"Then it's not about dreams fading when we wake up. It's about forgetting our real purpose when we fall asleep... it's basically a story about to people who, on occasion, briefly imagine happiness, only for it to slip away again the busyness of everyday life. Who deep down know what would truly fulfill them, yet are afraid to act on it, afraid to make themselves vulnerable." Wow, this is so profound and relatable. I've always had this feeling of something missing in my life and I'm still trying to understand myself what it is.

the key mistake people have is pursuing happiness. you cant seek it, you need to seek a healthy and fulfilling life, and focus on the happiness when it ebbs and flows. if we teach people to try to be happy all the time, of course they will feel like there is something wrong with them. thats just not how happiness works. we adapt - for better or worse - to any situation. happiness is the dessert, not the whole meal.

I think I know where you're coming from. I wasn't even able to touch that feeling, not to say give it a name, but. Once I travelled to a country I always longed to visit, this feeling faded and I was never so calm, and in touch with my own before. Well, let's say it took me 30 years to find the place I truly belong, and was always searching for without even being aware of it. ^-^

"Dreams fade when we wake up" really hits home for me. It's about living in the moment. The past is the dream and it fades as it passes us by, so you really need to stop worrying about the future or living in the past and just savour the here and now. I really want to watch this now!

I share your feelings. After two divorces and now on my third marriage, you cease to believe in soul mates. Indeed, the idea seems rediculously childish now. Rather, you 'settle' for someone who seems genuine and loving. And that has to be enough. You might think that an odd way to view marriage. But after my first marriage ended due to adultery and the second due to physical and emotional abuse, you 'settle' for this...
People are so much a disappointment, especially my family who I don't talk to any more. Yet people are the only real source of happiness. A Catch 22 that is unavoidable.

This movie was so deeply moving when I first saw it. It still remains the first movie that I actually cried while watching. Also, the composition of these videos, the serenity of them, especially in talking about a movie that moved me so deeply, nearly brought me to tears again. I don't know what it is. Is it remembering that time long ago that I watched this movie? Nostalgia? Or is it just the raw beauty of the movie itself?

I think it awakens a sense of meaning deep within the human subconscious. I believe we all remember (on a subconscious level) everything we've seen and/or experienced. When we happen upon something that sparks a distant memory, whether it be from a dream or just a passing joy, our spirit/mind weeps for the forgotten moment

I think the reason i love this movie so much is because i can feel what they feel. Waking up just longing for something. The feeling that someone is out there and i could walk past them every day. Its like there's a big chunk of your body missing. like half of your soul is somewhere else. Then it hits me that ill probably never get to meet that person. And i feel like that Sadness is something most people around my age feel. Or maybe we just want to be loved. Its like a time bomb, counting down to the happiest moments of your life. But it can easily be defused.

My 2 favourites movies are Interstellar and your name, but I never really new why... Now I realise that these movies are connected. Both movies are about time and love. Both give the message that love transcends time and beat death. Both uses strings as a way to communicate through time. The struggle between traditions and modernity is important in both movies and finally the theme of the catastrophy is also present in both stories.

Thank you for this review. What a profound, heartfelt, intelligent review. And the way you presented it - your voice, the music, the structure. No funny quips because your topic doesn't need any. No memes to ruin the atmosphere. When I see a review or recap of a show I'm interested in, I listen for maybe a couple of minutes then adjust the speed to 1.5 or 1.75 and turn on subtitles. I never did that with this because this review is an experience in itself. I may be 4 years late into this video but I'm excited to browse through your catalog.

For me, one of the greatest movies of all time. Actually traveled to Tokyo last year to find the stairwell at the end. Found other pilgrims like myself standing there, some taking pictures, while a couple tried to recapture that final scene. Everyone kept smiling knowingly at each other, just as the April skies started to softly rain. Will remain one of my favorite moments.

Damn, this got me emotional. Having migrated in a different country, I have left all of my fullfiling relationships back home. I feel so empty here, all my relationships are superficial, most people are cold, the weather is cold. It is sickening that people have to exchange their relationships for better living conditions, it's an oxymoron. Now, after 2.5 years abroad I can also feel the physical effects of loniless and it really hurts. I feel trapped between loniless coupled with good money and working conditions, and 6-7 day-long work week, 8-10 hours a day for money which will barely cover my life expenses coupled with people I can call my own. The prospect of choosing is paralyzing and here I am unable to make a real choice... Thanks for the video! Great job as always!

I started treating the people around me and the people I was close too better. Your Name and Mob Psycho 100 inspired me to become a better person. I bought and watched the film just in time to watch this. The film was worth it. I spent a month in Japan with my ex wife. It's an odd place, where the modern and the ancient exist side by side. Ancient shrines in deep suburbia. It's a very ordered place. We got to see things people/tourists normally don't. Live motorway service stations, a student cafe deep in the woods, and a volcanic mountain where I was the only gaijin. They make black eggs in volcanic pools and vents.

Going through your videos, they don't fit the category of binge-videos, where you spend an entire afternoon just going through your entire catalogue of analysis. That's not a bad thing though. Quite the opposite. Maybe it's because they're so thoughtfully crafted that you need the right time of day to experience the little details of philosophy and its messages as a whole. They're like those great movies you stumble upon every now; wise, impactful, and you may find your in tears by the end. This video is proof of that.

They are over 7 billion people on this planet, and I understand how it's hard to find a connection with someone sometimes even with those numbers.. I recently found someone I deeply connected with but she lives in spain.. We talk everyday and grown a connection with each other.. But I know we can never be together with that sort of circumstances, so I let her go

a little red thread, it was shown to me while this movie came out, the thread may have not been actually that strong
but the bond is precious ..at least to the one who writes this.
many red strings have been placed in my fingers and im glad the ones strong enough have kept wrapped around
i hope that every one i have loved and cared for sees that little red string from time to time, and remember that i too think of them with ...love i think
even though im not that great at staying in touch.

You have no idea how long it took me to be able to watch this. Found an English dubbed version, then realized it was only 1/2 of the movie! Finally had to settle for watching some random guy's reaction video, where I just read the captions on a teeny corner of the screen to see how this story finally ended up.
And aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaall of this, just so I can now finally sit down to watch your video on it. Is that dedication or what?
