  • The Suzuki V-Strom is a mid-weight sport touring motorcycle made by Suzuki since 2004. It is considered the jack of all trades motorcycle. It can easily adapt to a wide range of different environments and terrains. The reliability of the V-Strom is legendary and has a huge loyal following.
Many people often ask the question how long does a Suzuki V-Strom last? It depends on the maintenance of the motorcycle. If it has been taken care of many owners have reported way past 100,000 miles.

In 2016 I drove my Wee from Florida to Deadhorse/Prudhoe to Ushuaia then circumnavigated South America and back with zero problems. Over 55K miles and still have it today. K.I.S.S. is the way!

Than you for the comment. Your motorcycle trip with the Wee sounds wonderful! Your V-Strom with 55k miles is barely broken in. Many owners report having over 100,000K mies and still going strong with just routine maintenance. Take care out there and ride safe.

I love this, long live the Vstrom!
I have an '04 vstrom 650 that I picked up last spring. I rode from Denver to San Diego and back a few weeks ago, it was such a great experience. I love how simple my bike is. I don't have a ton of cash to spend on motorbikes, so the Vstrom was one of the best options for me. The simplicity makes it not only cheaper to buy but also cheaper and easier to maintain!

In 2020 I traded in a BMW R1200 GS Adventure on a new V-Strom 650 XT Adventure. Three riding seasons and almost 30,000 trouble free miles on the Suzuki I have found that only thing the V-Strom lacks that the BMW would do is riding at over 80 mph. The V-Strom will do over 80 mph but does not like it. Fuel milage drops from the low 50's into the low 30's.
I installed a MC Cruise, electronic cruise control unit last winter. After two long trips this past season I am more than happy with the cruise control. Set the control for 8-9 over posted speed limit and the unit hold the speed dead on according the GPS, up and down hills.
The V-Strom is a bargain in the world of motorcycles, I can purchase almost 3 V-Strom for the price of a BMW GS. Parts are also cheap for Suzuki.

Always there, never complains and makes me smile just looking at it let alone hit the road for another adventure. Bought it without a test ride and has never let me down. 71 yrs old this year and have no plans to stop riding my Strom. Love the video and sentiment. Thank you.

“Now, I don’t care how fast I go. I just care where I go”. ❤️ Beautiful. I’m 60 as well. I ride a 2016 Honda VFR800X Crossrunner in Portugal where I mostly live, and a 2013 Wee in Germany where I’m frequently. While the Crossrunner is a bit more fun, the Wee is in my heart, for exactly what you pointed out in your video. 👍👍👍👍👍

When i bought my gen 3 pearl white DL 650 in '17 I wasn't that familiar with Vstroms. Rode it hard for 35k miles. Not one problem, except a blown low beam bulb. Loved it. It was the base model and wanted the beautiful spoked wheels. Heard about it's replacement P Strom and wanted another 650. Bought a black and blue '22 650 Adventure. Wasn't sure if it would equal the '17. It does. The PStrom will never rack up the miles all over the planet that gen 1-3 has.Let alone as trouble free.Long live the real "V" Stroms!

I've been riding for 50 years. I started out on a 60cc Bridgestone as a kid and never looked back. I have now owned scores of bikes of every make, model and persuasion - usually 3 or 4 at a time - and have put hundreds of thousands of miles on them. Several years back, I chose a lightly used, 2013 DL650 ABS Adventure for my primary retirement bike. It has been such a pleasure to own and ride. I am now wondering if it will be the bike that outlasts me. Either way, I think I want a picture of it on my tombstone.

Simply put: No other motorcycle in the world does so many things so incredibly well and with such ease and aplomb, and at this type of price point. The vaunted GS, of which I've owned 2, are no better but certainly require much more fanfare and prep to set up and ride.

Good review. I've been riding for over 40 years and bought my 2013 DL650A from new. Such an easy to ride and reliable bike to own. Have ridden in all weathers and the bike is always stable and predictable. For long rides the seat is super comfortable, my daughter loves the pillion seat and position. Easily copes with motorway speeds although I did upgrade the screen to reduce buffeting. After 2 years in storage during covid started first time of asking. Have considered changing for a more sophisticated bike but can't bear to part with my V-Strom. Also own a XJR 1300, which is a completely different experience, but if I want a nice calm ride in the countryside it has to be the v-strom every time.

Mine is 17 years old, still looks and rides like new. Bought it as a winter hack and now in two minds about using it until I remembered “it’s 17, it’s seen a few winters already!”. I’ve owned a lot of bikes and my current bmw is complex, expensive to repair and not got a great reliability record. The suzuki is indestructible, robust, comfortable and simple. It just works and keeps on working and working and working. Best bike ever made? No. Most dependable? Very likely. Most comfortable? Up there with them. Can it be off roaded? Yes, or at least on mild single track or gravel. Will it tour? Yes. Enough grunt to overtake safely? Yes. Economical? Yes. Brilliant? Yes by it’s dependability and versatility.

The beauty of the Vstrom is, you can get an older model ( 2011-2015 ) totally decked out with 25,000 miles on it for less than $6k. I’ve seen a few for less than $5k with all the bells and whistles…. Just think, you’ve bought a bike ready to travel basically anywhere on the planet for $5k and it still has at least a good 80k miles or more to go… no other manufacturer even comes close!!!

Thank you for the comment and your insight. I agree with you 100%. The Susuki V-Strom is a truly capable and go anywhere motorcycle with allot of value for the money. You are absolutely correct that no other manufacture even comes close. The Suzuki V-Strom 650 can easily do over 100,000 trouble free miles with basic routine maintenance. Take care and ride safe out there.

I recently bought the SV 650 after many years of absence. Struggled with the uncomfortable seat, modified it and am happy now. Checked on the V-Strom, hm... ok, 20 mm more travel, more wind protection and that´s it. It is a great bike, for sure. I will keep it even more KISS and stay with the SV 😀 I am happy for you that you found the bike that just gives peace of mind and lets you enjoy the one thing that matters - the journey itself.

I have also owned several bikes, up to the Bmw RT. I am now on my 2nd vstrom it's a 2015. Exactly as you described. I would call it the ultimate tourer, not an adventure bike. And also the most comfortable one, which will go more miles on one tank, than any other in its category. And even larger tourers and adventures.
It has another drawback, besides replacing air filter. Replacing the bottom spark plugs😅

I've been street riding for more than 40 years. Like you, have owned a bunch of different kinds and brands. Not long ago I found a well-kept '04 V1K. Did some updates and put over 10K miles on it. Ran across a babied - but ridden - '18...and bought it. Within a month, put 2K miles on it. They are, indeed, one of the best motorcycles ever made, and for the reasons mentioned; but even more. They handle, stop, and go REALLY well. With the right tires, it can carve up any mountain road. Add trouble-free, great comfort, and low running costs. What's not to like?! As you said, it's more important to focus on where you're going to go, not on being concerned about getting there five minutes earlier or what other riders think. These bikes allow each journey to be all about the ride. Enjoy yours!

Nice presentation right there!! I have recently purchased and also riding for 2000 klms so far, and coming from a cruiser background for most of my riding adventures, this DL650 is a very nice bike to ride. Cornering on the tar is predictable and has a specific willingness to go full commando 😊 It's a very tolerant bike and sometimes, taking it into the higher rev ranges produces great results.

nice vid. i bought my Vstrom 650 new in october 2016 [gen2 with a nice discount] when the new gen 3 was just released. i like the looks of gen 2 more with the double headlights . i did a test ride on it and i knew in 10 minutes that it was a really nice bike to drive , not the fastest but good useble midrange power , very nice in the corners and superb comfort. i,m 58 and had about 30 very different bikes form a yamaha rd350 2stroke to a kawa zzr1200 and everything inbetween and for me this is now the perfect bike .very reliable , very economical [ max5500 rpm ] good roadmanners etc. when i was younger i always wanted more power and speed , now not any more because of crazy speedfines and 1000,s of speedbumbs and idiot insurance costs [ in holland ] also i dont give a shit about what other people think of my weestrom. i like it , i own it , i have fun and adventures with it and thats all that counts. and make no misstake , on very twisty mountain roads with short straights the 650 is quicker than most realise ... yes, jack of all trades.

You may have just resold me my bike. I have thought about selling it recently. In the south east, highways are a 85mph freakshow, last summer I did a 1600 mile trip in 6 days. Nice review. I am older and was considering buying a BMW RS1200 as my return to motorcycle touring. Then sat on a 650 in a showroom and thought it made sense ergonomically and actually met my intended uses better. I don't want to go 85 MPH on the highway. I want to tour two lane roads and gravel roads. I think of it as a trusted horse. It is comforting gassing this thing up and hitting the next town. Has a very reassuring idle. I often run it through the gears to tell myself, does it have power? Yes if you wring it out, but it is so docile in normal riding. It keeps me from driving like I am racing, but it is entertaining on a twisty road. I wouldn't mind a bit more torque and throttle response when coming out of a twisty corner. (Maybe if it was tuned for premium fuel)... but that might also defeat the KISS principle. Also love the dash board. Nothing flashy, but all you need and well presented. Such a great horse. My only gripe is the body work is not robust when removing the gas tank. These plastic bits will snap quite easily after the third time removing them. Also hard to access the light bulb.

    • @pedlpower
      @pedlpower 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

The next time you take the bodyworks off, put a thin coat of silicone grease on all the catches. It will make removing them later much easier. I also put a little sewing machine oil on the fastener threads to keep them in good shape.

Had my '05 V-strom for 2 years now, its a hard bike to replace, nothing else seems good enough to justify spending that much mor money on.
My bike has 82,000km on it and i did have to do a bit to it when i got it, i had to do the cam chains and tentioners, i had to do a new starter motor and starter solanoid, i had to do the start switch, the clutch and the clutch screw adjuster, then all the normal maintenance such as the breaks and valve timing.
I own 3 motorcycles including a 1/4L cruiser for bopping around town and my farm bike for harder trails and between all of them i have clocked up 26,000km in the last 3 years, and i still think the only thing i would like on the V-strom is cruise control.
I regularly do trips of 3-400km and even when large stretches are on gravel or dirt road i find i still need to travel on tar seal to get to those roads and often those are motorways and expressways where you get hours of straight and the same speed the whole way.
I have a damaged wrist from being hit by a car and it would be nice to rest it but, apart from that the bike just keeps going and so i guess I'll keep riding it till i find something as good with cruise control.
I have been looking at the CF Moto 800mt, but its a bigger bike, has less fuel range (i do about 400km on my 22L tank), but again its a simple bike with the exception of cruise control and 2 ride modes, for a good price and the engine is a KTM.
What would you change if given the choice?
