    Steph’s first time hearing this song and seeing this video, she loved it. Uncle Toms cabin is a song about two crooked cops in a small town that commit a murder. A young man and his uncle Tom were fishing when they witnessed the lawmen dumping the dead bodies in the swamp. Would you tell? Wow how cool is it to see commentary about one of my favorite of my dad’s songs on my recommended page! Loved your insights especially about hanging with them after their concert. Cherry Pie was iconic but he always loathed the box it put him in, this song definitely demonstrates his incredible storytelling abilities and amazing vocals. Thanks for including this in your series, he would be proud to see this 😊

      I am not going to lie, I read your comment and cried. I think if you read through the comments, it's crystal clear that your father was loved. Of all the bands that I have met, interviewed or just hung out with, only a few stand our for being extremely gracious and your dad was one of them. Jani is one of my go to guys when I am asked, who was the coolest band you ever met. He is truly missed by all of us that had the privilege to hear him perform at any level. You made my day. Thank your kind words Maddi.

      Cherry Pie was Warrant's "American Pie." So many bands during the mid to late eighties got lumped into the glam-hair metal genre, because of the mass overload of bands trying to get into the scene. Never considered Warrant as one of them. Great music like this never dies, it just has to be passed on down.

    Warrant punched way above the belt in regards to hair metal bands in general. Their sound was very tight, they were in sync as a band, and they were incredibly gifted in terms of story telling via song. I remember hearing this song when it came out and still enjoy hearing it today, it's a great piece of American music and culture from the late '80's and early '90's. Great to see younger folks embracing this genre of music. Cheers!

    • @irocitZ

      Hair metal is not a genre. It's a derogatory term that some no name music critic made up in the 90s, no one ever used the term hair metal back in the heyday to describe any band. Glam Metal perhaps, if you wish to categorize them.

    • @beyondbeleef1013
      @beyondbeleef1013 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hair bands were great. It's only derogatory if that's your intention when you use it. I personally grew up in that era and consider it the greatest era ever. The only era as good musically would be Motowns heyday

    • @irocitZ
      @irocitZ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beyondbeleef1013 what I meant was and I'm sure you probably remember as well, in the 80s no one referred to Heavy Metal bands as "hair bands". That term was used in the 90s during the grunge era and not in a good way. I realize you might hear it a lot nowadays but never in the 80s. Most of those bands aren't fans of it either, it doesn't do them any favors referring to them as such.

    • @beyondbeleef1013
      @beyondbeleef1013 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@irocitZ I'm 47 so I remember that time well and I get what your saying but I personally never thought of it as a disparaging title. I know some meant it that way but I always thought it fit pretty well for the era. I grew up in that era and loved it. As long as you don't mean it negatively I have no problem at all with you. As a matter of fact if you love that era as well I consider you a brother of sorts. I'm protective to a fault sometimes. I care too much. My apologies to you if I offended you

    • @irocitZ
      @irocitZ ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@beyondbeleef1013 I'm definitely a fan, pretty much everyone who knows me knows what music I'm into. Let's put it this way, I have an original Headbangers Ball denim jacket. During the late 90s when the 80s bands started doing shows again my friends and I would go see them, bands like Dokken, Vince Neil, Sebastian Bach, Quiet Riot and just about everyone else. It was like the flood gates had finally re-opened, since most of these bands were playing smaller clubs at first I wound up meeting many of these bands, just about everyone of them signed my Headbangers Ball jacket, so I'll assume we're brothers...🤘😛🤘

    So many great Warrant songs... "Mr. Rainmaker", "I Saw Red", "Sometimes She Cries", "Bed of Roses", "Heaven", the almost proggy "Bitter Pill". Really good band. ... Overall in the genre, lots of story-telling songs/videos, I'm excited to where your reactions go. Poison's "Fallen Angel" and "Something to Believe In". Faster Pussycat's "House of Pain". Cinderella's "Nobody's Fool". Queensryche's "Eyes of a Stranger". Or deeper cuts like Savatage's "When the Crowds are Gone" and "Gutter Ballet". Or perhaps even Marillion's "Sugar Mice".

    The band "Winger" is pretty good also. Somewhat similar sound. Although a bit heavier. Also 80's.

    Jani Lane God rest his soul was an amazing vocalist. Warrant as a whole was an incredible band. From power ballots to in your face rock these guys had all the bases covered.

    As I've probably said B4 I met Warrant in Brisbane Australia in 1990 , jani was the funniest guy, I woke up at 11 am. Very hung over , he paid for my cab home to Nundah Brisbane. Love that memory , !

    Fantastic song. Even just the intro guitar part on this (by Jani's brother Eric, I believe) is worth the price of admission.

    Jani Lane was an amazing singer and song writer. I agree, Warrant was amazing live. I saw them so many times in concert back in the day. Originally this album was called Uncle Tom's Cabin but the record company wanted a more poppy song, so Jani wrote Cherry Pie in one evening and the rest is history. I met the entire band in the 1990's when I worked at a rock radio station. RIP Jani Lane. Gone way too soon.

    I was not into the hair metal bands when I was a teenager in the 80's, more into thrash but I remember when I saw this video for the first time and thought, what an awesome song with great lyrics. Still a great song in 2023.

      One of my friends who was really into Merciful Fate when we were younger and then bands like Sepultura, he hated "fashion metal" as he called it but he really loved this song and video. Power of music Mike.

    I loved Warrant growing up. They were probably my favorite of the "hair metal" bands, though I always considered them above that.
    Fun fact, that acoustic intro was played by Jani Lane's brother on the album.

    Circa 1989; fifteen year old me was diagnosed with cancer. Had a 30% chance of surviving. I had a “boom box” 😂😂😂 in my hospital room and I rocked out to Warrant DRFSR, all day. I had the Young Adult Unit at Dayton Children’s rocking!!! That album and those songs got me through such a difficult time.

    I envy you man, so so very much. This song is such an inspiration for good story telling in great rock opera. I would give both nuts to sit and talk with the members of Warrant for just one minute. These guys were ahead of their time, and I was alive to witness it.
