real standout!

      Is it still a fun car even with automatic? Seriously thinking getting one, but there's no manual option here in Taiwan! I'm afraid the automatic will be regretting....

    • @doncull
      @doncull 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +40qqrock Yes even with the automatic. If you feel like shifting you can use the paddel shifters on the steering wheel. I have the paddel shifters on my Honda Fit also so I'm use to them. The only reason I didn't buy the stick shift was that I'm not a track guy. I drive just for the fun of it and get tired of shifting.

    • @geraldbennett7035
      @geraldbennett7035 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Timpala44 The color is cool. Now if we can get mazda to re-visit a few things: 20hp more, add some road feel to the steering, get rid of that stupid digital gauge combo, make the touchscreen fold-down, better sounding exhaust, drop the price 4K, make a limited-slip diff available in the GT, offer leather and NAV to the Club, eliminate one of its two antennas, move the peddle placements to a more reasonable position. Just a few weaknesses.

    • @Timpala44
      @Timpala44 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would have to test drive one to comment back. It's still too expensive for me. I am curious what the used market will bring in 3 years.

  • @CalvinWatkins
    @CalvinWatkins 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    C'mon Man! You gotta be kidding me -- that exhaust sound is mean and nasty.. For the new looks of the Miata, that wide stance, more torque and aggressive looks, that sound matches perfectly with all that's mentioned. But hey, everyone's entitled to their opinion.. Great review.

      @@smclear Thanks for the clarification - I wasn't aware of that. I'm probably jut going to get a used 2016 Club. I'd like the extra features of the GT, but can't justify the extra cost for what will just be a weekend toy.

  • @76carmel
    @76carmel 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree with you with one thing. A lot of people who troll on the Internet will say, "It needs a turbo!" I don't think the Miata needs a larger engine, say the 2.5L Inline-4 that's in the Mazda3, 6, and CX-5. But as Angus McKenzie from Motor Trend would say, "It's like using a Howitzer in a turkey shoot." (Translation: Too much engine for its purpose). (A Howitzer is a cannon by the way).

    What is your feeling about driver position?

    • @geraldbennett7035
      @geraldbennett7035 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mr. Mazda it sucks. Peddles are so close that you have to focus on keeping your right leg very straight. They are also too far right so you leg rests on the transmission hump. Seating position is too low and it just feels creepy. Seats are not bad but could feel better. Steering wheel is skinny. I did not buy the show room model I drove. Its that bad. Reverse is on the right so I could not confidently move to 1st without having to check.

      Nope. Flyin Miata put their development GT on the scales right after they got it and it's weight was 2328lbs. Not sure where you got 400 lbs over the sport. Someone else weighed a Club with brembo/bbs pack and 1/3 tank of fuel and got 2300 lbs even.

      Bbs in the uk will give you 250 hp if you want it but to be honest the balance is what this car is about most driving is done within the speed limit so having a fun drive at lower speeds is what makes the MX 5 is all about not top end or even acceleration.
      the car was actually designed around the 1.5 the 2.0 is aimed at the US market as was the auto box even though it these upset the 50/50 balance

    The screen is touch screen when the car is not moving just like all the other current Mazda vehicles. If you're going to review a car, at least get it right.

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it can't be controlled via touch when the car is in motion then what's the point? You need to use the rotary knob which is awful. Only manufacturer that does that. Also, the CX-9 does not use Mazda Connect.

    • @klboi3
      @klboi3 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +TestDriveNow.com featuring Auto Critic Steve Hammes
      Then maybe you should've said that in the review instead. Also, touch is for when the car is at a stop so it's safer and less distracting to reach over. Duh.

    • @stevehammes
      @stevehammes  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Elysium No other touchscreen on the market is disabled when the vehicle is in motion. Yes, there are certain features which cannot be accessed when in motion for safety reasons but to do it like Mazda has done it is, in your words, a "duh" moment.

    $31,000 kind of pricey.

    • @mx5hong
      @mx5hong 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Ray Cheng Base price is $25,000. For that you get a/c (manual, no auto climate), leather steering wheel, 16" alloy rims, display audio, power windows and LED headlights in addition to the LED daytime running lights.
      The base model is just fine for street driving and maybe an occasional autox event.
      The one Steve tested was the top Grand Touring model with leather, climate control, Bose stereo, heated seats and much more.
      A car magazine said the base price adjusted for inflation for base price for the 1990 model is about the same. And the 1990 model didn't even come with power steering. It was optional, as was the alloy rims, power windows, etc, which is all standard on the 2016 model.

    I owned an NC. This ND is a joke. Still no power but could overlook that if it was fun to drive (as with all Miatas). But it is not fun to drive. Dead steering feel. Peddles are poorly placed so cruising is not enjoyable. Seating position is too low and you see those stupid fender bumps in your field of view. Touchscreen is ugly as hell and low res. Cannot get leather or Nav in the Club Model (???). Stupid Mazda #$%^'d this car. It will be the last Miata. Mazda will kill it off in three years and say that the market did not support it.

    • @JairRiveraFotografo
      @JairRiveraFotografo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Gerald Bennett Except maybe the stupid one is not Mazda because the thing is simply sold out. Seating position is never "too Low" on a "sports" car, and ypu can already get third party leather seats for under $1000. The steering feel? people used to say this exact same thing when power hydraulic steering appeared. Screen? fuck that, this car is so pretty everywhere no one cares about the screen, actually, i wish i could have ordered mine without it, but the basic radio one is ugly. Only selfish individuals tend to think that cars will be a catastrophe if you dont like it. Guess what, no car is perfect, no car will be loved by everyone, thats life. So please, get your head out of your rear and buy a NC, or a NB or a NA, those were, are and will be great, no matter what you say.
