    Why does everyone want fingerprint scanners on the back? It's much better on the front, so you can unlock your phone while it's laying on a table without having to pick it up every single time. As for the notification problems, I know what you mean, I can assure you all Xiaomi phones have the same issues and it requires a whole lot of digging trough optimization settings to start getting them.

    • @joshrobinson2589
      @joshrobinson2589 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      The SektorZ personal preference really. I prefer it on the back as I'm on my feet all day and pulling the phone put of my pocket lands my finger right on the back sensor where I want it. Well at least on the Nexus 6P. The Galaxy S8+ has the worst rear fingerprint position, I have to reach for it. Heck why not put one on the front and the back!

    • @moriellymoproblems7842
      @moriellymoproblems7842 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Rear fingerprint scanner is way better, since your phone will usually not be on a table unless it's charging. It's easy to access when it's in your pocket or just holding it.

    • @mm2324
      @mm2324 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree I never have one finger on the back and probably couldn't reach it even if I wanted to.

    • @karpkarpkarp5
      @karpkarpkarp5 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      What about if you're holding the phone, you have to go all the way down to reach it making it easier to fell off your hand because of the center of gravity.

      @mauriciozaragoza3371 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@karpkarpkarp5 i have big hands so that's no problem to me, but when you leave it on a table you will still have to pick pick it up

      Well, the good news is that they Essential is coming back strong with Essential 2 and they are already working hard on better image image processing and all. As long as they keep innovating and price it right, i have a feeling that Essential can become a company that everyone cares about. Maybe we can also see some new mods for the device and an overall consistent performance.

    P20 Pro is the first Huawei flagship I'm considering to skip since I started buying every single phones from P and Mate series in 2014. Yes, its triple camera setup is simply amazing, but as a whole I don't really see any significant improvement from Mate 10 which I'm using right now. The battery life is the same, the display is the same (actually P20 series is worse resolution wise) the SoC+RAM+storage configuration is similar though Mate 10 has MicroSD card support, and the speakers is more or less the same but I would lose the headphone jack. I don't really want to drop extra $1000 for a device which seems to be almost identical as my current phone just to get better *still* camera (No OIS means you will actually get shakier 4K footage from newer P20 Pro than from Mate 10, which is absolutely crazy). It is good that Huawei keeps innovating in camera technologies, but I honestly expected more from this phone.
    I guess I'll just wait for Mate 20 to come out at the end of the year, which will hopefully bring improved cameras and 4K video stabilisation, next-gen 7nm chipset with better NPU, better battery life, features, display and more.

  • @kornikof9867
    @kornikof9867 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    yes 4k stabilization is bad.. but I'm sure huawei is listening and will enable it like one plus did with 5t
    I returned a Samsung s9 plus due to battery life (sd845 us) that with low/medium usage it give me less then 4hrs of screen on time... had a huawei mate 9 and it was a great phone in general and never rushed to charge the phone like the s9..
    the 2 huawei p20 are very good phones and they are worth to buy... good video. there is nit a perfect phone yet on the market, they always got have something that with the time will make you switch to a better or different one... it's called "business"!

    I recently just own the p20, well, as you said, the notification need a lot more improvement. I use steam on my pc a lot and there's a steam code links to my p20. Every single time i try to log in to my pc i have to enter the code that generated by the phone. So, here's what bother me, in my old iPhone, the code will automatically appear on the screen or the notification centre but when i switched to p20, the code just don't appear at all, I have to open the entire app to get my steam code which comes a bit inconvenience. All the notifications setting for steam are turned on but still i receive nothing. They really need to work out on this bug

    I find it's laggy compared to Pixel 2, but the screen in my book beats the s9+ and the iPhone x as they both have iffy red/pink issues around the edge. The P20 pro screen is uniform, no redness and bright. Camera is incredible apart from the selfie cam. SOT is around 8 to 10 hours, amazing.
    Great review though aside from those points.

    You didn't mentioned that the night shots of the P20 Pro beats easily the iPhone, any iPhone. It combines 4 pixels into one big pixel, allowing it to capture more light. It even beats the S9+... The variable aperture couldn't help, winner in low light, P20 Pro.

    This sounds amazing, I was sold on them in the store at Vodafone, but they were all reserved for orders so my order wouldn't go through, they use them for their personal store mobiles, looked great, but alas due to that I took the option of the sony Xperia XA2, and believe me it's poor, has it's good points but it's so difficult to use and the snooze on the alarm doesn't work, and silent mode is more awkward as it's built in to the do not disturb feature, very sensitive at times and the proximity sensor doesn't work all the time, great sound etc although not noise cancelling headphones either, but yes, the 4k HD feature is also terrible, bit early for 4K HD on Phones IMO but...these Huwawai' look amazing, gonna try and convince my wife to swap her IPhone 7 for one instead of the really expensive X she want's instead...thanks for the review you've convinced me just like others, that I should have waited for them to deliver me one, My S6 was perfect compared to the Sony...patience is a virtue friends. 🤦‍♂️

    Since the p20 night mode uses long exposure
    And since the s9 takes better low light shots in straight up auto mode
    I think a 1 or 2 second exposure will do the s9 justice against night mode
    Besides that's not that too long of an exposure (1 sec) so shake wouldn't really matter
    I shot a long exposure on the s9 in one of Samsung's low light demos and it didn't look so bad
    So in the end, a 1 or 2 sec exposure will be enough to get to the night mode or even beat it because of the F1.5 aperatur

      Abdurrahman Alchoughri the bigger sensor on p20 pro phones would give them a bigger aperture compared to the S9+ , the f1.8 on a 1/1.7" sensor is bigger(P20 Pro) vs f1.5 on a 1/2.55" sensor(S9+).

      P20's Night Mode isn't exactly a single long exposure, but rather HDR using dedicated NPU in Kirin 970 for real time image aligning. If you set the shutter speed to 1 or 2 seconds and try to shoot it in handheld on S9, what you will get is a complete mess (That's why S9 won't select shutter speed slower than 1/4s in Auto). Also the dynamic range with Night Mode is most likely going to be better than S9's photos using any mode, so...

      even auto mode by P20 pro in low light is better than s9. and your last sentence is actuaally very naive....although s9 is overall better, but it's higher price and in some aspects P20pro is obviously better.

      Except the S9 can't do handheld long exposure, boohoo so sad S9's still worse deal with it not to mention the S9 cameras are worse even in auto mode, worse either way.

      "I shot a 4 sec exposure on the s9 in one of Samsung's low light demos and it didn't look so bad" ------ so you are either 1. a tripod or 2. holding very low expectation of image quality.

    It is not a problem of orio or the phone, it is the issue of apps. They need to upgrade to match the Orio.

    Even if they were the same price i would still pick the p20 pro for it's more compact size. Had a mate 10 pro and it was simply too big. Kept nearly falling out my pocket. P20 is much more manageable. Just about acceptable in terms of size though 5.5 inches would be nicer still. In low light this is my best camera. I compared it to my proper cameras hand held and it won hands down. In good light it isn't far behind. Brilliant considering lens size. Battery is superb. Notification I had to enable some apps for manual battery management and fixed it. Vibration motor a bit week and call quality slightly muffled. Reception great. Overall great value at 400
