- This is my complete video of my month long solo road trip across the South Island of New Zealand. I hope it is of benefit to you in planning or just seeing what the country is like. Thanks for watching! If you’d like to see more of my upcoming adventures around South East Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Laos, Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore) make sure to subscribe! I’m travelling indefinitely so there will definitely be some cool stuff coming out :)

Useful Info:
Best time to travel is December to March, but it’s also the high season and is more crowded. You can go any time of year, as it’s still beautiful in winter. However, the weather is always all over the place - roads can close at almost any time of the year.
For freedom camping; the apps ‘Rankers Camping’ or ‘Campermate’ are the best place to find camping spots. Some are free, others are 10-15NZD pp.
The South Island is better than the north but the north is also worth visiting if you have time.

Mount Cook & Lake Pukaki
Arthur’s Pass

I'm headed to South island Thursday, and I found this video really helpful and inspiring. Thank you so much brave girl.
Thank you! I hope you have a great time there :)
Yep, them Kea birds can be quite the little monsters. Love them birds! I really enjoyed the Avalanche trail, it was challenging! So much fun I hiked it on 3 different occasions in 2020, just before the pandemic. Thanks so much for your videos, they take me back to places I love!
haha loveable little monsters is a great description. Wow, I really have to get back to do that one - thank you, I’m glad i can !
The Lion King dialogue on top of the mountain… 😂😂😂 you’re a legend! New sub, love the Kiwi humour
hahah thank you so much ☺️❤️
About fantastic presentation my friend!
Thank you so much :)
Seeing you run up all of the mountains you've been visiting, you definitely are way fitter than DOC estimates for on the popular hikes. 😂
Loving you showing off all of the lesser known gems of NZ.
hahaha chur. thank you, glad you enjoyed :)
@@eowynaldridge Just watched your Kepler adventure and thunderstorms in Fiordland. You did really well to not get stuck out on the tops with that weather being forcasted! Thing you might find reassuring: You are safe from lightning strikes inside a car or van, because the metal shell will route the lightning around the outside and not through you. It will still sound as scary as hell though, and while you are safe, the same cannot be said for the cars electrical systems 🙄!
I got stuck outside during a thunderstorm while tramping in a valley near the Routeburn track once back in the late 1980s, That was really scary, and we were lucky to get a call out via mountain radio to let the park headquarters know where we were and that we were backing out.
Beautiful footage!
Over half way through - what a mammoth effort shooting and editing all of this. Really enjoyable and making me very excited for my upcoming trip :)
Thank you so much! Hope you have a great time on your trip :)
Eowyn you have to do the do the Route Burn track. Best to wait for a cloudless day & hike right up to the peak. It’s a 360deg. view. When living in Qtn back in the late 9ties. I awoke at 1st light looked out the window & the sky was devoid of clouds. I dragged my wife out bed through her in the car along with basics. Wow what a day that was I’ll never forget it STUNNING ❤🙏🇳🇿😎🖖love your work sooo good n’ real you’ve got what it takes and a new fan. Take care stay real❤
I absolutely am going to do the routeburn track! thank you and sounds like a great trip you had too :)
love this! thank you so much for documenting everything so well - it's great for anyone planning a trip :)
Thank you so much :)
Awesome job. Lots of helpful tips, got to know you a bit more and of course magnificant scenery. PS arent 2nd hand vinyls great esp when u get them cheap
thank you so much, agreed!
Amazing film and awesome editing!! You can’t go past NZ back country!
Thank you! Absolutely Agreed 👍🏻
Really nice videography, what time of year was this? Look forward to watching your other videos.
Thank you! This was all in September, so early spring! So a very mixed weather bag.
Nice video.
thank you!
Awesome work!! And good editing. How many times did you record walking off, or driving off then have to turn around and get your camera lol
Thank you so much and a lot haha. All worth it at the end of the day though.
whats the name of that book you were reading on your lazy day? You are so skilled in your filming - what a massive production to bring everything together!!! Great video and learnings
The Luminaries by Eleanor Catton! She’s a kiwi author, and it’s a crime / mystery (not my usual genre but I made an exception) based on the early settlements on the west coast of NZ (where I lived for a while) and it won the man booker prize back in 2013. Would absolutely recommend, FANTASTIC book. Was also adapted into a mini series with Eva Green, although I haven’t watched it.
Really love how the videos were shot and love your adventure!! Hey, I'm thinking of flying my drone when I'm over in NZ end of this year as well. Did you have to constantly seek permission from landowners to fly your drone?
Thank you! Honestly, it’s a real piece of work trying to figure out where’s okay to fly and where isn’t. I’d check the DJI maps, but if you don’t see a no drone sign you’re usually okay.
You seem to be very unlucky with the weather. A couple of months ago I got the most wonderful views in Fox Glacier
Haha I think so, glad you got some good views though!
What month were you at Mount Cook?
September
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Bravo?!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾Bravo?!
Very nice and scenic video! I am planning a trip to South island in late October. Just wondering if the snow-capped mountains will still be present during that time?
thank you :) - in october, could be either or. weather ain't consistent at all.
