  • My 100 series Toyota Landcruiser steering wheel was shaking while braking. Turns out the nuts on the front axle were loose! Yikes. Replace your lock washer when doing the brakes.

I'm 8 seconds into the video. My initial guess is wheel hub assembly/bearing....going to finish up and see how close I was...I heard you say rotor, so now wondering if it was stuck caliper causing warped rotor. Will edit after viewing rest.
EDIT: Yep, was totally wrong. Have never worked on a Landcruiser. That's wild how either the guy didn't lock it down or it came undone. And gasket issue! I would have been upset if I got that type of work returned to me after paying. Then again, I pretty much refuse to let anyone else work on my vehicles. Only got 286k miles on current vehicle backing that decision and have had to do a good bit of work, but worth it and love how far I've come. Messed up plenty, but learned a lesson each time. After 20 years of that, it comes in handy. Thanks for sharing!

Good guess! On a normal vehicle you'd be right. These are really overdone and I'm not sure there's a benefit to it. Normal caliper setups are much easier to service. However Toyota wants the wheel bearings greased every 30k. I guess that's how you make them super reliable.

@@snaph I bought a 1992 Celica years ago for my girlfriend. Had to replace all sorts of parts on it. Rebuilt the front end, set timing...all sorts of other stuff. Then the front two wheel bearings went out. I thought no, problem, can fix. Found you needed something special to press them in. I still wonder to this day if that was a job I could have done myself. I think I paid $300 per tire. Had car driving good, just had to find one oil leak and that was it. Told her to check the oil before driving. She never did. Ended up burning the engine up. Fixable, but I was done by that point. We are no longer together!
