    Jim Harvey was my uncle and we were always told that he did, in fact, design the Oilers logo. He was a very talented artist, but not much of a businessman.

      Thank you for the story. That’s exactly what I was hoping for; someone from his family to confirm the rumour. Did he leave any proof to the claim? From what I’ve researched, all evidence points to him being the designer.

      @@DiveInCanada I’m not sure. We have sent the video to everyone in the hopes of turning up real proof. We’ve just always known it to be true.

      It’s a pleasure to give him the credit he deserves. If you have any proof of his design, that would help a bunch for a follow up video.

    Everybody knows the logo was designed by Todd McFarl-oh right.
    Fantastic job man. You're closer than anybody has ever gotten to uncovering the secret. If you disappear mysteriously we'll know it was suspiciously related.

      Thanks. Hopefully the CIA doesn’t classify this as protected state secrets.

    3:31 - my first job out of university was as a security guard at the Standard Life Building in Calgary (639-5th Ave) circa 1997. One of my duties was to walk through every floor of offices after hours to ensure the lights were out. I seem to recall one of the firms in the building was named FWJ, and as you point out they were a marketing firm. I remember them because they had photos all over the walls of the (IMO) ugly jerseys the Flames adopted in 1995. I remember wondering why they were so proud of them. :-) These were the ones with the broad stripes on the bottom of the sweater, which took a 45 degree angle and crawled up the front before terminating below the team crest. They also introduced the colour black to the jersey, for no real reason, starting (or continuing) a distressing trend in Calgary football and hockey uniforms which continues to today.

      I know the exact jersey you're talking about! It's up there with the Vancouver "V" jersey and the Golden Seals for dislikes around the league. The logo is way to small on those ones. Not sure what they were thinking.

      @@DiveInCanada Strangely enough, I recall no photos of Edmonton hockey stuff on their walls, but of course that was 25 years ago so who knows. I imagine it would have been political suicide for them. Only other memories I have of their offices was "All I Wanna Do" being played on their office-wide radio every night (must have still been a top 40 song that year) and someone having a Bill the Cat cartoon posted up at their desk. Strange how the mind works. Would love to be able to report they had fingerprints over the Oilers too but just can't get my brain there for ya.

    • @DiveInCanada
      @DiveInCanada  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I wonder if their Edmonton offices would have had the Oilers stuff plastered on the walls? Hopefully someone has as good of a memory as yourself and can tell me. I appreciate your recollection. Thanks for the info!
      Sheryl Crow was pretty big in '97. I got a soft spot for that tune in my heart.

    Great research. There is something very Edmontonian about having taken zero steps to safeguard the history of the origins of the team’s logo. It reminds me of how the city itself knocks down historical buildings at a rate that would make other cities blush. Why this is exactly I don’t know but it would make for an interesting essay.

    This seems like a story local news should be on. I mean not just the story of the logo but the story of your hunt and your discovery (detailed in this video). A bit on the news, probably still watched by a bunch of older people, could hopefully trigger a memory.

    Until googling something for a joke, I didn’t realise Todd McFarlane was THAT action figure McFarlane. An exceptional video, albeit on a team I know little about. You sure McDavid didn’t make the logo?

    • @DiveInCanada
      @DiveInCanada  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes indeed. It was THAT MacFarlane. The Spawn guy. He grew up in Calgary but is a big Oilers fan.
      McDavid can do a lot of things. Take a 0-5 game and make it 6-5 by the end of the third, skate really fast, and have a fancy house. One thing he can't do is time travel and make the logo.... yet....
