Imagine living in a time where we can enjoy such utter breathtaking performances in the comfort of our own livingrooms. This piece and performance is a blessing on many levels. Thank you!
Yes. So true. And can you imagine being in the heavenly realm when God the Father signals to God the Son that it’s the time to step out of eternity and into the dimension of time? For a moment we are given a glimpse of eternity in this song. 😊
The harmonies in this arrangement are like a deep, ancient cry from the heart of the earth... Come, Emmanuel! A truly original yet faithful arrangement--unexpected, but not unfamiliar to the soul.
In my humble opinion this is a masterpiece. Truly inspired. In a league of it's own. It's how I imagine myself singing it to the King of Kings and the Lord of all Lords. Tremendous thanks to all involved 👏👏👏👏✝️
The slow tempo at the beginning sets the expansive stage for the cosmic and primordial scene of the Eternal One who is about to step into time. Wonderful arrangement of a timeless carol.
Till 1:30 I felt crying from hearts of all christians for 2nd Saviours' coming for this wicked world. 1:30 Rejoyce! And I have goose bumps, every time!
The key change at 1:31 on "rejoice!" got me so hard! Whenever O Come O Come Emmanuel is sung at church, we always look forward to that first note of the refrain, that note of joy and hope and the promise of triumph. This arrangement did the unexpected and brought a whole new layer of meaning to that one simple word.
@@karelcuchal5852 To me this arrangement comes across as tedious. "Rejoice" in my opinion shouldn't put the lister to sleep. That said, the arrangement is performed masterfully.
This is how the Elves of Middle Earth would sing this song. Epic with sadness and longing and pulls on something deep in your soul. So good. “There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach. His song in the Tower had been defiance rather than hope; for then he was thinking of himself. Now, for a moment, his own fate, and even his master's, ceased to trouble him. He crawled back into the brambles and laid himself by Frodo's side, and putting away all fear he cast himself into a deep untroubled sleep.” ― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Return of the King
What joy this performance must have brought to the ears of Taylor Scott Davis who penned this arrangement. I did not see some of the harmonic structure coming. How refreshing with sensitive yet powerful orchestration, delivered by musicians and vocalists at the top of their game. And Barnaby, you never cease to amaze me. Thank you to each and every person associated with this performance.
A stunning and contemporary twist to a traditional hymn...This is just one of the multitudes of beautiful offerings from the VOCES8 musical family. I can always expect excellence in every way. Thank you, VOCES8.
I have a fondness for O Come O Come Emanuel. I arranged this chant melody for alto flute, clarinet in A and bassoon and my trio performed it in several churches. Taylor Scott Davis wrote a sensitive and nuanced arrangement for orchestra and choir. He struck a balance, honoring the spirit of the melody and still taking advantage of all the singers, orchestra, and harp. And what a performance!
Oh my goodness me! O Come, o Come, Emmanuel is my favourite hymn of the Anglican church, and in this arrangement it's just stunning! Thank you so much Voces8! ❤️🙏
Stunning, brilliant, moving..to tears, every time I listen to it. Thanks, Taylor Scott Davis, and all the singers and musicians. This is what Christmas is REALLY all about...
MAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGNIFICENT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take a deep breath before it starts - you'll not breathe till the last note fades ! BRAVO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I heard this last year and this is the only arrangement of this piece that hook me up. The arrangement and dynamic is just magnificent and perfection.❤
This arrangement is literally Epic! Like LOTR epic! An incredible vision by Taylor Scott Davis! I was stunned during the concert, and replayed it several times! Can't say enough about it. AWEsome.
Voces8 est un ensemble extraordinaire. Merci pour cette profondeur. Les interprétations de cet Ensemble sont une rencontre du ciel et de la terre : de la vie très concrète et de la vie qui échappe à toute appréhension immédiate. Immense merci.
_Utterly BREATHTAKING!_ I have always relished how mysterious this piece can be, and you folks have really brought the mystery to life. Excellent rendition! Lots of surprises. Kept me at the edge of my seat.
Sublime and Beautiful in so many ways!!! Such a touching arrangement and performance - Voces8 never disappoints (and clearly now Apollo5 too)! Thank you all so much. Blessings upon you and everyone!
right from the start, the baseline notes resonating deep in your soul, especially from the double bass, and that change at 0:36! followed by more...the journey has just started!
STUNNING. Love the voicing and orchestration here. And the new harmonization of the song makes it sound so full of wonder and mystery but also so warm. Love it.
Wow! Just been reviewing some classic versions of this antiphon, but this modern reworking is just exceptionally beautiful, hats off to Taylor Scott Davis for bringing us such an imaginative and emotional reworking
I saw this and tbh I just was expecting a rendition of this hymn up to the usual Voces8 standard, which is a great standard even begin with. This is a cut above even that!
My goodness, this is my favourite hymn in its 'standard' form! However, this version, is utterly spine tingly beautiful perfection, well done indeedy👏👏👏👏l!!!!
A beautiful arrangement by Taylor Scott Davis. Full of awe, majesty, and beauty. I score worthy of the meaning in its title. "God is with us" I'm not sure why Sean Blair thinks its an epic sadness?
Ancient vibes … monumental … makes you feel homesick without knowing the home

Well said. It is rare to hear such calling, "O Come!", and proclaiming, "God with us", as simply, powerfully, and beautifully as this.
Amen and amen!
Douglas, your comments are so true. The Earth still travails as God’s people wait to be delivered!

I hope to join you in singing it to the King of Kings!!!
I imagine singing like this for our Jesus in heaven!! I have chills. I can’t wait.
We do that now with every breath taken and note sung.

Absolutely. It has that "middle earth/elvish" majesty and is full of the hope of Christmas. Great quote.

Really, I can't even imagine a more unseemly comment than that. For Heaven's sake, what have got elves got to do with a religious festivity?

This arrangement and performance expresses the deep emotional landscape this chant (hymn) has always evoked in me. I am soulfully grateful.

My only wish is that it was longer than it was. Such dramatic music for this season of Advent. Thank you for sharing it. Really beautiful.
Right. There are several more verses! 😊

Actually it's a translated old catholic latin hymn.
Actually it’s from the 8th or 9th century so it’s a hymn of the undivided church. (The split between East and West occurred in 1054.)
@@Apriluser I heard it many times in Anglican churches in England. Did the Catholic Churches in England also keep that tradition?
It’s a very dark, dramatic, and theatrical interpretation of the beloved hymn and I love it; I especially love the ending major chord. Well done!
