Actually a surprisingly impressive video from a younger collector. You blew my mind on two choices, one when you pulled out the Allman Brothers Eat a Peah and two when you finished with the Clash box set. That Michael Jackson HIStory LP is also a great find & assortment of some of his best stuff. Spot on regarding picture 45s I still have my originals from when I was a kid and continue adding to that collection primarily focused on picture sleeves. Well done and great pics!

Hi Melinda! I love the concepts of your videos. Your the only site i know of who presented this idea of records that have increased in value. It's a testament to your taste in the music you love as a collector! I had to sell my large vinyl collection twice. Once in 1969 and later in 1994. Iam trying to purchase some of my favorites again but can't afford alot of them now...one i just dream about is a mint (new) hank mobley original blue note #1550 released in 1956 that i had which i have seen auctioned off at around $3,000! Keep your valuable records melinda as they will only go up in time!! Thanks again for a fun video!

Thank you Alan. The focus of this was mainly records that I was surprised to see had went up in value. I do plan on hanging on the them. I have no plans of selling any of them. I hope you find that Hank Mobley album. It is hard to imaging any record being worth $3,000. Best of luck finding your favorites. You are always so nice to me and I really appreciate it so much.

It’s always really funny to me when I discover how much some records I own are worth now. Especially albums that I bought new on the day they were released over the last 5-10 years. It’s crazy how avid fans of certain bands will affect the market. I might make a video related to this. This was really cool, Melinda. Thanks for sharing! ✌🏻

Hi Melinda! Piper At The Gates Of Dawn is an awesome album. I still have my original copy that I got in 1967 from a friend for my sixth birthday. I recently picked up the re-issue at Barnes and Noble. It sounds amazing. Nice buy on the mono press. Can never go wrong with Zeppelin III. Eat A Peach is an awesome album. I still have my original pressing of the Kiss album, and still play it all the time. All of those records are great pick ups, awesome work Melinda. FYI, this husband also likes that Cranberries album! Have a great one!

Great vid, Melinda. I’m pretty shocked to see what some of my records are up to in value when I add something to my Discogs collection. I lost my vinyl collection about 20 yrs ago when my house got struck by lightning. No joke. I had to try to remember what I’d had in my collection. It took many years (aprox 20 or so. lol), but my collection now is much better.

Just the other day I bought a 2012 issue of Help by The Beatles for £10 (approx $13). Nice to see you collecting. My 1st record collection was stolen by a friend(?). It included the Rolling Stones Satanic mono. It's worth a lot of money now. Alice Cooper's Schools Out with the flip up desk cover is worth quite a bit. Anyway, I am proud of my vinyl collection with a good batch of Mofi and half speed masters and japanese pressings. I have been spinning these discs for decades and they are still in mint or next to mint condition. I don't have many with noise. I've lost freinds over how they've handled my records. (Get out and never come back!) One of the reasons I've kept mine in such good condition, and want to pass this info on to you, is that when I take the discs in and out of the sleeves, I gently blow air into the sleeve. Paper scratches can devalue your discs. BTW. One of my favs is Can't Buy a Thrill; Steely Dan, Japanese pressing. The sound is just supurb. My brag piece would be The Beatles Abby Road Mofi pressing. The click from Georges tongue in 'Little darlin', in Here Comes The Sun. Keyboard sounds you won't hear in a regular pressing.

Wow! I can't believe that Herbert Von Karajan score. His take on the 9 Symphonies is one of the best. I'm kicking myself for not grabbing that Pink Floyd during RSD. I had an opportunity but it went away. For me, I'm terrible with Discogs and vinyl so I don't know what I have in some regards. There is some old Jazz I know if valuable but I rarely look back to see what things are going for once have acquired a piece. I've slowly been trying to put all my CD's in there but it feels like it takes forever.

Thankfully I started using Discogs before my collection really took off. This was the first time I ever looked at my collection from highest price first and then I picked high priced albums that surprised me the most. The Beethoven album is absolutely incredible. I knew it was a good find but those kind of box sets are usually pretty inexpensive. People that know how good it is must be willing to pay for outstanding copies. I bet you do have some amazing old jazz records in your collection. I am developing quite the love for it now. I am listening to Sonny Rollins as I write this. So good. Take care.

Nice video. You got a bargain on those Beethoven symphonies. Many people - including me - consider von Karajan (pronounced “Kar-a-yan”)to be one of the greatest conductors of all time. He recorded Beethoven’s symphonies 3 times with the Berlin Philharmonic: in the 60s, 70, and 80s and there is always an animated discussion amongst von Karajan fans as to which set is the best. The 60s version would come out tops in a vote, but they’re all excellent. BTW, I have about 450 of his CDs, but more dedicated fans have many more. I hope you enjoy them.

Hello Melinda. Very nice video very showing the record that have gone up in value since you purchased it. I have a Cranberry Red Vinyl pressing of the Cranberries first album I brought when it was reissued in 2017. Sadly since the death of lead singer Delores, the Colored vinyl sold out and went out of print. Now it has gone up in value. According to the statistics, that pressing sold between $50-125 and I paid $30 for it on B&N. I have that original Japanese first pressing of Led Zeppelin III. I paid only $35 for it few years ago. Mine don’t have the OBI either. It did come with the OBI when it was first released in Japan. Sad to say, I laughed at the Air Supply record! lol Actually I don’t mind Air Supply because my Mom loves them too. I remember buying that recent MFSL pressing of Eat A Peach for only $50 on eBay over few years ago. The cost of The Beatles US 45s with picture sleeves depends on condition. Your copies of the Picture sleeves look wonderful to me. I might do a video discussing records that have went up in value since I’ve purchased them. I need time to think about it. Discogs is great when you discover that records you purchased on release have appreciated massively in value - my best score is probably The Cure Entreat Plus on white splatter vinyl that now sells for between £200 and £500. Worst result is finding that my three Brian Eno Japanese represses purchased a few years back are worthless fakes - very good replicas with Obi and all but probably not pressed in Japan and probably sourced from CD.

    Hi Melinda
It is interesting that some newer pressings are worth more than the originals. Here in the UK you can pick up an original pressing of 'Eat A Peach' for about £25-30. The Clash box set is very nice, I have never seen that. I have the original UK pressings of the first four LP's. Box sets are usually a good investment and quickly go up in value. If you have got the time to wade through 1000's of 45's you can still pick up decent stuff, even Motown. I picked up a rare Gladys Knight 45 recently. though with the lockdown not much happening at the moment. One LP that is shooting up in price is Gene Clark's 'No Other'. It was about £20, but original pressing on Asylum now will be about £50-75, and its still going to go up. Very good and informative video of a subject that always interests collectors. Gary

What I really like about this video is the sense of adventure Melinda conveys. It just goes to show that you don't have to spend $1,000 + for a vinyl record to enjoy vinyl records. You can have a lot of fun at any level you can afford. To answer Melinda's question about my best find that has increased in value, I have an auction story for you. I competed in an auction for a first issue early UK pressing of Pink Floyd's Piper at the Gates of Dawn. It was listed as VG cover and VG+ record. After some fierce bidding, I walked away with it for $349.00 plus shipping. That is the most money that I have ever spent on a record, but as a PF fanatic that album is very special to me. When I received it, I was happy to discover that the cover was more like EX or VG+ and the record was NM. To find a PF rock record from 1967 in true NM condition is positively rare. I'd say this record is worth closer to $1,000 than $349. It was a steal. Not only that, it sounds like when the first person who bought it pulled it out of the cover for the first time in 1967!

Led zeppelin 3- what is the serial number I have a first Canadian pressing(red label black letters) of that. Sound is amazing you can feel the drums. Also have 1 and two as well first pressing Canadian. I'm from jasper Alberta Canada. Our pressings are just as good as the American version. I'm talking 60s thru to the 90s. Always interesting what other people listen to. Cheers🎶

Where do you get those bags to protect your records? I just got a record player from my wife on my birthday and started collecting. I’d like to protect my collection.
I never knew that newer albums could shoot up in price like that!!!
❤️ Michael. One of the first albums I bought was Thriller.

Hi Jonathan. My favorite outer record sleeves are by a company called Vinyl Storage Solutions. They are very high quality. I prefer the 4 mil thick sleeves. Check out the website for more info. They are available on Amazon as well as the website.
I was very surprised myself. I can understand a really old and rare album being valuable but I never expected some of my recent finds to be worth more than the day I bought them. It's fun to discuss. Have a great week.

Recently a friend gave me his records. About 50. I got really excited when I came across that copy of Kiss. I had a later repress of it. Spine was a bit broken but not that bad. Wax was VG+. Plays super nice 👍🏻

That is great. An early copy of that Kiss album is nearly impossible to find in good condition. The first copies weren't big sellers for the band. You have a very cool friend.😎

The Cranberries - Something Else, is a piece of art, it's their classic singles recorded with the Irish Chamber Orchestra. Their 3rd album To The Faithful Departed is impossible to find in vinyl, it appears sometimes on Ebay at around $330. Since Dolores O'Riordan had died, the prices of their other vinyl albums start to increase sharply.

    • @MelindaMurphy
      @MelindaMurphy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

I agree about Something Else. I was expecting the greatest hits when I bought it so I was surprised when I played it because it wasn't what I expected. Now I appreciate the different versions of these wonderful songs and Dolores was flawless. Take care.

OMG, I had TWO of those Cranberries “..Faithful Departed” LPs, and sold one to a record store for like $10 back around 2000.

That “still sealed” concept is artificial inflation of the price.
It was an “import” pressing and they did not COME SEALED. 😆
The only ones that were sealed were done by the record store or the US distributor.
I know. I was there buying them in 1995-1997! 😉

I don't get many records from record stores, but have been focusing on 45s because my record store has $1 45 bins. They had 7" picture discs. Love those. Some don't. But for $1.... Buy what you like.

I personally love 45's and 7" picture discs are really cool. You can't beat the price and I love having a copy of a song I really love. I do listen to my 45's often. It's cool to hear from someone who appreciates them too. Take care.
