This was such a fun . Burch tells the story of how he got fired from his job for going to this concert and on the way to the concert, his cars engine blew. Motley Crue was a very requested . Wild Side was on the Girls Girls Girls album released in 1987.

Being a teenager in the 80's (graduated HS in 86), it was fun seeing everyone wearing the concert tee shirts from the previous concert that everybody had gone to over the previous weekend. Man I miss those days.

Class of 85 here. The "Rock" concert scene during the 80's was truly off the charts. MOTLEY CRUE, KISS, BON JOVI, IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST, JOURNEY, CINDERELLA, DOKKEN, POISON, TWISTED SISTER, SCORPIONS, and so on, and so on. Wearing rock t-shirts to school was the bomb.

I was only 9 in ‘87…I wish I had been born 10 years earlier so I could have really experienced the ‘80s rock and metal scene.
I wasn’t really into grunge as a teen in the ‘90s. I appreciate it now, but I’ve always gravitated more towards ‘70s and ‘80s music.

I was in the 6th grade and the kid that sat next to me in math class was listening to music with his headphones on. I asked what it was. It was this song. I borrowed the cassette and bought my own copy the next day. I returned my friend his copy and he said "if you liked that, try this one" and loaned me Master of Puppets. A metalhead was born that day.

I saw them in '87 with Guns n Roses opening...it was debauchery at its finest,lol...what Burch is saying is so true about Guns....no one that i knew, knew who these guys were. I had heard the name because I had read an article in Metal Edge...and didnt know the first thing about them at the time. The were an insane live band. I look to that time as unforgettable time in my life....a badge of honor if you will....of seeing Guns before their rise of fame...I loved that Guns era...sleaze at its best.

I saw the Crue on this tour at the Day On The Green in Oakland. I was stationed at Ft. Ord, CA. A few things worth noting. First is that Emi Canyn (RIP) who was one of the Nasty Habits was from my hometown Tacoma. The guy who taught me live and studio engineering was Motley Crue's monitor engineer for the first couple of shows before taking over as the house engineer for Whitesnake, designed the cable rigging that allowed all the cables to wrap and unwrap properly when Tommy's set would spin. It was a great show, with Poison, and Whitesnake, as the supporting acts. Heathler Locklear was at the show, you could see her just off the stage.

As a 41 yr old Crue head this is easily my favorite vid from Flickering Box aside from Skid Row vids of course. Having Alexi's experience from watching The Dirt added throughout the song was a great way to bring it together. Great job guys. Thank you.🤘💪🌞🤙

I saw them in 1989 for the Dr. Feelgood Tour at the Worcester Centrum. Warrant opened. Probably the greatest rock show I've ever seen. Tommy Lee's drum kit was suspended from the ceiling! Then I went up with a friend to see them in Maine at an outdoor venue. I think this was 1990. My friend's car overheated and we had to run the heat (this was summertime) both ways to keep the car functioning. This show was very violent. Security was tossing rowdy people off the bleachers. It was crazy. Tesla opened. Both bands played abbreviated sets and we were happy when it was over. In the video, I though this was actual footage of Nikki Sixx getting hit by pyrotechnics. I thought it knocked him out. Not sure if it's true. But I remember hearing that back in the day.

I get close and holy shit, it IS Def Leppard.
I don't know if it was a last minute gig or the venue just didn't advertise but I got to see them free and front row, if there was a row.

I saw Motley Crue on their Dr. Feelgood tour... in Hawaii. The Blaisdell Arena was notorious at the time for having seriously second rate gear... I saw Cheap Trick there and they were horrible using Blaisdell's gear, but when Motley Crue came they brought all their gear with them which was huge back then. The show they put on was absolutely electric from start to finish.. was just pumping those vibes the entire show!

  • @BlackieNuff
    @BlackieNuff ปีที่แล้ว +2

Hahaha, that spinning drum kit was all anyone could talk about following their show.
The following tour, they had to of course top the rotating kit - what they came up with was a suspended kit, carried over the crowd.
I didn't see the GIRLS tour show, but I saw the FEELGOOD show (in Winnipeg), so at least I saw one of the shows with the iconic drum kit rig.

Burch, like you, I went to that 1987 concert (but in Birmingham, AL) knowing very little about GNR. Had read articles professing to their greatness, but hadn't heard them yet. After their set I went and bought a GNR T-Shirt and went straight to the record store the next day to buy Appetite! That is forever in my mind a GNR concert that the Crue was a closing act for LOL.

Glad to see you enjoyed this. Motley Crue and Iron Maiden are my favorite bands of all time. I discovered both around 1982. I first saw Motley Crue live at the US Festival before the release of the Shout At The Devil album and their tour with Ozzy. I was a drummer and only 12 at the time. I grew up in Southern California. My first ever show that I performed at in Hollywood was at the Starwood and it was Motley's last show in the clubs before going out with Ozzy. I can attest that the Hollywood scene back then was even crazier than they showed in the Dirt. I was a regular performer during those days from 82-89 and saw just about all of the bands that went through the scene. Either sharing a bill with them or just being in the audience. I don't know if Burch ever paid much attention to Hollywood club bands, beyond those that made it nationally. I would like to suggest you check out a band called Lizzy Borden. They had a few hits later in their career, but never really took off nationally. I would suggest you check out the song American Metal. You can find a live performance from their Murderous Metal Road Show which was released on DVD and can be found on TH-cam. I don't think they did a studio version video, but I've seen lyrics videos for that song on TH-cam as well.

Hey Burch. I’ll share my Crue concert story with you. 1987, Knoxville , Tennessee inside Thompson Boling Arena. I was 13 years old going to see Crue for the first time with three of my friends all 13 as well. We had seats 1-4 so they gave me the fourth seat so they didn’t have the “end” seat and I was the only one that wouldn’t know the person by me. About 10 minutes before G@R this group of 5 to 6 shows up wanting to come down our role. Coming in last of the group was this beautiful blonde well developed young lady. The group was around 17-20 years old. As soon as I saw her was like oh please sit next to me and to my wonderful delight she did exactly that. Now remember I was 13 and hadn’t quite hit that growth spurt so as we both stood I was right above her chest. So once it started she of course stood and bounced up and down a lot. I couldn’t help but keep one eye on the stage and the other on her. About half way through girls girls girls she turns looks at me and says “hey kid go home and tell your mommy what you saw” at that point she pulls everything up and well you know what happened next. I should say I was in an enjoyment shock and the three boys that didn’t want my seat was all of sudden trying to knock me out of it.
Great memories of definitely a different but super great time.

It was so common back then that I guess I forgot about most of it, but shows really WERE like a mutual admiration society, with the performers getting off on the crowd & their energy, and the crowd getting off on the music. It was like we all just had to go moderately berserk for a couple of hours simply to let off the steam that was generated by how much effing FUN we were all having in that one big room......

  • @wilson2112

Very similar story; We were on our way to see them on that same tour. I had just bought a 1970 and 1/2 Z28 a couple months earlier. We made it to Chattanooga. We were driving in the interstate when suddenly smoke started coming out from under the dash, then flames. The car completely lost power. I coasted to the side of the interstate, put it in park. I blew out the fire, and quickly got out to raise the hood. The top of the engine has flames all over it. I was huffing and puffing and trying to blow out the flames. One of the two guys that were with me yelled "It's gonna blow!" And ran up the hill where the other guy already was. I took one more big breath and blew. The danger started to sink in, and I started running up the hill. I got part way, when it occurred to me, "All my tapes are in there! And my stereo!" "I think I blew the flames out..."
I went back and I had extinguished them. I was looking the engine over and I noticed that one wire had burned from the battery all the way to under the dash.
One guy stayed with the car, myself and the other guy, Jimmy started walking down the interstate trying to find a way off. The problem, tho was there were 12 ft fences on each side of the interstate. We continued walking and a Tennessee State Trooper pick us up. He had stopped at the car and the other guy had explained what was going on. The trooper gave us a ride to a parts store. I bought some 12 gauge wire. He drove us back to the car. Told me my drive out tags were illegal as Hell, and said he'd check back in awhile.
I rewired the jury rigged power line. Got in and tried it and it started right up!
We made it on time, and got to see the whole concert

So yeah, I think we had the best decade for music. I'm glad there are some amazing heavy metal groups today, but I don't see the heavy metal tribes we had in the 80s. There was nothing like walking down the street with your long hair flowing, your skull and cross bones t-shri and your tight jeans to make a statement! 😁 Rock on! \m/

The 80's was a great time to be a kid and into my teens. The world was far more fun then. No chance you could have 80's rock and metal like it was then in todays world. Which is damn sad.

Hi Alexis! Burch... you're freaking me out man! I saw the Girls, Girls, Girls tour and had the same otherworldly experience. However, I saw GNR open for the Cult in a 1200 seat arena around the same time. We were all, "Guns and what?" Around the same time I saw Metal Church open for Metallica on the Puppets tour in the same small venue. But for opening bands I had never heard of, I saw Bon Jovi boo'd off the stage when they opened for Judas Priest. But my favorite opening act was Thin Lizzy opening for Queen in '77.
    Keep the vids comin!

Loved her reaction. Our local area had a place named Hammerjacks, in Baltimore. I seen alot of bands come through there and there is a ton of craziness that comes with them. But it was all fun. I would not give it up for anything and would love to do it all over again.

Dude, those were the days! Our music back then was so exciting and exilerating. We were happy and had SO MUCH FUN! The music now is like, "Whoa is me. Poor, sad, pitiful me" I'm Gona go hurt myself now. Geez. I want the '80s back! WAAHHAAAHAAA😭😭😭😭😭😭😭. LOL. I will never forget those days. Well, some of them anyway 🤣🤣🤣
I went to see Def Leppard, their first show back after the drummer had lost his arm. It was AWESOME! 9 OF us piled into a little two seater Mazda, which was a 4 on the floor btw. We were sitting on top of each other, the smaller ones of us got smushed in the floor with someone on top of us. The only one who had their own seat was my boyfriend, who was driving. When we got there, he had to get out and pop the hatch for the trunk, which was used as a back seat. I will never forget when he popped that thing, kids just fell out the back, like in Cheech and Chongs van scene.🤣😂🤣😂🤣 We had belly hurting laughs and had a great time before we even got into the concert LOL
Like I said, the good ole days😊😊😊

Hi ALEXIS!!!!! HEY BURCH!!!!! I’m a huge fan from Montana. And I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! Your show is WAY different from a lot of wood be reaction channels that are springing up like gold was just discovered again lol. Burch, your massive career around music, and massive knowledge of musicians gives all of us a lot of details other channels don’t give. They are just reacting to good/bad music as it comes across their comments. You give us and Alexis more than just music. You give us a history lesson every-time you post a song. So thank you for that Superior Stare of Mind !! Chris Stone, Billings Montana. Oh and if you could, could you do a reaction to ACDC’s-RIDE ON, DOWN PAYMENT BLUES!! Pleaseeeeee💙💙🙏🙏🫶🫶

To this day it’s still one of my favorite cars. It had over 200k on it when it finally gave out and if I ever win the lottery I’ll have another one and have a concourse restoration done on it.

When Van Halen debuted, compared to most other successful bands, they had a 'raw' writing style and production. Then comes Motley Crue and they drop the bar down to almost primal values. It was an amazing time to be into rock. Most of the giants were still active, and music was branching off into various styles and splinter groups of those styles.

The 1st time I saw anything like Tommy Lee's spinning drum kit was a guy playing a baby grand piano that spun around end-over-end as it raised higher and higher at an Earth, Wind & Fire concert in 1975, I believe. "That's The Way Of The World" was the most popular song during that time for them. I'm convinced that was Tommy Lee's inspiration!

Saw the Crue in 1990 on the Feelgood tour, Tommy did the drumkit spinning thing with the "I had a crazy dream" gag which went over well (of course); my first and only time seeing Motley, even having the flu didn't stop me. Lucky I was nineteen at the time, must've sweated most of it out at the show!

Most common 80's phrase "I blew up my Gremlin" 🤣. I got a flat on the way to Yankee Stadium for the Division Bell tour, nowhere to pull over, road the rim a bit too long ('81 Datsun 240sx POS). Happy to see some Crue on the channel! Kickstart My Heart or Raise Your Hands To Rock would be great... or Home Sweet Home if Alexis wants an iconic ballad.

Man, I love it when y’all bring us some of my 80s rock-n-roll! Just the memories of cruisin’ the strip on Friday & Saturday nights & clawing thru my cassette case swapping albums! The big hair bands were a staple for all of us, mixed with 70s classic rock like Boston, Kansas & Skynyrd. Last 80s concert was Poison & Slaughter opened for them. Just a fantastic show! 😎🤘. (Burch, you mentioned Lakeland…I’m not too far from there. I retired from active duty & am up in Valdosta. (Wife & I are going to see Def Leppard this coming year! We are stoked!!)
