Very good idea! Well thought out design and nicely done. I might give it a couple of rattle can coats of clear water base poly to seal it from moisture, stains and embedded metal filings.
Good work, I just bought the same vice from harbor freight today. It’s much heavier than my older cheaper 5 inch vice. The round nose on fold down bench is really smart design, I bet that has been working great for you.
