    6+ inches of bedding is so so so important! Please add more bedding. Hamsters are borrowing animals. It makes them feel safe and allows them to be natural which is something hamster owners should be providing! Add more bedding please.

    Both cages are a bit small. If you continue to care for hamster or ever get another one I’d definitely wait until you can provide more space for them. I think the minimum is so so small. 1000 square inches is the least I’d provide for a hamster.

    • @eatpoo650
      @eatpoo650 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree 450 is pretty small, but her bins are much over that minimum size. The bigger the better, but her sizes are much better than most hamster owners provide. 1000 Square inches is hard to fit in places, and if your goal is to save a hamster from a neglected life and their small 200 square inch critter trail, 600+ is perfect.

    • @eatpoo650
      @eatpoo650 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not to mention most GOOD hamster owners take their hamsters out of their cage for long periods of time, so they won't even be in the cage for most of their life.

    • @alainasmithyb
      @alainasmithyb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@eatpoo650 I agree with the helping and I think she’s doing fine for her hamsters. I just stated that in the future if she goes out to get another one that maybe she could use her Soave for a big cage. You don’t have to own a hamster so if you decide to you need to be mature enough to know if you can provide them the best life.

    • @alainasmithyb
      @alainasmithyb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@eatpoo650 also some hamsters are not at all willing to be social with there owners and do not enjoy coming out the cage or being played with. It’s not a must to take your hamster out or even socialize much. It doesn’t make you a bad hamster owner as sometimes less socialization is better for the type of hamster.

    • @velvetroblox1819
      @velvetroblox1819 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eatpoo650 actually, they shouldn’t be out of their cage a lot because they are solitary animals which is why they like to be by themselves.

    Just a suggestion. The 200 quart bins to me are the best. True not glamorous but here's the advantages. Easy to clean,move,. No bedding is thrown out to mess up your room. You can still see hamster. They are tall,less escape chance. More decorating opportunities.Easy to get hanster out with less stress cause you can put your arms hands in less threatening positions because plenty of room. I've had a lot of hammies lately ,rescues, and different cages. I do really enjoy your hammie videos. Keep it up.

    If you don’t want to deal with wire mess you can buy a cookie cooling rack for about $4. You cut the hole just a little smaller than the rack. Than flatten the legs down with a hammer. I than drilled holes for zip cording the rack to the lid. I find it better than wire because the bars can take a chewing. I added some extra holes with a drill that can I can threaded wood chews or salt rocks from.

    I guess a drill would take a while!! I spent over an hour using a boxcutter to make my bin lid!! XD
    (I don’t use a bin as a permanent cage, just for travel, so it is just around 450 sq inches, I use a 950 sq inch tank as his cage, also he is a hybrid dwarf)
    Also, I wouldn’t use the vitamin drops. They can seem to work (I used them for a short while with my passed Syrian), but they can turn a hamster off of water, and hamsters should get all of the vitamins that they need from their food. Extra vitamins can be harmful.

    So I found this cage on the internet and it's only 605sq inches (that's probably counting the outside) which is perfect for a dwarf but yours is clearly a Syrian. I know it sounds a lot but if he starts to show signs of needing more space you need to upgrade again. Syrians have been known to sometimes not be able to live in a 640something sq inch IKEA Detolf so I'd keep an eye on him and you may need to upgrade again. Goodluck

    I really like that you did upgrade his cage. But it is still much too small... I live in Switzerland so I can only give you everything in metres or centimetres. But the absolute minimum for the enclosure is 100x50cm so half a square metre. It is only species-appropriate from one square metre, anything less is actually still too small. Why? Because hamsters run several kilometres per night in nature. They also live in burrows, so the bedding should be at least 30 cm high. Unfortunately, animal welfare laws in other countries are clearly too low, even in Switzerland still. But I ask you, in love for your hamsters, to give them a proper, large enclosure. Plastic objects other than the wheel are also unsuitable.
    None of this is meant in a bad way, and none of it is hate. I just want the hamsters to be well, because I know that in other countries the information is less good. But there are two very good TH-camrs: ErinsAnimals and Victoria Raechel
    Please take my comment serious, thank you :)

      @@steviehixon9136 You do not offend me, no problem. I just think that she should show better care for the hamsters because others will do the same as she does just because she shows it on Yt. Thats why I think she should provide better cages and toys etc. But other than that I agree with you.

    I thought the bin I got for my dwarf hamster was huge until I put everything in and now I feel like he needs a bigger one.

    Another point for other hamster fans. In my opinion you just cant make a cage large enough for a female Syrian. They are unique in there activity level. Mine is in 200 quart bin and I feel badly. But Heidu is a behemoth.

    I'd be a little careful with those vitamin drops! I've seen horror stories about things like those from pet shops for hamsters, but I think it would be completely fine if it was recommended by your vet! I just want the best for little Rhino, and I'm glad his hair is growing back!

    Idk why people think it's a good idea to stick anything in a plastic bin to live in. Buy a real spacious cage or don't get a pet.
