    Like yourself, I am just now getting into YES. Late to the party I know. I was actually at a record store today trying to find “Fragile “ in the used bins but they didn’t have that one so I got a different title. Now that I know of the version you showed, I’m going to go ahead and get that version of Fragile. Thanks for showing that. I also agree with you on that Don Henley album. Love these episodes Melinda!

      I found my copy of Fragile at a Barnes & Noble store brand new. It sounds wonderful and is hiss and pop free because it's a new vinyl. The older ones are hard to find in good condition. It's a great album worthy of being on your turntable. Thank you and take care.

I recently bought , “ELO “, ‘Out of the Blue’ record , it was reasonably priced and sounds excellent!! Love it!! Thank you for all your videos!! I appreciate you taking time to make all your videos!! Great video as always. Funny you posted about great sounding records. I couple of weeks ago, I played my original copy of Steve Winwood's "Back In The High LIfe". I was blown away with how well the record was recorded/pressed, given that this was played on my original turntable from high school that has a vintage Audio Technica cart, fitted with a modern elliptical stylus!! Agree 100% with Sade - I have an original pressing as well!!

    I went out and picked up a vintage Sade album today based on your recommendation. I had picked up another of her albums a few weeks ago based on another TH-camr. I’m really enjoying her. I forgot to look for Don Henley. Will try to remember next time. Love your videos. Keep it up. I always look forward to your new posts.

    YES❗ At last you are exploring Yes 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 Yes has their own style of music, their own brand, and do not really fit anything else than a YesMusic category ❤️ Melinda, i really hope you continue your Yes journey, and explore all their albums, and hopefully the solo albums too 🤞🏻🤞🏻 Yes music can be as addictive as a drug, but Yes music is a lot safer 😉😉 You may not have picked up on it, but, yes i am a Yes fan 😜 Hope you enjoy the journey, Melinda, have a great week ✌🏻✌🏻

    • @robsemail
      @robsemail 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MelindaMurphy indeed that is a trick, haha! It ain’t always easy.
      Jon Anderson of Yes has such a unique sound to his voice. If you’ve ever become familiar with even one of his songs, you’ll never miss when he’s singing. You might not even know his name, but you’ll always know that voice. Like Michael Jackson, he can hit certain high notes that most male singers cannot hit. I don’t think he could sing tenor at all, and could only slide part-way into falsetto, so he could not do like Michael and jump from tenor to falsetto and back, but the fact he used his skills and talent to hit those high notes frequently is one reason I think his music is rarely if ever covered. Almost nobody would be capable of making the songs sound right.

    Great tips Melinda! A couple of months ago friends of ours had us for dinner and they knew I collected vinyl. They let me pick out whatever I wanted from their deceased daughter's records. Most were not in the best condition and needed cleaning badly, but I scored a few decent ones and they gave them all to me. I just held my Police LP up to the light and it has the same translucent vinyl, score!!!

    You showcased some doozies, dear Melinda! One of those gems were Wes Montgomery’s record. I’m a Smooth Jazz fanatic. And he’s definitely one of the pioneers, including George Benson, of that particular genre. I have the CD. But I must grab that one. Given that there’s not a lot of Smooth Jazz on vinyl, I didn’t even begin to wonder if there were any vinyls of Wes available. Or even others like David Sanborn, Norman Brown, Lindsey Webster, Gerald Albright, etc;. Have a wonderful weekend!!! 💖

    The Beatles compilation LP’s are mostly stereo. Their preferred format and what the band and producer spent the most time getting the sound right was with the mono pressings. Only “Let it Be” and “Abbey Road” were recorded in stereo only versions. Even JL complained about these issues being in stereo, and should have been in mono. The all analog pass through and LP cutting was only done with the “The Beatles in Mono” pressings. All frequency (to an LP format) changes were made to the sound engineers notes and was reproduced with high accurately.

    It's funny thinking back to all the Beatles 45's I had and played on a Silvertone (Sears) record player hearing the snap crackle and pop of rock n roll and loving every second. Yes Fragile the first album I played on a rented record player while in the Army check out Close to the Edge also . Sunset Grill has a special place in my heart, great song and the stand fed me for twenty years I had my own sandwich and Joe the owner changed my name to Herman because when Thelma would put in my order for Rick translation meant crazy in German and that could have been everyone on the Strip.. great video Melinda

    Thanks for this video. I’ve often thought of making my own list of essential great sounding inexpensive records. The entire IRS era R.E.M. five album plus Chronic Town run is essential on vinyl-all five albums sound incredible and better any other version. The second pressings of Chronic Town and Murmur got pressed on translucent vinyl. Reckoning got translucent runs and also some are green or purple.
    Synchronicity is one of my top 5 all time best sounding records and absolutely incredible top to bottom. It manages to outdo even Ghost in the Machine sonically and pairs that with astounding RL mastering plus the KC-600 vinyl formulation.
    You’re right that the Building the Perfect Beast LP has a really great sound to it and makes even the staples come to life again.

    • @MelindaMurphy
      @MelindaMurphy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    You cannot go wrong with any Yes album. I am so psyched that you purchased this. So many state Close to the edge is their favorite but mine is Fragile. All of them in the band each did their own composition on Fragile. The gate folds of Yes surpass any others of any other band. You have Rodger Dean masterfully creating all the artwork on every Yes album. I've got goosebumps about this right now. Fragile was either the second or third 180gm I ever bought. I got mine for about $18 back in 2017. Now you got to start collecting Yes albums because they are so much more than 90210. All of their albums sound pristine. I'll stop there because I could go on and on and on because they are one of my top 5 favorite bands

    Hi Melinda. I have Paul Simon's Graceland on vinyl too and I love it. My favourite song is You Can Call Me Al. It's a fantastic song and was the first single released from the album. It reached no. 4 here in the UK singles chart. It was interesting to hear you mention about translucent vinyl. I know I have one or two albums in my collection that when you look at them they are black but when you hold them up to the light they are translucent and I probably might have more of them in my collection, I don't know. I'll have a good look at my records at some point and see if I have, I may be pleasantly surprised. I don't know if my copy of Synchronicity is translucent. I will have a look at it and see if mine is a translucent one. I wonder if some of the black vinyl is in fact a very dark purple/red colour that just looks black, then again it could just be due to some records being quite thin which means you can see light through the vinyl when held up to the light. Very interesting though, and I agree they do have fantastic sound quality. Stay safe Melinda.

    Good Lord, Melinda, I went to Amazon for Don Henley as soon as I watched your video and NADA, streaming only.........seems like recommendations make these records disappear as soon as the video is posted. I hadn't checked Discogs yet, but I haven't ordered anything off that site yet so maybe they are buried in all those thousands of versions, foreign and domestic, you have to wade thru to find good stuff. I just wish I could get lucky and find that Beatles "Hey Jude" I've lusted after since starting on vinyl again for the price that's always to good to be true. (What I hate is they will use this stock photo of the album instead of an honest ACTUAL photo of the real product they are offering and that always just smells of Stay Away to me). You looked beautiful today, and thank you for a really nice show as always.

    Morning Melinda! Great to see new video from you to drink my morning coffee with again 😊. So I have both a mint original and the MoFi pressing of that Men At Work album. While they both sound fantastic, I can tell you the MoFi is a clear improvement, mainly because the low end is more present. Giving it a fuller sound. MoFi is hit and miss, but they truly did a great job with this one. I also have original and the remasters of those Beatles albums and I agree the remasters sound far better. The only complaint I would have is that the tracks from the “Please Please Me” album have a slight echoey sound with the vocals a bit buried in the mix. The remaster of the Please Please Me album itself sounds Phenomenal! In fact, the remasters of all the individual albums sound absolutely fantastic on my system. I must say that sometimes digitally remastered can sound awesome, when done right. The current pressing of Led Zeppelin 2 is a good example. I’ve read that this pressing is the closest you’ll find to the Ludwig hot mix in sound, outside the Classic Records pressing. And I’ve compared several original pressings and None of them sound better. Although I have not been lucky enough to find a Ludwig or Classic Records copy. Someday maybe. Another great sounding and affordable record would be Blood Sweat and Tears “Self Titled”. Excellent sound! Anyway have a great day!

    If vinyl records keep going up and up then I'll go back to cds and streaming services more and more, it is ridiculous the prices for vinyl, I blame : the resellers/scalpers, greedy record stores and department stores, hoarders that NEVER play the records and buy them just to show off or just have them, that drives the prices up because there's no more copies left at decent prices and if you want it is very expensive, thank you for your videos, keep up the good work.

I have all my original 70's Yes vinyl, and have listened to CTTE for almost 50 years but Wilson's mix, while being very faithful to the original and sounding amazing, brought out things in those three incredible tracks that I had never picked up on before. *Melinda got on your "Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes" clothes. Graceland featured South African choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo and was incredible. Henley's "Beast" was phenomenal --He led the pack on any Eagles solo work. I just listened to it again (after about 30 years!) and was shook. It's that good. Lots of deep cuts. A masterpiece . (Fun fact: In the haunting Boys of Summer video; Its actually filmed from the perspective of Henley on the hood of the car looking into the camera through the windshield as the car drives backward! You realize this in the last 10 seconds as he shifts into the drivers seat from the hood and then goes...forward. Very metaphorical as it relates to "dont look back..you can never look back..." lyric. I've shown this too people who've seen it 100 times but never caught the shift at the end ). And The Police-Synchronicity ...wow. What a great time to be alive.

    Nice video Melinda ! 👍You are so sincere when presenting your videos and that really shines through. 🌞
    I do have an original Thriller and I’m pretty sure I have Murmur also.
    Here is Some Classic YES information next:😄
    I really love YES ! I was lucky to have seen them in 1974 on the “Relayer” tour….Classic YES starts with “The Yes Album “ in 1970 with Yours is No Disgrace & Perpetual Change (2 of their superb longer tracks)…Then “Fragile” which you showed. …And the Progressive Rock masterpiece “Close to the Edge” came out in ‘72. Yessongs is a superb live album from ‘73 also. Info is just in case you were looking to have all the great YES albums. !!!
    Thanks for your effort to make such enjoyable videos.. Take it easy !!!👌:). :)

    Hi Melinda....great idea for a video I have a number of great sounding records that are not "audiophile". I have a number of the records you've shown here. I can't believe that REM MurMur is an OG '83...it looks immaculate. My YES Fragile copy is not an original it's a later 70's Re-Issue but it sounds fantastic. Graceland was a perfect record and incredibly well produced....I have an OG and it sounds fantastic to me. The Police Synchronicity is definitely a great sounding record.......I'll have to check if mine is translucent purple????
    The other day I was doing some spring cleaning and I can't believe it but I found my Ghost In The Machine Tour shirt form August of 1982. I'll never forget that show. It was amazing to see that shirt again...I was 14 at the time so it doesn't really fit the way it used to. :-))
    I just checked copy of Synchronicity and it is indeed translucent purple up to the light.

    • @MelindaMurphy
      @MelindaMurphy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Synchronicity album was well done with the colored vinyl and all of the album cover variations.
      Finding a clean copy of a Yes album is half of the battle. I'm glad your reissue sounds wonderful.
      What a cool find! I wish I still had my old concert t shirts. The Ghost in the Machine tour would have been so cool. Thank you and take care.

    Great video and a lot of those albums you can still pick up for under $10. I got that Men At Work album and also Cargo for a total of $9 and both sound awesome. Just picked up Red Octopus by Jefferson Starship( has song Miracles) in NM condition for $1 and it sounds awesome. There is a lot of albums from the 70's and early 80's that are cheap with great sound.

    Hi! You are so right regarding the sound quality of the original Sade... Missed opportunity for the new box set.. digital instead of analogue .. that voice deserves only the best.. Another great original from that era would be Anita Baker - Rapture. Perfect album and sound for no money! best wishes from a sunny London, England 🌞🌞🌞

    Hey Melinda, great video. I do have a question for you. What do you think of the police half speed box set? I was thinking of picking it up but I keep reading not so good reviews. The reviews are more recent, and the problems people are having is the pressing. The vinyl has lots of skips, scratches, pops, etc. I've read some reviews from when it was first released, and people were not having any problems with the vinyl. I'm guessing maybe it was repressed and something happened.. I don't know. Anyway, please let me know what you think about the box set. Thanks in advance.

    Cheers Melinda, this was a nice idea for a video. With pay cuts and some people not being employed, the idea of being able to get great music for not that much money is very appealing! 👍👍👍 I have a lot of the albums you mentioned and many other bargain albums that sound really good. Everyone should own the red and blue Beatles Greatest Hits albums. That music is essential for every serious rock music collection. I acquired those albums in the early '80's. I bought the red album at Tower Records brand new, and it still has the shrink wrap and price tag on it. I bought a used copy of the blue album at a music store called Morning Glory Music in Isla Vista, Calif. The cover is rubbed, but the records sound good. I got it cheap. I have an early original issue of Yes' Fragile album in NM condition. It sounds great. That leads me to a bargain record I bought that sounds absolutely, stunningly fabulous. I was at Rasputin Records and flipping through the vinyl albums when I saw a copy of the Harry James King James Version album. If you don't know Harry James, he was one of the best big band swing leaders of the 1940's. He played a very lyrical, sweet sounding trumpet with a kind of romantic vocal quality. This album is a D2D recording on the Shefffield Lab label in NM condition. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award for Engineering Excellence back in the day. I was thrilled to find it and only paid $5.00 for it. It is the very best sounding record I've ever purchased at that price point, just unforgettable stunning sound. 👍💖🎸😎

      Wow! I will have to remember Harry James, The King James Version. I would love to hear that one! ❤️
      I'm one of the first people to complain about vinyl being an expensive hobby when it really doesn't have to be. I love all of these records but I also enjoy the audiophile ones as well. At this time, it is wise to spend less and spin more. Thank you so much! I always look forward to hearing from you. It must be fun to look through (and own) your record collection. 🤗❤️

      @@MelindaMurphy I tend to focus on quality not quantity. My collection isn't big, but I have some pretty nice stuff. You have a really nice collection too. You can get the Harry James King James Version album for not that much money on eBay or maybe even Discogs. You aren't likely to see it in the wild. I've only seen it one time when I bought it, but I will buy just about anything on the Sheffield Lab label, since they're D2D recordings. It's just very cool to hear this recording technology, nothing beats it. 👍👍👍

    The word cheap, or in retail, we would say inexpensive, has taken on different connotations in the last couple of years in regards to vinyl. So many people, including myself , are In search of better sounding vinyl that at times you can forget how the OGs did sound. Albums like your $4 Montgomery are out there but you just don’t know about them, happy accidents. I’m not the best at distinguishing the best pressings so I will go with your thoughts. Steve
