      If you have your albums put in Discogs, it is really easy to see what the records are selling for (on Discogs.) The values surprised me too. Take care.

    Great video. Can't wait for the next one. I also was expecting your Yesterday and Today album to be number one in your countdown. Pleasantly surprised to see Taylor Swift as your number 1, especially as I have it in my collection too (mine is unnumbered RSD2018 edition). Even though yours is open it will still be very valuable as you have a very low number on it. I like MJ too. Saw him in concert in UK back in 1988. He was awesome live! Cheers, Col.

    Great collection there Melinda. Love the Marvin Gaye box set it looks just superb. I have a number of valuable vinyl issues. I remember buying Paul McCartney Liverpool Oratorio vinyl box set which goes for 200 UK pounds now. I think I brought it for £20!!. I have the Sound and Vision 6 clear vinyl box set by David Bowie. It really is a thing of beauty. I have never played it as its still sealed. I payed less than £25 back in the 90s....its now worth £250!!! or about $300. Barry Manilow? when I was young I would not have entertained the thought of listening to his stuff.....but now whisper it......I do like some of his songs now. Must be getting old!!! Great video Melinda. Keep safe.

    Hi Melinda. Definitely a cool assortment of records. The Twilight record was cool it definitely brings me back to the Twilight craze in elementary and middle school. Also, currently over here salivating at the T Swift stuff me and my sister jammed out to that back in the day. I remember my sister used to have a huge fearless poster on her bedroom wall. I really enjoyed this. Keep it up. My most valuable LP is an album by Mike Selesia called Flavor. It was given to me by Mike himself back in the mid 70's. We both were musicians in the Monterey Bay area of California. Some of my musician friends played on this album. From what I understand it was a self-released album, not on any label, and only 100 copies were pressed. I was shocked to see what it is going for on Discogs. I know you are very busy, but if you get some time, look it up on Discogs to see the value. I look forward to your next video. Be safe.

    • @MelindaMurphy
      @MelindaMurphy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow! I looked it up. The price starts at over $700. With only 100 copies pressed, I can understand the price. It is incredibly rare. Who knows how many have survived for this long. That is an incredible story. Wow!!!

One of the first albums that i graded was the zombies Odyssey and Oracle. Wow was i surprised at the average price @ $94.00 and I consider my copy to be VG + + last sold in December for $120 and the highest which is probably mint went for $324. How cool is that? Its kinda Neat knowing that our personal record collection has some value to them..... 100s more to grade😏😉👍

    Another great video, Melinda. My top 3 single discs are, 3. Bob Dylan Blood on the Tracks MOFI 1 Step, (median price $165), 2. Syd Barrett Madcap Laughs Original UK pressing, ($190) and 1. Jethro Tull, Aqualung, UHQR edition, (212.50). Most expensive box set is The Beatles Mono set that I was fortunate to get at retail on release. I also own both of the Paramount Records box sets from Third Man that have actually decreased in price, but they are my favorite box sets.

    Hi Melinda- loving the jukebox.Wow- i might be tempted to keep Marvin sealed. I like Discogs but am not always convinced at their valuations. Don't have anything too valuable but have some signed albums which were in charity shops ( hard to define though). You are lucky to be able to go shopping for records etc at present. Am looking forward to the time when we can. Stay safe and keep smiling.( Staggered that aTaylor Swift is so pricey).

    Lovin’ the mini-Beatles in the background ;) Fab selections! “It’s been four years, my brain hurts a lot. Four years, that’s all I got”. Oh! And I was spinning some Marvin G. the other day after the political storm that’s been going on. Calmed the nerves, if you know what I mean, beautiful sentiment throughout the album. Really enjoyed this video. I catalog everything on Discogs, and I find it interesting to check in on the value every now again. Like you, though, I am buying records first and foremost to listen to. If they happen to be valuable, then that is a bonus! Here are my Top 10 as of today:
    1. The Beatles - White Album (original 1968 mono pressing with fairly low number)
    2. Nina Simone - I Put a Spell on You (1965 original stereo press, which seems to be quite rare)
    3. De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising (Vinyl Me Please pressing from 2019 that is now out of print)
    4. The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour (1971 German pressing that is highly sought after due to its sound quality)
    5. The Budos Band - Long in the Tooth (2020 Vinyl Me Please pressing which I think has only sold once on Discogs for an inflated price)
    6. The Flaming Lips - American Head (2020 release which came with a signed Wayne Coyne art print)
    7. Chris Clark - Soul Sounds (Rare 1967 UK Motown release)
    8. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Head On/Pill (Limited edition 12" coloured vinyl from 2020)
    9. The Kinks - Face to Face (Rare UK mono original press)
    10. Paul McCartney - McCartney III (Red vinyl)
    I find it really interesting how my list is a mix of releases from last year and releases from 50+ years ago!

    • @MelindaMurphy

    Awesome albums Melinda! I am super jealous of that Michael Jackson HIStory box. I'd love that. I have two copies of The Beatles Yesterdays and Today as well, but neither are butchers. Nice poster on the wall in back of you! I was nearly 16 years old when I had a 20th row orchestra seat for the matinee show (he did a matinee and evening show that day) at Madison Square Garden in Aug. 1972. On the bill with John were Roberta Flack, Stevie Wonder and Sha-Na- Na. I think an orchestra seat was $10. Interestingly, the month before, I saw the Rolling Stones at MSG, and Stevie Wonder opened for them, too. His lead guitarist for both shows was a 17 year old Ray Parker, Jr. who went on play with the band Raydio and eventually had solo hits with "The Other Woman" and "Ghostbusters". Now's how this for a 1972 summer of shows at Madison Square Garden? John Lennon in August. The Rolling Stones in July. Elvis Presley for his first NYC concert appearance in June and a Dion & The Belmonts Reunion at the smaller Felt Forum in May. I didn't get a chance to see Elvis or Dion, though.

    Great that you actually open & enjoy them.
    Although I am envious of your Copy of Marvin Gate " What's going on"
    Brilliant Lp from 1972-3 era.
    Cannot believe that Taylor " sell out " swift, country > pop are of a higher value according to your listing's than the Marvin gaye Lp??
    That's criminal.
    As for the V.H LP Diff kind of truth.
    I do not own the vinyl but I picked up the LTD EDT DBL disc cd and dvd pack, cheap.
    Cheers

    Nice tease on Barry. My favorite anyway from his is 'Copacabana' and have still 45 single. I like it as the issue they were cool enough for a short version and a long version. Nice thinking Arista did for that back when. Also my dad loved the song and had it. Most prized pricey area falls in Beatles and Stones collections. Hey Melinda! Some expensive records you got there. Really great you were able to pick up A Different Kind Of Truth even though it was expensive. I would imagine VH vinyl prices will be growing especially for the OG and Master Recordings.
    I still get sad thinking of all the great artists we have lost the past couple years. Tom Petty and Eddie Van Halen were big ones for me.
    I am not too surprised about the Kiss album selling for such a high price. Die hard Kiss fans are crazy lol
    I am surprised with the Swift records being so expensive but I guess she is a big deal these days. I would think for an artist being still in her prime and still alive that her records would be at an average cost. Would be interesting to see what they are worth 10 or 20 years from now.

      I still miss Petty but the loss of Eddie really hurts. I'm so sad that he isn't here to see his son get married or see his son with his own band.
      I'm shocked about the Swift records and I'm not that attached to them. I may sell them at some point. I think as her career cools down so will the price of these records. I think the jukebox was made in '69 but is considered a 1970 model. Take care.

    Hi Melinda, this is a great idea for a video. I'm sure that all of us ask ourselves what our most valuable albums are now worth. If you paid a pretty penny for some of them, then you already know which ones should bring a higher price. I would have never thought those Taylor Swift albums would be worth that much, but she is very popular, and I shouldn't be too surprised. There are many vinyl albums that I have that are worth something, too many to go into here. Some are cherished because they are original issues I bought in record stores from places like Tower Records back when they were first released. I really love my NM first issue Japanese pressing of Pink Floyd The Wall with its OBI; it sounds fabulous and is the best for detailed sounds on that album. 👍👍👍👍👍 Quite frankly, all of my many pressings of PF The Wall are special to me. Another album from the classic era that is an absolute favorite is my NM Vertigo first UK pressing of Black Sabbath's Paranoid album; the sound just floors me every time I hear it, just killer! 🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸 Now for something quite new and very, very special to me from Larkin Poe. I have a vinyl copy of their Grammy nominated album Venom & Faith that was personally autographed by Rebecca & Megan Lovell in my presence when I met them after their wonderful live show at the Monterey Jazz Festival in the Fall of 2019. I asked them to sign with two different colored pens I brought with me for each of them, and they were kind enough to indulge me. There is a special reason why I asked them to sign in the different colors, and very few people know why. There's actually a cool story to go with this, but it's too long to go into here. I got to talk to Rebecca & Megan for a while, and I got a photo standing with them while I was holding the signed album. I would say this autographed Larkin Poe Venom & Faith vinyl album is my most cherished album, because it brings back such wonderful memories of meeting them and seeing them perform a killer live set. It doesn't get any better than this for a vinyl records fan! 💖💖💖💖💖

    • @MelindaMurphy
      @MelindaMurphy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What a cool story. I love autographed album covers. Unfortunately, I have very few of them. It's wonderful that you got to see them perform and meet them.
      I'm sure you probably have the most incredible Pink Floyd collection. 😮
      There are plenty of black vinyl Taylor Swift albums out there. Her albums aren't rare so I am so surprised that those albums are so expensive. The Van Halen and Beatles albums are the most cherished for me. Take care.

    • @audiophileman7047
      @audiophileman7047 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MelindaMurphy Yes, the Larkin Poe show and signing was an unforgettable experience! 😍 My PF collection isn't huge by PF collector standards, but I have some very nice stuff as you've already heard. Since PF The Wall is my favorite rock album of all time, I like to focus on it the most. The only thing I'm really missing is the Columbia Half Speed Master. I've heard mixed things about that album. Some say the pressing is fabulous and others say its terrible. What seems to be pretty unanimous is that the early UK and Japanese pressings are the best. The Doug Sax TML (in the Matrix number) pressings are very nice, full and bright. I haven't really explored Taylor Swift; I'll have to check her out just to see what the fuss is all about. Van Halen and The Beatles, now those are two bands to really enjoy and love. If I had to pick between the two, it would be Van Halen, just for Eddie's incredible musicianship and his innovations. Van Halen is not my favorite rock band of all time, but they're in the upper region of my top ten favorite rock bands. 👍👍👍👍👍 Take care and be safe, vinyl sister. 👍💖🎸😎

    As always another awesome video, you have some really valuable vinyl. A friend of mine about 10 years ago is a dumpster diver, and he found about 9 record albums and one of them was a butcher cover I told him to put it on eBay and he got little over a thousand for it. When you were getting to number one I was thinking for sure it's going to be Led Zeppelin lV promo copy, when I saw Taylor Swift I was shocked. , not that she's not worth it but I thought Led ZeppelinlV promo copy would go for a lot of cash, great to see your collection of most valuable finds as far as price goes. Thank you again for sharing such a wonderful video. Isn't it funny how a record that is just a few years old can be worth so much. All those classic records and Taylor wins out. What a strange world record collecting can be. My most valuable is a Jack White 45. A 45!?!?! Great video, Melinda. Thanks for sharing.

      A modern 45 is the most valuable? Seems unreal doesn't it. Anything associated with Jack white is money. $$$ Have a great weekend.

      @@MelindaMurphy Jack is really interesting for record people. You probably know that he has been using a modified EVH guitar lately. He played it on his recent SNL appearance (it was the week Edward passed and he played a little nod to him during his performance). Crazy stuff. Take care...

    Hello Melinda; The position you made according to "Discogs is correct". This company/org. is a data base for records. We will reserve our feelings on that. How much a record is worth is determined thru consumer response. We agree with the LP picks, as they are your favorites. Many in the vinyl community should be able to find at least ten LP's (hopefully) that they feel, or actually are valuable. Nice jukebox, like the Lennon One to One poster. This video would make a good informational thread video. Take care. Tina & Pat!~

      Thank you so much! I have seen other people make similar videos. That is what made me look into my collection. I also realize that Discogs is just a tool to see what may be valuable in a collection. There are other ways to determine value that may be more accurate. I also think that sellers are often greedy on Discogs. I have bought a few hard to get records that way so I am thankful to have the option.
      I do love my jukebox. My nephew was getting rid of the Lennon poster and offered it to me. I'm am so glad he did. Have a great week.

    Nice! My most valuable item is the Prince SOTT Singles Box Set released in 2020. Do you have any Prince in your collection?

    • @MelindaMurphy
      @MelindaMurphy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have alot of Prince albums. A Graffiti Bridge original is probably the most unusual one but I have some originals as well as cool reissues. He was amazing. Thank you and take care.

    Hi Melinda-Interesting video. I'm fortunate to have the Butcher Cover, 2nd state,stereo, ex+. I got it for a $1 at a second hand store. Yeah, I guess I got a deal. Take care.

      How long ago was that? Even in the 1970's, the prices for it at Beatlefests in the dealers room were astronomical.

    You had me at Barry Manilow ;) The Taylor Swift was a bit of a surprise but not a surprise. I guess her fan base is so big, it's driven up the value of her records. I'll have to concede, I have a couple of her albums (CDs) because my daughter loves her. She loves singing the song, 'Shake It Out.' One of these days, my Twilight time is going to come but I am going to try and put it off as much as possible.

      Haha! I have watched Twilight enough for both of us. It wouldn't have been a slumber party for my daughter without Twilight. I look back on it fondly.
      I surprised several people when I showed my Barry album. You knew better. He sure did sell alot of albums though. Have a great weekend.

    Those are really cool records that you have in your collection. I play all of my records in my collection as well. I have The Eagles Hotel California in my collection. My favorite Van Halen album with Sammy Hagar is 5150 and Dreams is my favorite song on that album. My 3 favorite Genesis records are Selling England By The Pound, The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, and Seconds Out, which is a live album of Genesis. My favorite Fleetwood Mac record is Rumours. As for these albums, I these records have monetary value, but because I play my albums and not just collect them, my record collection, holds more of a sentimental value to me. So, I've never researched how much monetary value my record collection has.

      The song Dreams is one of my favorites off of 5150 too. What a classic 80's album. I loved seeing which albums are worth the most but I don't believe vinyl is a good investment. They are for listening to and enjoying. Take care.

      @@MelindaMurphy Thank you for your reply. It's really great that you have the same passion for vinyl records that I do. I bought some records at my local Walmart store and I bought 2 Beatles records that are imports-- Revolver from Germany and Sergeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band from France. I couldn't pass those up. Imports have a great sound quality. I listened to them both yesterday and again earlier today. Sweet! Take care!

    Why would anyone have a still sealed copy of Hotel California? Happy to say mine's been played thousands of times - no amount of money can compete with the sound of great music. I'm glad you play your albums 💖

      Some people like to collect records and not necessarily play the more valuable ones. I guess it's the same thinking as someone leaving a toy in it's box or keeping a stamp and not using it. I do enjoy playing my records. Thank you and take care.
