My general motto is "enjoying it for what it is." Thats about it, if im having fun, who give a shit about other things right? I work from morning to 6pm and all i care about when i got home is burning away my stress by playing videogames. Valhalla just so happened to be a perfect fit for me, i can just turn my brain off and chip away that bloated mess for as long as i want to, i play that game since August of last year and still haven't complete all the DLCs yet, still going at it while playing Ghost of Tsushima and Elden Ring side by side. All three are massive game but hey, im having fun so who give a damn.
So refreshing to see there's someone else in the world besides me who gets tired of focusing on the negative. I don't know yet if I'll be getting the game day one, but I suppose as just another AC youtuber I will inevitably end up getting the game and "making the most" of it. I think there will be enjoyable aspects for sure, at any rate.

I just bought Mirage n just finished the main campaign. I think I would've hated it without your parkour tips n tutorial. Now it's one of my top 2 fav parkour in AC games. N you're so spot on with just enjoying things. I don't think I'll be playing AC Shadows at launch but I can't wait to see your stream n the eventual parkour tutorial for it 🎉🔥🔥
I think it's REALLY important to remember that Unity was trying out some new stuff stylistically with parkour, that we now all REALLY wish they'd go back to. But they didn't, BECAUSE OF US. WE dragged them through the mud, and so they thought, "Well, I guess they just hate all of this." I've been a lifelong AC fan. I'm tired of Ubi ruining it, but also the fans, just give it a few months of the game being out (with some light critique from us for fixes, if needed, like Ubi Bordeaux did with Mirage) before we tear it apart. Lest we run into another Unity situation. It's not like Unity was fully historically accurate, with an assassin both breaking out of the Bastille AND meeting Napoleon.
Yep, that's my thoughts exactly. I don't dislike that they do something else with every game and I don't really dislike the things they do with any of the games, but people keep acting like everyone's gonna be happy if they just go back to what the older games did. Not only did they hate those games to hell and back back then, they also hate the idea of revisiting them in remakes and they hate when Ubi does something new and they also hate when Ubi does something that's been around for ages. Idk, if someone hates something, they can go ahead and hate it, I just can't stand anymore the pretentious "This game sucks because it's not the same game that we hated 10 years ago because it was the same as the ones that had come before it."
@Fleepwn I personally loathe the RPG's and do speak up when they go in that direction, because that's not what the series is supposed to be, but Mirage was a good example of them GENUINELY doing a good job of returning to form (my favorite is STILL AC 1) and people just took a giant shit on it, because it's what is cool to do as an AC fan. We just can't win, anymore. I personally will get Shadows on release (I don't pre-order, I'm too poor).
@@shamanllama Yep, pretty much. After all the Shadows discourse (whether it's gameplay-related or not), I have given up on "winning" as you called it, and have just accepted having fun while losing. I'm a huge fan of the franchise and I've always wanted to be part of the community, but when there is no community to be a part of, I'll just take my games and enjoy them in peace lmao. frothing at the mouth thinking of you enjoying Shadows (i would be buying it if i werent poor) when you talk about showing mirage parkour in a good light, it kinda hit for me. you've done what i wanted to do but way better than i ever could've done. i wanted so badly for people to see that the system could work if the level design allowed for it (and some concessions were made to allow for somewhat functional ejects) but i couldn't get my hands on a copy of mirage to do so. im honestly glad i couldn't because you've done what i would've tried to do but way better than i could've ever done it (i only realized after posting this comment that i said the same thing twice)
@lethalevasion aw man thank you so much. It's a weird place to be in as a classic parkour enjoyer who also enjoys Mirage. With the fan base so divided and most classic fans looking down on people who don't understand why they're superior, it's tricky and there's a lot of pressure to choose a side and hold certain opinions. I try my best to be objective and think for myself, and I think there's a lot to love about mirage. I greatly appreciate it for returning the classic format and doing their absolute best to make the parkour as good as possible with limited resources. I'd buy em both for you if I wasn't scraping by as well :/ life is hard.

Not trying to be negative, but it is something that catches a lot of people, including CEOs. This can also increase the endowment effect (where people overvalue things they currently own despite their real value). It is better and more rational (meaning utility-maximizing) to just cut losses, even when a lot has been invested into it. Unfortunately, games can have higher transaction costs, like search costs, in the way that it takes time and more thinking to determine if you will enjoy something before purchasing it, and if the cost justifies said level of enjoyment. This added effort to determine if something is worth it can chip away at people's decision-making until they become impatient and ‘just buy the damn thing’. Pre-orders, marketing, and time-limited discounts are ways that companies try to bypass consumer apprehension and play off things like these concepts. I believe if AC shadows protagonist is more "authentic" looking unknown samurai from some random Japanese family, I think it will work much better. We already had one of the best black Assassin in the game like Adewale. I believe all of the Assassin's Creed protagonists are native to the settings of the game, so keep it that way Ubisoft
Also, with the architecture, I'll say - to be fair, I'm not sure what period Shadows is set in within Japan, but Ghost of Tsushima, as accurate as it was in many aspects, also hard architecture that wasn't necessarily breathtaking to parkour on. I'll have to rewatch the Shadows gameplay trailer. But I think that's just how the architecture was in Japan at the time, so we wouldn't get anything much more elaborate than what we see. The buildibgs in GOT tended to be small, packed tightly together, not much dimension to them, unless you were in a palace or fort.
I'm in the same boat. I have my issues with Shadows but I'm a sucker for Assassin's Creed. I've loved this franchise since I first played AC1 in 2008. I usually get these games day 1. I think there's still a lot to like about Shadows even if the parkour is lacking. We will see
even if the movement is nowhere near AC 2 or even mirage level and is just front flipping between castle rootops, I'm still going to prone everywhere with naoe wearing no pants for 9999 hours. I pre-ordered the 120 dollar version.
Well even if the game’s story and general gameplay is underwhelming/bad at least Naoe’s stealth gameplay looks pretty good and her tools are great. Playing as Basim was very fun in Mirage and Naoe seems to have a lot in common with his playstyle so I’ll try my best to enjoy Shadows
People hate on ubisoft games at launch for mostly bug issues or graphical issues. I've been playing Outlaws and although it does have some bugs like any game does on release its a fun game and I don't understand the hate for it. Its literally a heist story about gathering up a crew for a big job. Same as GTAV but it has factions and a lot more game mechanics. I think people just want to hate on Ubisoft just to hate on them. People have asked for a return to Assassins creed but when Ubisoft brings back old mechanics like social stealth or parkour people hate on them even though the newer mechanics are better than the older ones. Its all nostalgia about the old games but going back and playing the old AC games the worlds are just as empty. People don't know what they want and don't know how to receive a great game until years later. Unity is widely known as one of the best AC games but everyone hated it at launch. With Shadows we get probably what will be the best fighting mechanics of all the AC games paired with weather systems we have never gotten, stealth to a level we have never seen in AC and even parkour that will probably match or get close to Unity. Plus its in Japan and we have wanted that as a community for so long. Everything about shadows points to it as being the best AC game we have gotten.

Problem here isn't that shadows can't be enjoyed. It's that Money talks. Low sales = dead series. They already killed watch dogs and god forbid i really hope they don't kill AC. Ubisoft lately just hasn't hit the mark and they have been known for being ''mid''. I love AC, but i understand a game is a game. But for for these companies?... Money talks... And with the way Star wars outlaws sold... AC is on thin ice.
I felt absolutely same after I played Origins for the first time. I was away from the franchise for years and when I came back I saw that it's so different now. And I heard criticism about stuff, magic and parkour. Well, I noticed it myself actually. And nevertheless I fucking enjoyed Bayek and Ancient Egypt. And this RPG saga in general where we see the world of AC from the distance, not just from perspective of templars or assassin's, but as a stranger. And I actually liked it, I think it made the AC universe a little bit deeper to see this world from the different side, may it be degenerative greek or dumbass viking. And duuh classic AC better, duuh now it's generally worse, but it's interesting and enjoyable too. So let's stay old ac fans, not old ac haters. Great video, keep up the good work, Ropotopolous.

Even though I know AC Shadows won't be a good game, I'll definitely buy it and play it too. It's simple, I've been waiting for Assassin's creed in Japan since AC2. Despite the general degradation of the series (I'm especially saddened that Ubisoft seems to have fired all the animators. Why so bad, Ubi!?) I've found something to like in every game (Except Odyssey. Everything about it is bad), and I think I'll find something to like in this one.
I need the game to have good fighting and facial movement animations. I can't take video games seriously if they don't have that. This is what happened to me with the last Assassin's Creed, they look pretty bad in those aspects, I don't even remember the story of Valhalla or Odyssey for that reason.

I am very hyped for ac shadows. Honestly i think they nailed it with this game. It even looks better than all the Fan concepts for a ac japan. Surely it might not be perfekt but even the old ac‘s aren’t. Parkour looks great, the stealth looks better and have more mechanics than in every other ac game and the world building is just perfect from what i see.
It will suck because almost all modern games suck. They're not focused on quality story telling or fun gameplay. They're just focused on looking good enough to wow people so they will buy them so that the companies and investors can make money.

Honestly, I pre ordered as well and I don't care about anyone has to say. Yeah, it's no longer the same thing from the old days. Yeah, modern day is a mess since Desmond. Yeah, RPG changed too much of the franchise. Still, I love them all. Well, maybe not Unity and Syndicate. But I found the RPG trilogy to be a incredibly fun.
The combat we've seen looks so incredibly choppy and bland. Paired animation, janky finishers, and doesn't appear to be very fluid. After we've played Ghost of Tsushima, it looks like it's going to be terribly underwhelming.

It's just not that serious, and frankly some of the castles and stealth options in Valhalla have significantly more complex level design than most of the entire series. Every single one of the latest mainline assassins creed games have outsold the previous ones. AC2 isnt even in their top 5 selling ac titles.

when you talk about showing mirage parkour in a good light, it kinda hit for me. you've done what i wanted to do but way better than i ever could've done. i wanted so badly for people to see that the system could work if the level design allowed for it (and some concessions were made to allow for somewhat functional ejects) but i couldn't get my hands on a copy of mirage to do so. im honestly glad i couldn't because you've done what i would've tried to do but way better than i could've ever done it

It's a weird place to be in as a classic parkour enjoyer who also enjoys Mirage. With the fan base so divided and most classic fans looking down on people who don't understand why they're superior, it's tricky and there's a lot of pressure to choose a side and hold certain opinions. I try my best to be objective and think for myself, and I think there's a lot to love about mirage. I greatly appreciate it for returning the classic format and doing their absolute best to make the parkour as good as possible with limited resources.

Pre-orders, marketing, and time-limited discounts are ways that companies try to bypass consumer apprehension and play off things like these concepts. I believe if AC shadows protagonist is more "authentic" looking unknown samurai from some random Japanese family, I think it will work much better. We already had one of the best black Assassin in the game like Adewale. I believe all of the Assassin's Creed protagonists are native to the settings of the game, so keep it that way Ubisoft
Also, with the architecture, I'll say - to be fair, I'm not sure what period Shadows is set in within Japan, but Ghost of Tsushima, as accurate as it was in many aspects, also hard architecture that wasn't necessarily breathtaking to parkour on. I'll have to rewatch the Shadows gameplay trailer. But I think that's just how the architecture was in Japan at the time, so we wouldn't get anything much more elaborate than what we see.
The buildibgs in GOT tended to be small, packed tightly together, not much dimension to them, unless you were in a palace or fort.
They’re just using historical accuracy as an excuse to not deal with world design again.
I liked Ghosts of Tsushima but it's not historically accurate.

I'm in the same boat. I have my issues with Shadows but I'm a sucker for Assassin's Creed. I've loved this franchise since I first played AC1 in 2008. I usually get these games day 1. I think there's still a lot to like about Shadows even if the parkour is lacking. We will see

Well even if the game’s story and general gameplay is underwhelming/bad at least Naoe’s stealth gameplay looks pretty good and her tools are great. Playing as Basim was very fun in Mirage and Naoe seems to have a lot in common with his playstyle so I’ll try my best to enjoy Shadows

People hate on ubisoft games at launch for mostly bug issues or graphical issues. I've been playing Outlaws and although it does have some bugs like any game does on release its a fun game and I don't understand the hate for it. Its literally a heist story about gathering up a crew for a big job. Same as GTAV but it has factions and a lot more game mechanics. I think people just want to hate on Ubisoft just to hate on them. People have asked for a return to Assassins creed but when Ubisoft brings back old mechanics like social stealth or parkour people hate on them even though the newer mechanics are better than the older ones. Its all nostalgia about the old games but going back and playing the old AC games the worlds are just as empty. People don't know what they want and don't know how to receive a great game until years later. Unity is widely known as one of the best AC games but everyone hated it at launch. With Shadows we get probably what will be the best fighting mechanics of all the AC games paired with weather systems we have never gotten, stealth to a level we have never seen in AC and even parkour that will probably match or get close to Unity. Plus its in Japan and we have wanted that as a community for so long. Everything about shadows points to it as being the best AC game we have gotten.

Problem here isn't that shadows can't be enjoyed. It's that Money talks. Low sales = dead series. They already killed watch dogs and god forbid i really hope they don't kill AC. Ubisoft lately just hasn't hit the mark and they have been known for being ''mid''. I love AC, but i understand a game is a game. But for for these companies?... Money talks... And with the way Star wars outlaws sold... AC is on thin ice.

I felt absolutely same after I played Origins for the first time. I was away from the franchise for years and when I came back I saw that it's so different now. And I heard criticism about stuff, magic and parkour. Well, I noticed it myself actually. And nevertheless I fucking enjoyed Bayek and Ancient Egypt. And this RPG saga in general where we see the world of AC from the distance, not just from perspective of templars or assassin's, but as a stranger. And I actually liked it, I think it made the AC universe a little bit deeper to see this world from the different side, may it be degenerative greek or dumbass viking. And duuh classic AC better, duuh now it's generally worse, but it's interesting and enjoyable too. So let's stay old ac fans, not old ac haters. Great video, keep up the good work, Ropotopolous.

Even though I know AC Shadows won't be a good game, I'll definitely buy it and play it too. It's simple, I've been waiting for Assassin's creed in Japan since AC2. Despite the general degradation of the series (I'm especially saddened that Ubisoft seems to have fired all the animators. Why so bad, Ubi!?) I've found something to like in every game (Except Odyssey. Everything about it is bad), and I think I'll find something to like in this one.
The only think I like about odyssey is the setting. Always had a fascination with Greece but somehow I don't remember almost any of the scenery.
I need the game to have good fighting and facial movement animations. I can't take video games seriously if they don't have that. This is what happened to me with the last Assassin's Creed, they look pretty bad in those aspects, I don't even remember the story of Valhalla or Odyssey for that reason.

I am very hyped for ac shadows. Honestly i think they nailed it with this game. It even looks better than all the Fan concepts for a ac japan. Surely it might not be perfekt but even the old ac‘s aren’t. Parkour looks great, the stealth looks better and have more mechanics than in every other ac game and the world building is just perfect from what i see.
It will suck because almost all modern games suck. They're not focused on quality story telling or fun gameplay. They're just focused on looking good enough to wow people so they will buy them so that the companies and investors can make money.
It's a crappy job but someone has to do it.

The combat we've seen looks so incredibly choppy and bland. Paired animation, janky finishers, and doesn't appear to be very fluid. After we've played Ghost of Tsushima, it looks like it's going to be terribly underwhelming.

I'm just not looking forward to the smug negativity from people who haven't played the game and the endless "Shadows is TRASH" thumbnail nonsense. Expecting plenty of videos of Unity parkour with SHADOWS WISHES IT COULD BE LIKE THIS, SHADOWS COULD NEVER, et cetera. I don't care. Not every video game is going to be what you want it to be even though it would be nice and maybe even makes plenty of sense if it was. It's just not that serious, and frankly some of the castles and stealth options in Valhalla have significantly more complex level design than most of the entire series. Even though people will complain "oh remember when assassin's creed was about being a REAL ASSASSIN" as if Altair didn't stand in front of an army and kill like 50 guys in the very first game of the series.
