- Roam New Zealand, following on from Australia I explore NZ on a solo motorbike camping adventure along dirt tracks, mountain passes, across properties/farms, back roads, the occasional HWY, camping beside lakes, on beaches, in the mountains and beside dirt tracks. Join me as I explore the beauty of this amazing country by motorcycle.
Nice intro. Really gets me hyped for the rest of the trip. Thanks Joe.
Thanks mate, the first episode is always a little slower as I am just trying to get to the good stuff 😂
Great intro Jo! Congratulations to Royal Enfield! 👏 Joe would do the new Himalayan 450 well! Wow! New Zealand, what a place you show us Viewers with your photographic skills! 👍😁
Thanks mate, great to hear you liked it. The 450 is not in NZ as yet, still a few more weeks away, they have started closing down the tracks for winter and it is getting to cold to camp. Spoiler alert, the Scam 411 does a great job.
Hi Joe - Welcome to NZ and specifically the South Island. A mate from Vic put me on to your work and I look forward to seeing how you capture the stunning scenery we call home. Safe riding mate.
Thanks mate, New Zealand is an epic place to explore, I could never do it justice, it a place you need to explore in person to really take in the mind-blowing scenery and the epic trails but I'll do my best.
When you get close to Queenstown and you need a bed, you’re very welcome. At the very least I’d be happy to buy you a beer and point out a couple of tracks to explore.
Awesome start. Can’t wait for the rest!!!!
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoy the first episode, many more to come.
Thanks! Great to see you back on the road. Looks like a great adventure ahead . Safe travels
It's great to be back Larry, thank you as always for the support. New Zealand is an amazing place to explore, the roads are great the tracks are amazing, good spots to camp and the scenery is mind-blowing, lots of episodes to come.
@@freewayproject It will be interesting to see how the Scram performs vs the Himalayan
@@larrykaminski3269 yes, it will be interesting, I'll do a review once the trip is done.
Great to have you back, Joe. And great to see Royal getting behind you because so they bloody well should. Looking forward to the new content. 👍
It's great to be back. Grateful for the loan of the bike. New Zealand is an epic place to ride, amazing trails and mind-blowing scenery.
I didn’t find this work of art , it found me ❤ love and respect from India 🇮🇳
Thanks mate, it is great to hear you are enjoying the series. I hope you be riding in your mountains soon.
❤
Ripper intro….cant wait to get home from work to watch the rest of this episode , I’m invested 🎉
Thanks mate, I hope you enjoy the series, there is a lot more to come
I'm sitting here starting to plan a short camping trip in a few weeks' time and up pops a new series! YAAAAY!
Sounds like fun, nothing better than getting out there.
Looking forward to the new series and seeing New Zealand. That first camp site by the ocean was really amazing!
New Zealand is an amazing place to explore, good roads, great tracks, awesome camp sites, and mind-blowing scenery.
Keep 'em coming...always enjoy your videos. I love my '21 Himalayan, but I often wonder about the 19 inch front, since most of my time is on pavement ...and I agree with the others below, love the intro.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed the episode. Yes the 19 is definitely better on road when in those fun winding roads
I’m so glad you’re back. I’ve missed the adventures. Looking forward to seeing the South Island.
It's good to be back. The south Island is an amazing place to explore, awesome trails and mind-blowing scenery.
Right off the bat I absolutely love that you remake the thumbnail shot in the first few seconds of the video, there's something just so cool about clicking on that picture and seeing it come together. More videos should do this!
I was trying to make sure it didn't come across as clickbait (as that annoys me when the thumbnail doesn't relate to the video). Great to hear you enjoyed the first episode of the series. I hope you enjoy the series.
Nice footage. Reminds me of where I lived/worked on the Northern California coast. Thanks
Oh the Pacific North West is stunning, would like to ride through there all the way up the boarder into Canada. yes very similar to that area. it is quite dry here at the moment I have been told.
Great to see a new video...a little different bike....looking forward to see New Zealand.....any new 450 himi sightings yet.....Nice of RE to let you use a bike....you're doing something right and they're giving you some recognition.
Thanks mate, it great to be exploring again. New Zealand is amazing, great trails, awesome camp spots and mind-blowing scenery. Yes grateful for the use of the motorbike.
Great to see you back on the road / track / trail again Joe, and in one the best countries in the world to boot..we have motorhomed the South Island and not once in three weeks had to stay in a commercial park, always managed to find a wild camping spot each night and usually next to a river, lake or the ocean .... cheers Joe, its going to be a great Kiwi journey ....
It's great to be back, New Zealand is an amazing place to explore, awesome trails, mind-blowing scenery and yes great camp sites.
Into series 3 and the idea of getting on my first motorbike is starting to stick… I can only explore by foot so fast and so far 😂 looking forward to following on 🤩 congrats on the new series!!
Well there is always the options of riding to remote trail heads on the bike then hiking on foot.
Awesome, glad to have you back Joe. You have a place to stay in Daphne, Alabama (near Mobile) should you get down this way. Keep em coming...🏍
Great to be back, oh right along the 10, well I'll definitely take a not of that, thanks for the offer.
Awesome intro Jo.... Looking forward to seeing what else you get up to on the South Island. Cheers for sharing all your Adventures Mate.. 😀

@@freewayproject You’ve done an amazing job rooting out some great camp spots. I look forward to your next vids. Great style too.
Good stuff, land of my birth. moved to au from Tauranga. Camped and dived lottin point a few time when younger, my sister in law still camps there every year with her friends. Gisborne's one of the few place I personally haven't been to. Citizen Au back in 2008 so can't see my ever moving back there now. Looking forward to the rest of your journey, esp on the mainland (SI)
Thanks mate, that was an awesome surprise riding down that dirt track through the trees and seeing that stunning empty bay. Lots of episodes to come.
Love this Joe🤟. I look forward to more
Thanks JB, there is a lot more to come.
Just fantastic Joe, A great first episode look forward to the next . Thank you for the video.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed the first episode.
Good to see you back on the road Joe. Look forward to following along 😎
Great to be back, there's lots to come.
@10:42 a bit of trivia for you Joe. The building that is coming into the frame from the left is/was a rock crushing plant. The unusual triangular shape is because it is built using some of the recycled piers from the Otoko Viaduct. The viaduct was on the Moutohora Branch which was built with the intention of eventually meeting up with the East Coast Main Trunk that was terminated at Taneatua. The Moutohora Branch closed in 1953.
Good to see you in NZ, lots more of the scenery is familiar to me.
Anthony.
I did notice that building, oh i wish I had that bit of information before I edited haha. I love interesting facts about things and places.
Hi Joe, along with a lot of others I really enjoyed that introduction. Really cool. Congratulations on the loan bike from Royal Enfield !! Awesome campsites so far. Looks like a beautiful place. It’s on my bucket list.
Your ROAM poster looks great on my wall.
Enjoy NZ, I’m looking forward to the upcoming episodes. 👍🇦🇺
thanks Kent, great to hear you enjoyed the first episode. Yes very grateful for the loan of the motorbike, it wouldn't have been possible with out it.
New Zealand is an epic place to explore definitely do it.
Stoked you liked the poster.
Beautiful as always! We were wondering where you were, now we know. So nice of RE NZ to lend you a Scram. I thought the Scram had a USB port under the left switch pod like the Himalayan, it's odd how RE changes things up. I had a similar idea about how to get the Rinowalk bags through an airline. I was just going to strap the bags together and try not to worry, your way is better. Rinowalk does make a universal heat shield that clamps on to the muffler, but I think you could fashion similar out of a bit of tin and some large hose clamps.
Yes very grateful that they lent me the bike. Apparently some version did have a USB port but not this one. Yes I have been in a lot of airports and have actually heard checking staff say to people you have strapped 2 bags together so it's classed as 2 bags. So I got the bag that goes over my 70L hiking backpack (the bag is light and tough an used for when putting the back pack on the plane so all the straps and buckets don't get destroyed by baggage handlers). I got the 2 side panniers my 40L top bag, my tank bag and my helmet in there, all that under 23kg.
Hi there, glad to see you made it to NZ- was wondering when to see something from you next 😉. Looks amazing- great video and pics. Cheers from Lombok Eva
Stoked to be In NZ, it's an amazing place to explore, awesome trails and mind-blowing scenery.

Good to see your back mate. Looks like it's going to be another awesome series looking forward to some more.
Good to be back, New Zealand is amazing, the further into the series the better it gets.
What a fantastic start to an amazing journey. Looking forward to the next instalment and to see your thoughts on the SCRAM vs the Himalayan.
New Zealand is an amazing place to explore. Yes I'll share my thoughts along the way the do a review of the Scram and how it compares the the Himalayan.
Great video ....was enjoying it. Best from Germany
Thanks mate, it's great to hear you enjoyed the episode. I hope you enjoy the reset of the series.
Well done Joe looking forward to seeing more good to see Enfield. Giving you recognition
thanks mate, it's an epic place to explore, epic trails and mind-blowing scenery .
I've been there in 2004. Most wonderful country! The whole world on two islands.😊😍
Yes, so many unique landscapes all incredibly beautiful
Unfortunatelly l drove 5 weeks by car 6000 km. Basic idea was to explore the land on horseback, but too much fences are around so you would force to ride mostly on roads. So the alternative is to switch on a motorcycle. Is on my bucketlist to see NZ again.
Probably it will be a Royal Enfield! 😉
Great to see you back on the road Joe
You were saying you changed your normal jacket for a warmer one for NZ
Gotta tell ya, I'm lovin my "Merlin" summer jacket that you recommended
Looking forward to seeing your South Island adventure
Great to be back. Yes there has been no need for a summer jacket here haha. yes that Merlin one is great.
The south island is an amazing place to explore, awesome trails, great camp spots and mind-blowing scenery.
Brilliant Joe. I’m loving this and will take notes as I’m planning my trip for next Feb. shipping my bike over and camping for 6 weeks.
Cheers. Annie
Definitely worth doing, trails are awesome, the scenery is mind-blowing and great places to camp. I think February is the best time. I was delayed a bit but still good weather.
Welcome back Joe! OMG NZ this is going to be an epic series!
Good to be back, New Zealand is an awesome mind blowing place, so much fun to ride and explore.
Sooooo glad you’re on another adventure! I’ll watch when I get home from work. 😊Can’t wait!
Stoke to be on another adventure. I hope you enjoy it.
Gosh I missed you 😊 you’re such an inspiration! I saw horses lol🐎
Watched some other motorcycle travel videos and none have the fantastic production yours have. You may have done this before. It looks like another great series, thank you.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it. (I do have a back ground in making documentaries).
@@freewayproject I think I might have seen some of the ones you talked about in previous videos. You do have a real talent, your photography is brilliant.
Amazing for your video. Very nice and beautiful for Exploring New Zealand by motorbike. I love your video. Thanks for your sharing.🥰
It's great to hear you are enjoying the New Zealand series. The new series has just started, its is riding and exploring through the Himalayas. There is also some other series riding around Australia if you are interested. Thanks for watching.
@@freewayproject Ok, great, thanks.
Joe, your adventures are superb. I enjoyed a car road trip with a friend over the north island. Can't wait to do a bike trip next time.
Keep rocking mate. Cheers.
Thanks mate, it's great to hear you are enjoying the series. The south Island is a lot of fun to explore on a motorbike, definitely worth doing. Thanks for watching.
Nice. We traveled around NZ for 3 months in 2017 with my brother. He was bringing a 200 kg upright piano at the back of his Land Rover. Since the car was sucking 25l/100km, we were quite tight on budgets. But anyway we made it and it was my biggest adventure until today. I wish we can travel there again in the future with my wife, slower and on a motorcycle, ideally Royal Enfield Classic 350.
That does sound like an adventure. Yes a slow exploring trip on a Royal Enfield Classic 350 would be a great way to see New Zealand. Thanks for watching the first episode of the New Zealand series, I hope you enjoy the rest of the series.
So excited about this new season you’ve started, Joe! Question for you that I’ve been meaning to ask since the last season - how do you avoid dust with your camera gear (specifically with your SLR - does your backpack do a good job of keeping the dust out?)? Especially when riding gravel all day?
I am glad you are along for the ride.
Probably the main reason I avoid dust is I ride alone (most of the time), most dust normally comes from other vehicles. Also yes the backpack which is a Shimoda (shimodadesigns.com) is design for this type of thing, keeping snow (water) and dust out. So I have never really had an issue with dust. I also have sensor cleaners with me as I need to change the lens a far bit.
I went through Wānaka and there was a camera store charging sensor cleaning starting at $90, you can buy a sensor cleaning pack of 10 for $20 and it takes less than 2 mins, I've been doing it for years in the middle of nowhere and never had an issue cleaning it. The camera stores try to scare people off from doing it yourself so they can make easy money.
Ride off to an awesome start. Really looking forward to this as I want to do a trip like this in the not too distant future. It was a bit of luck to get the bike as one of the frustrating things is that it is pretty cheap to rent a car in NZ but bloody expensive to rent bikes.
Thanks mate, it is an epic place to explore so definitely do it. Yes I am very grateful for the loan of the bike.
The most free feeling comes to us by sitting on a motorbike with endless journeys! Sending you greetings from Vietnam 🖤
Great words, totally agree. I hope to get to Vietnam soon to explore.
@@freewayproject Hope to see you in Vietnam my friend !
That looks like an amazing journey. Looking forward to your future travels. If you're heading back up to the North Island and you need a place to stay, we're only 30 mins from the ferry.
Welcome to stay.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed the first episode. It is an amazing place to explore the trails are epic and the scenery is mind-blowing. Thanks for the offer.
@@freewayproject Thanks for your reply. By the way, I meant we're 30 mins from the Picton ferry.
Nice Start Joe. Looking forward to more episodes of NZ.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it.
Most excellent once again Joe! Looking forward to tagging along. Hopefully the weather Gods smile upon you 🙏
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it. Yes should be good, but it is NZ so rain and cold are guaranteed .
Beautiful video editing. And love the sincerity tone that you have set. Wish you safe travels and many more such adventures.
Thanks Narayan, it is great to hear you enjoyed the episode, I hope you like the rest of the series.
I just loved that journey. Brings back memories of where I was born. Can't wait to see more. Just a word of Warning my friend---It gets really cold in N.Z. Take care.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it. Yes it gotten down to 1 degree a little chilly.
Well done, Joe! Looking forward to following along, safe travels
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed the first episode. NZ is an amazing place to explore, there is a lot to come
Hey Joe, you are back already! Impressive. And what a great intro!
Look forward to discovering the South Island with you!
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it. NZ is an epic place to explore.
Fantastic Joe. Been wondering where you had gone and hoping to see something soon. Pumped for this series.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it. Yes took me a bit to get it sorted, I think the episodes (tacks and scenery) should get better the further into the series we get.
Oh that's some serious editing those first 2 mins! And a great video Joe, look forward to watching the series unfold. Thanks mate 👍👍
Thanks mate, I picked out just the best shots for that first part, it started at over 15mins 😳 so had to whittle it down to under 2min. But it will all appear in the up coming series. The place is epic to explore, so many cool tracks.
Loving this Joe………N.Z is one of my favourite places
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it. Yes it is an amazing place to explore.
@@freewayproject keep up the great work Joe. I see their have big Raps on the Enfield maybe you should him them up when you get back
Duuuuuuuddddeee!! 😂❤ THAT intro of yours made me want to get up, pack up and leave asap, in the middle of the night. My brother's just been there to NZ and I've been contemplating, then this video pops up! Thanks, Mr. Joe.
Great to hear you are liked the first episode, NZ is definitely worth exploring, I barely scratched the surface there is so much here.
Stoked to see u back brother and In Nz this is going to be awesome
Good to be back, New Zealand is an awesome mind-blowing place to explore.

@@stevematalone2512 yes it was, I am vet grateful
Great to see you back so soon Joe. NZ is unreal for a motorcycle trip NZ is my second home and lucky enough to have done a few trips around the place as I have a bike stored there with family. South Island especially is a treat! Looking forward to the series.
BTW I have the 450 on order. Cant wait to collect from the dealership soon. After riding a mates 411 and watching your series convinced me to pick one up. As you have said in one of your vidoes it's perfect exploring bike which is my wheelhouse now I'm in my early 40's and take it a little slower.
Good to be back. New Zealand is epic to explore, awesome trails and mind-blowing scenery.
Apparently the 450 is a good step above the 411 so it should be a lot of fun.
Brilliant!
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed the first episode.
Hi Joe. Nice to see you back on the road again. Place looks good very nice camping spot by the water. Cant wait for the next video. Cheers John from gold coast.
It is good to be back, NZ is an epic place to explore, great trails and mind-blowing scenery and yes great camping spots.
Wowwwww... grettrings from Portugal
Olá Ricardo, espero que você goste do passeio
love your footage as well as your narration!
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it.
Moving to NZ next year 😍
Well there are plenty of amazing places you'll get to explore, it is an amazing place.
When I saw your video I thought I would do this trip in something like a Royal Enfield Himalayan. And when I saw 411 Scram, I was pleasantly surprised by your choice
They are both quite similar, I didn’t tackle anything to difficult off road so the scram was capable, it’s also a bit better on the road twisty stuff because of the 19 inch front wheel. I probably would have been on a Himalayan, but Royal Enfield kindly let me a bike and they had only the scram there. I was surprised how well it handled the off-road stuff
G'day Joe.
I have been frothing to see your NZ series begin as I've been to the South many times and absolutely love the South. Haven't done it by motorbike but is definitely on my to do list.
I now own a 2021 Himmy so I'm about to start hitting the dirt and relearning how to dirt ride.
Can't wait to watch your next episode.
Enjoy. 😁
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed the first episode anther 16 to come. NZ is an epic place to explore, trails are so much fun and the scenery is mind-blowing.
Love it Joe - can’t wait to see your Te WaiPounamu coverage. Wish RE had provided you with a 450, but reckon you were probably too early. They wont quite be in the country yet! Regardless, the scram should do the job.
Thanks mate, great to hear you enjoyed it. The Te WaiPounamu is mind-blowing, other worldly. Yes the 450 isn't there for a bit longer and the track will start to close by then and it will be a lot colder, the Sram is doing the job.
Great to see you out about Joe
It seems such a lovely place looking forward to the rest of the adventure
Safe riding
Thanks
Dave
It's great to be out exploring again Dave. New Zealand is an amazing place to explore and breathtaking scenery. I hope you enjoy the series.
Wow, looking forward to this series. NZ is a favourite place. Spent 6 weeks there 22 years ago, and recognised quite a few places in your intro. Hope to go back one day when we ditch the kids! Cheers,
I hope you enjoy the new series Neil, yes definitely an amazing place to explore.
Great to see you back on the channel 😉. Enzed, what a great choice and judging by the roads so far you are going to have a hoot of a time while we watch and suffer with FOMO. Nice of RE to offer you a ride, well deserved.
Great to be back, yes New Zealand is an amazing place to explore and yes very grateful for the loan of the bike.

Such a soothing video
Thanks mate, it's great to hear you enjoyed the first episode of the new series.
My brother in law went to NZ and said it was mind blowing . He would love to ride a motor bike there . When he returned back home , he said that I would never would want to travel NSW again , once I have seen NZ . I will one day visit NZ when the time is right . The scenery is epic in NZ and I can’t wait to go . Having said that I still love our national parks in Australia .your video is very nice thank you !
Yes mind-blowing does sum it up, it is definitely worth going and exploring there.
NSW has some incredible places to explore I see it as just different than NZ no worse no better, unique in it's own way. For example the first episode of the A rough idea series going out to the "Walls of China" in Mungo National park was mind-blowing on sunset.
@@freewayproject I love to see that too ! I can’t wait to watch more of your videos !
So great to see you back on the road again Joe.

Thanks mate, great to be back, NZ is an epic place to explore, so many epic trails and the scenery is mind-blowing.
Oh lordy I live in a beautiful place. Feeling pretty stoked I get to go on a roady down to Queenstown tomorrow. Gotta learn to cherish it every time!!!

Hi mate, it's great to hear you enjoyed the fist episode, New Zealand is an amazing place to explore.
Looking forward to see NZ through your Camera!
enjoy!
Thanks mate, I hope you enjoy it.
Hi Joe. Your channel popped up in my feed yesterday. I’ve since watched all of the parts to your last roam which I enjoyed immensely. I will go back and catch up on your other adventures, but looking forward to the NZ trip. You truly inspire me to get out and adventure, currently I’m building an adventure bike out of a 90’s Kawasaki KLE 500, only problem we have in the UK is the lack of trails and tracks like you have down-under, but I’m sure there’s plenty to explore before heading out into Europe. All the best, Richard
Thanks Richard, great to hear you are enjoying the series. That bike build sounds like a fun project and yes definitely get out there, you never know what you might find.
I think you should consider creating a photography course, those pics are always amazing.
Thanks mate, stoked you like them, I'll have to look into that in the future.
Looking forward to seeing your NZ adventure. Your stills will be epic I’m sure.
I hope you enjoy it.
Hay mate I just got back from a 11 trip away on my bike it was from Wodonga to Adelaide , a lot off off road stuff including Big desert. Did Flinders 2 years ago . Anyway I did NZ on a bike about 5 years ago , I free camped , pub , Van park and pack packers - I found it hard to free camp 🏕️. Was the best trip I have ever done ✅. Enjoy mate you will love it .
They sound like some awesome rides, the Flinders is an awesome place to ride. Yes riding through the south Island has been awesome, great tracks and epic scenery. Finding places you can pitch a tent is challenging for sure, they seem to let vans/cars/RV camp anywhere, but I have manage to always find a place The App WikiCamp helped.
I hope you enjoy the series.
@@freewayproject As always mate ! , hope you have a blast in NZ essentially South Island. Yes if your a RZ and have your own crapper 🚽 , your fine “ haven’t they heard of digging a hole 🕳️ 😂, “ or waiting to get to one ☝️ the following day . My recent trip cost my 65.09 per day total ( would have been 55 but love 2 coffees per day ) 😂😂😂.
I have the Scram here in Europe and it might struggle on severe off road conditions. I am looking forward to this series to show me some of NZ that didn't get to see when I did a road trip there back in 2009. Good luck for the trip.
The Scram has done surprisingly well, I haven't taken it on any really steep rocky hill climbs as yet but the rougher tracks and river crossing it is doing well.
Awesome stuff mate, your previous series inspired me to ride Tasmania early this year and will do the high country next year. Highly motivational. Keep them coming.
Thanks mate, that is awesome to hear, I hope Tasmania was fun, the high country is awesome to explore too.
Great to see you back again Joe and I’ll be looking forward to seeing you roam in NZ this season on the Scram
Great to be back, New Zealand is an amazing place to explore, there should be around 16 episodes in this series.
Stumbled upon this, cool stuff
