In 1978, relatives of French impressionist master, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and film stars, Pierre and Jean Renoir, moved to Edmonton on the recommendation from former Oilers owner, Peter Pocklington. The next three decades would be tumultuous, for the ex-pats.

2:30 The solution to high taxes and declining quality of life is to move to Winnipeg? I may have to watch the video again. Nice inclusion of the artwork btw.

Apologies if that was confusing. There are a lot of similar names in this family. Pierre Auguste’s wife, Aline; Her father disappeared and reappeared in Winnipeg. That would be Paul’s great grandfather.
Paul was complaining about high French taxes and was coaxed here by Pocklington. Hope that clears it up.
      Thanks!

Man, Alberta just chewed up and spit out the Renoir family - and it all comes down to Peter Pocklington, go figure.

All roads lead to Pocklington it seems. Especially Edmonton in the 80’s.
Chewed up, spit out, but a few came back for more! We admire their tenacity.

People drift, especially over several generations.
My Paternal Grandparents had eight children. I have innumerable cousins, some of whom I have never met, scattered across Canada and the United States. So far as I am aware nobody is famous or trading on the family name, however.

Very true. Never say never ;). You might be royalty somewhere and you don’t know it.
