Shawni yup for sure. Matt is dead correct on this. If you’re in certain MOS and they are under strength you serve at the needs of the Army sometimes. My unit from Ft. Wayne IN that I was with draws people from 7 states. I don’t really mind the travel as I get the hotel paid for and you get reimbursed up to $500 for travel expenses for drill weekends. I’m an ammo warrant officer in the reserves so since I did this I will have to travel to units as I rank up. The next level for me after this deployment and company time is brigade and that’s in Little Rock or going out to Ft. Lee VA
I spent 10yrs meeting my contract as a officer captain. For what to do not seen be seen as veteran. Army will pull you for war but not even treat you as a veteran. I know because because I got my useless honorable discharge.
Couple questions that may be obvious. Does the army pay for your flight to Texas for training? And I imagine signing up for reserves still means you go through basic and ait first?

So I’m thinking about going reserves. How long before I can use my Tuition assistant benefits, does it take a couple of years to be able to use them like your VA loan or how does it work?
Strongly consider going to a reserve or guard unit. I had an adjustment when I got to the more relaxed reserve environment. But now I've retired and am drawing that retirement check. All my old guy friends wish they had that $ each month. Know what it takes to advance and let that be your motivator. It goes by fast.
Here is a pro tip. So keep in mind that once you get out of Active you will be placed in the IRR for the reminder of your initial 8 year obligation. So instead of going straight from active to Reserve, ETS go into the IRR than contact a Career Counselor like myself (not a recruiter) and we can place you in a Reserve unit and not only will you not be rushed because you already out processed, but there are often bonuses for coming into the Reserve from the IRR.

My recruiter told me I won't get paid until I'm completely done with training (basic and AIT) and I am freaking out. lol - My MOS is 1 year long so I won't get paid for over a year?? How do they expect anyone to pay bills?
You definitely get paid just like active duty during Basic and AIT if you are in the Reserves. Your recruiter is probably in Active Duty and has never been in the Reserves before. Or they are trying to convince you to go active instead of Reserves.
You do have to meet the physical requirements such as Ht/Wt but as far as push ups you don’t have to be able to do any to join. If you want more information let me know.
Sir, after you're done with your initial entry training, can you take medication in the Army reserve? I have stuff going on but don't feel comfortable at all talking to my platoon sergeant.
USERRA laughs at a majority of the first part of this video. If its your drill weekend, your employer has little to no choice but to say anything other than, see you when you get back. Drill schedule isn't a request, its basically Uncle Sam (Reserves) or The Governor of your state (National Guard) telling your employer to hand you over for that time period. And reserves has the 500 mile program that gives more than enough assistance for traveling to and from drills if you're x amount of distance away. So TLDR, Pick the MOS you want, so you're happy in your military career and that happiness is reflected in your duty. P.S Not slighting Mr.Ward whatsoever, one of my favorite Miltube creators.

Yes, you will receive higher cost of living because you live in Massachusetts. So you get paid more when you're in basic. I just wouldn't mention it to them unless you want to do full disclosure. It's many months to 368 yourself and that's at your commander's discretion. I would just pick a unit in Tennessee and sign on with them save everybody a hassle. Butttt, check out the price difference for BAH in MA and TN. Good luck🌴

Inspect that hand receipt. And tell your joes to inspect their loads
*Jesus Christ is Lord & He is coming soon. Don’t take that* 💉
I'm 32 and thinking about joining. Im just not sure which branch would be best since I have a wife and kid's. My biggest regret is not serving my country. I want to enlist while im still able to. If anyone has any advice please drop a comment!
I’m thinking about joining the reserves
Me too watching as much as I can to absorb as much info as I can. Good luck man
Sir I have one for ya for travel.
I live in Indianapolis (home of DFAS) and have to drill in Los Angeles!
Lee VA
Life hack, you can go from reserve into active duty for 90 days and boom....VA bill. Only 30 days have to be consecutive
Great video, sir! Gotta love when the reserve unit for the state next to you is CLOSER than the one your assigned to in your state (cough, cough 3 hours away haha)
My appointment is next Wednesday I'm so excited
Matt, are u gonna do the 2nd term of reserve contract? Or u will wrap it up your army career
So I’m thinking about going reserves. How long before I can use my Tuition assistant benefits, does it take a couple of years to be able to use them like your VA loan or how does it work?
Keep up the good work matt
Thank you!!
@Matt Ward You said every unit has a different drill schedule, is there a way to find out a unit’s schedule?
@@bridger6101 I think the unit Commander can tell you that
@@MattWard89 I wanna join the reserves but I want to travel. Can you travel in the reserves like getting deployed in Puerto Rico
I have one year left on my active duty contact. I'm either gonna ETS or switch to reserves but I'm not sure which yet.
So one thing new soldiers need to know army reservist are people that e-4 sham out. Same thing for officers. Did two deployments with the guard. Iraq included. But the effects was we actually deployed. Army reserves usually don’t deploy but uet
But yet they teach soldiers how to deploy to combat areas.
Good to know that I have to do like six years for the VA loan. Hope I deploy lol😂
Same here !😂
Oops, i enlisted in the Air Force reserve😮
Just wanted to comment that a job cannot legally fire you for going to drill. We are protected under USERRA.
Yo I ordered the black army T-shirt on ur merch store and it said 2 days but it’s been almost a week and I haven’t gotten an email. Is it delayed because of covid?
I live in Cali so I have units all over
Health benefits and a home loan in six years only working 15 days a year? Been considering this alot now that my girl will be starting rotations
Honestly bro I wanna join the army I’m really close to going active duty but I don’t wanna feel like a prisoner ngl ik then bonuses fat but it just would feel a lot better and more motivating knowing I could go home after yk
Just a hunch:
The shitbag units will be much more flexible on scheduling
Super helpful and informative 😊❤️❤️
I have no degree and no money at the moment. If i join the reserve as 91b and do the quick leave bonus (15k) would i be able to like start a life and live? 15k for a cheap car and apartment and then a mechanic degree?
I’m an American in East Asia (Taiwan). Could I do drill by flying to Japan every month? Are there units there?
Another reason why I’m Active Duty❤️🇺🇸
What reason is that sir ?
@@fnzone better pay and I can actually see the world not just on deployments and I love working out every day with active duty I don’t want to do that a weekend a month
@@LEBRONJAMESVICKERS I'm in the reserve but I'm definitely thinking about going active too bro
@@CollegeSportsREVIVED you definitely should bro I’m enjoying life up here
Do army reserves need to trim and shave their hair and beard to go to monthly training?
Yes
I want to become an army reserve.can’t wait
Hi
When you fly to your base in Texas from NC for the weekend drill, does the Army pay for your plane and taxi fare?
Active Duty does pay into healthcare.
It's free for the individual on active, but when it comes to your family how much you pay depends on if you get Tricare select, tricare prime...etc
Thank you for the info!!!!
As a reservist, do you get the full benefit of the VA loan after 6 years?
Yes
Every person on my crap base is waiting for the day, they can leave active and join Hurd and go AGR on there own terms.
Does anyone know if you get paid during Basic if you are joining the reserves? My recruiter told me I won't get paid until I'm completely done with training (basic and AIT) and I am freaking out. lol - My MOS is 1 year long so I won't get paid for over a year?? How do they expect anyone to pay bills?
You definitely get paid just like active duty during Basic and AIT if you are in the Reserves. Your recruiter is probably in Active Duty and has never been in the Reserves before. Or they are trying to convince you to go active instead of Reserves.
Because you have to fly, does the army reserves pay for it?
Thank you, for this.
Looks like you might not have a XXIV Corp patch.
Happy Friday Matt!
Do you have to go to tech school or can you return to your civilian job after BMT when in the reserve?
for the VA Loan. is it after serving 6 years or you just have to sign a 6 year contract?
Do you got to be physically active to join because I can't do a single push up and was wondering if you could still join
As long as it has been prescribed to you, it is ok to take medication in the military.
Dont say nothing to your Plt SGT or Co. This will flag you, try to deal with it outside army. If you want to get deployed, just bring your meds
I’m joining to get my feet wet then will go over to enlisted!
I see you have a Sig Sauer p320. Good choice
Do you pay your flights or the army does? 🤔
Matt’s hairline is receding every year 😂
Lucky for him he looks fine bald/short hair.
Crossing my fingers I don’t go bald or my hairline don’t go too far back cause I’m one of the unlucky ones lol
This good to know! Looking to go OCS after my undergrad, what do you think my odds are of getting a science related MOS if I live on the northern east coast? Looking to be a reservist and get good lab time to help me get into grad school
I graduated college in 2020, and have a 9-5 sales job. If you go into reserves, pls share how it goes
Me too!! Looking to a STEM role to help with grad school admissions
Same, but I’m engineering and the army has a lot of options. Cyber, signal, 26A network engineering.
New bill says reservists or national guard members can get VA loans after 6 years of service
Thats me in a way....i live in NC the mos that i want is in texas....but was flexible to move to texas
How do I know which mos I want?
I really want to go into cyber and I'm probably going to need to fly every month. How would you pitch this to your recruiter? Is it a hard sell?
I’m a recruiter and currently in cyber MOS. Let me know if you want more information
@@eatingwithal494 do they require the va-xine?
I like this for me its a good balance I want to serve but I always want to pre-sue school and such etc
If you want more information on the process let me know. I’ll gladly fill you in.
Just wait until your preferred job is available
What's the chances of getting deployed while in the reserves ?
Depends on your unit. Some never get deployed. Some just get mobilized to an active duty post, and some deploy overseas very 3 year's or so.
Can you do a video about ppl who join when they’re alittle older ?
Real quick can you volunteer for deployments in the reserve?
Yeah
I want to move to Tennessee from Massachusetts and I'm looking to join the reserves. can I join the reserves while in MA and move to Tennessee after basic training?
Yes, unlike the National Guard the Reserve is federal so transferring units even in a different state is pretty easily done.
Good luck🌴
How often should you expect to be deployed?Want to serve my country in some form but I have a few businesses that I need to be present for.
Hey Mr.Matt I have a question about being in the reserves, can you be in the reserves and also be a college athlete(basketball being the sport preferably) like will they allow you to do that?
They really don't care what you do as long as you are doing your time
Is it easy to transfer to another unit if you move to a different part of the country?
Yes, the reserves are federally funded, it's just ample paperwork
Shipping out 11x fort Benning September 29th!
Good luck
So does the Army reserves get mroe specialty schools than the guard , like airborn, air assualt etc
Good video matt
I am going on as an E4(32 years old) reserves but I was told that I can go in as a officer? Is that true? However I won’t has my Bachelors in nursing till December so they are pushing my training until I graduate
Can you bring your spouse/kids to drill weekends?
